Hi there

we are so excited to have a Disney vacation booked for the end of August, and we were going to attempt driving, however, our usually reliable car is starting to give us problems and Im really hoping to fly. Does anybody know of any sales/discount codes or anything that would save us money? I'm trying to do this the cheapest way I can as money is tight for us right now. We have flown out of Buffalo and Detroit and both are great. Any suggestions? I would so appreciate your help! Thanks in advance.

Pittsburgh and Rochester are other options. We live in Oakville though and Pittsburgh is just over 4 hrs for us. Almost the same as going to Detroit. Peace Bridge is a much quicker crossing I find. What are your dates of travel?

Oh thank you so much webworm! Thats the kind of advice I was looking for. Ive never looked into Pittsburgh or Rochester. We're from Burlington so we're close to you :) The dates I would like are August 28th-September 2nd although I could come in a day or two earlier. Thank you again :)

Be prepared...the fares are a fair bit higher this year than usual. We are traveling Aug 23-Sept.3 and I started in May watching the fares. The best prices are probably now gone. Yearly, we visit WDW at the end of August and the lowest fares are always during the last 2 weeks of June.

That said the best fares have been from Detroit. If my DH had been willing to drive there we could have had non stop, roundtrip for $145 per ticket.

We have also driven down to FL a several times(we're in Oakville) and depending on what you drive and how you drive it can cost you $600-$700. So when you factor costs think of that as a base for transportation....it makes the extra on airfare not so bad. The last time gas prices were comparable to what they are right now our RT drive cost $725 and that was with only a hotel going south....we drove straight through coming home....and we packed food.

Looks like AirTran is your best option out of Pittsburgh since they have several nonstop flights for $87.00 one way or $195.40 rt inc taxes. Pittsburgh is a beautiful airport as well. We have flown AirTran and did not pay for seat fees or checked baggage. We took carry on luggage and reserved seats together 24hrs prior to departure online. If you catch an early morning flight you could book a hotel though Priceline. Checkout betterbidding first for winning bids so you don't overbid. We got the 3* Marriott Courtyard Pittsburgh Airport for like $45.00 and we left our minivan at the hotel for free for 10days while in Florida. They have a free shuttle to the airport. I would start bidding at $40.00 since I see several recent winning bids for the Courtyard for like $42.00.

We are flying out of Detroit in August with Spirit and our fare was $135 return/taxes in. It will sure beat driving! We flew with them 3 years ago and had a great experience.

WOW! Thanks so vey much webworm for looking into that for me, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that!! You are absolutely amazing!

Thank you Dawn-Marie for the advice regarding Spirit airlines, I've been wondering fhow they were to fly with so I truly appreciate your input. I signed up for their emails, hoping for a big sale in the next little while.

Dancin Disney style, looks like we will be there at the same time! Thanks for letting me know how much it cost to drive! It looks like it's around the same as flying so thank you because I had no idea what it would cost in gas etc. After hearing that, I think we will definitely fly.

You guys are the best. :worship: :) Oh I am soooo excited!!

Don't forget to factor in the extra gas and possibly a hotel stay if you opt to go to Detroit, Pittsburgh or Rochester. When I was watching fares in May/June those extra costs ended up really holding me back...as well as my DH not wanting to drive any further than BUF.

we like to fly out of buffalo cause we are coming from toronto it is just easier to cross th bridge and be at the airport rather than drive the extra 4 hous to pits

Air Tran is still the best pricing I can see out of Detroit, I"m going in October though, maybe that'll factor in on pricing, I booked my flights wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy back in like April likely, I hate the waiting game and prefer to be organized I'm a control freak :) I ended up paying 604 tax in, reserved seats for 3 of us, which I think is great.

Direct Air from Niagara Falls NY to Orlando/Lakeland $370. return all in for the end of August.

They have some cheap $99 one way flights during different times of the year.

We are flying out of Buffalo beginning of September - live in Toronto. Flying Jet Blue and paying $188.00 - taxes in, non stop, return. I have had these booked for a while now and the fares have probably gone up. We usually fly Southwest however their fares were higher this year than Jet Blue so we will give this a try.

Good Luck.
