Anyone here age 50+ every REGRETTED parasailing?

I know that's probably a dumb question.

It briefly crossed my mind to do it on our next cruise. My husband and daughter have told me how WONDERFUL it is, but they also told me I'd like Tower of Terror and Splash Mountain.:mad: (No, I didn't like Splash Mountain, too terrified of drops.)

I guess, I probably would have loved doing para-sailing as a child, (as well as ToT and Splash Mountain) but am going back and forth about the para-sailing.

Thanks!:)

Ima gonna shoot reeeeel straight with you here....

I'm bothered by heights; however, there's a big difference between going up in a structure and going up on a parachute. I'm way more scared of structures than parachutes.

There's some comfort in the fact that you're out over this wide expanse of water and if you fall, Mythbusters has already shown that it's not exactly like hitting concrete. (ha)

It's a very free feeling... and you lose perspective on your height very quickly. It's like an elevator with no stops....

Once you're up, it's very calm and peaceful, in my view.

Now, the other thing you have to know is that you're going to be in a harness. And because you're 50+ (I'm not, but I'm not far off either) you may have things on your body that don't appreciate being in a harness. As such, it is possible that you will get a harness wedgie that will rival anything you ever dreamed of or that you will get a harness crimp somewhere you'd rather not be crimped.

And this too, shall pass.

Just don't say no one warned you.

I LOVED it! :thumbsup2 I'm uncomfortable with heights in certain circumstances. A railing overlooking a five story atrium still has my grip marks in it!

The ascent and decent are so smooth there is NO sensation of falling and it is so peaceful up there. Pretty much the only thing you hear is the wind and the creaking of the harness (don't panic on that!).

You know what? I may just have to do this again in November!

.

I just turned 50 this month & I'm not sure what that has to do with it? I still parasail, ride jet skis, snow ski, ride roller coasters & water rides... Was I supposed to stop at 50??

(I hope not because I just started learning to ski at 45.....)

I'm 67 and have parasailed at CC twice now. I am deathly afraid of heights, but flying in a plane was never a big issue for me because I was around them all my Air Firce career. I truly enjoyed it both times, and it was pretty windy the second time in June (see picture below - i was flying beside the tow boat!). My trick is I have a waterproof camera I take with me so I can busy my mind with something besides dying:rotfl:.

Btw - the first time I went, I noticed the harness (which was pretty new) had a warning label that said "this is a dangerous sport and you could die". I found it more humorous than scary. Wish I'd gotten a picture of that!

It's really fun, and a great way to see the whole island from the air. I've been up 4 times since 2004 and am 60 yr old...take a waterproof camera along

OMG I almost wet myself - yes, I'm near 50 too and this is one of my concerns as well. :rotfl::rotfl:

Go on do it..you will live to regret otherwise. I too HATE drops and will not do Splash Mountain (I too have stood on that bridge by that drop and thought NO WAY) and there is not a hope of getting me on Tower of Terror, but I am an ex sky diver (too expensive to continue, oh and three people died)!!!! Its just a totally different feeling...you will love para-sailing and your bits do recover from being in the harness...

Good for you. I'm one, however, who's gotten fearful as I've gotten older. If I'd just worded 'has anyone regretted parasailing?' there would have been more responses from the 20-30 something crowd, who like me, WEREN'T afraid when they were younger.:

It doesn't mean that I've stopped having fun doing OTHER things.

I'm glad to see this thread! I can't look over a railing, either, but I am very curious about the view from up there! :thumbsup2

Love the photo!!

I could argue that I have lived to past age 50 by not parasailing, parachuting, skiing, snowboarding or riding a motorcycle.

Well, I have tried skiing (couldn't do it - the chair lifts are too high), so no snowboarding either; I have no intention of parachuting by leaving a perfectly good airplane; but I have had a motorcycle and have parasailed twice.

I am reminded of a management session I had once where they assess our personalities:

  • Type A's are outrun everyone else and are likely to rule for at least a little while;
  • Type B's will rule the world because they will outlast the Type A's;
  • Type C's will keep everything running by taking their time to work the details day in and day out (and day in and day out...);
  • Type D's have both good news and bad news: The good news is that they will live forever; the bad news is it will feel like it.
This from a guy is terrified of ski lifts, areal trams, ladders, roofs and high bridges.

It's your vacation. Enjoy yourself and maybe challenge yourself. If it sounds interesting, go do it. It really is a lot of fun. But don't give yourself a coronary by fretting over it.

That's how I celebrated turning 50 at CC. Now I'm a little afraid of water since my swim skills are not the best. I was more worry about my Pooh shaped body being able to lift out of the boat. :lmao: Your glide up and glide back in the boat. It's not like a drop on a coaster. Just ask them not to dip you in the water if you don't think you would like that part, but it was fun. Anyway, I've done it twice now.

Have a great time. I hope you try this.:thumbsup2

Do it do it do it. I'm slightly over 50, and it was definitely a highlight of my June 21 cruise. It is amazing how slowly you ascend and descend, and even more amazing how peacefull it is when you are up in the air. My son and I saw lots of fish in the water and a ray, which was cool. You honestly feel like you're floating, not rising and falling. You will NOT be disappointed.

How easy do they make it to get in and out of the harness? Can 2 people go at once? My husband and DD (19) want to do it this August at CC, but my DD has mild CP and is often awkward in her movements. She loves all the rides at the parks - ToT, RR, etc. - but I guess I have concerns about her actually getting in and out of the harness. Is it pretty easy?

Parasailing at CC was what I did for my 50th birthday :banana::banana::banana:

Loved every minute once we were air born. The guy on the boat reassured me many times that it was not in his best interest to let anything happen to me!!
That convinced me. Dh and I got to ride tandem. That was fun !!
