I think I may know the answer to this but thought it wise to come here to confirm. Can you take a travel steamer or travel iron on board the ship? I think I remember seeing that irons are not allowed but does that include the small portable steamers? I'm trying to be lazy and not iron ALL the clothes for the 4 of us before we leave! TIA!

Irons are a fire hazard and will be confiscated if you take them onboard. I do not remember anyone posting experiences with the steamers.

Thank you! I would not want to be the one who started a fire on Disney's new ship because I wanted an extra crease in my pants. :lmao:

I'm bringing Downy wrinkle release-you'll already have my stateroom number for the FE exchange so feel free to come down and use it lol.

There are irons and steamers in the laundry rooms on the Dream....at least in the one on Deck 2.

Here is the list of prohibited items, as listed at the DCL site:

Question
What items are not permitted on board?
Answer
In order to maintain a safe and secure environment for our Guests and crew, the following are examples of items that Guests are not allowed to bring on board. These and other similar items will be confiscated upon being found.

Weapons and firearms (including ammunition, knives—including dive knives—swords, daggers or any other types of weapons) are not allowed onboard under any circumstances
Realistic replicas of firearms and weapons
Highly flammable liquids and combustible substances
Non prescribed controlled substances, illegal drugs, medically prescribed and synthetic marijuana
Power Tools and Tool boxes (except those tools of the trade utilized by vendors providing services)
Sporting equipment (i.e., baseball and cricket bats, hockey and lacrosse sticks, pool cues, ski poles, fishing gear and archery equipment.)
SCUBA equipment (i.e., tanks, spears guns /slings, dive knives, pry bar, and underwater scooter)
Kites, balloons, surfboards, wave boards, inflatable floats/pools (including pool noodles), and wagons
Bicycles, Segways, skateboards, inline & roller skates, any footwear with wheels, (i.e. Heely's type shoes)
Electrical appliances such as rice cookers, hot plates, coffee makers, electric irons, bottle sterilizer and bottle warmers, etc. Please note: A limited number of approved bottle warmers and bottle sterilizers are available upon request through Guest Services. Also all ships offer laundry facilities with irons and ironing boards. Valet laundry service is also available for a nominal fee.
Candles & Incense
DVD, VCR, or Blu ray players or, Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo Wii gaming systems are not allowed because of compatibility issues with the stateroom TVs
Musical instruments
Large Ice Coolers (Please note: small, personal-sized coolers, no larger than 12" x 12" x 12" brought onboard for the purpose of housing medications are permitted as carry-on luggage.)
Homemade, pre-cooked or other perishable food items plus any open snack containers
Metal detectors are not allowed on the ship or on Castaway Cay, as any object found using thesedevices would need to be returned to the owner or donated to charity
Personal fireworks or pyrotechnics
Seasonal and celebratory lighting strings
Liquid oxygen
The following items are permitted but with the following restrictions:

Walkie-talkies and two-way radios (e.g., Motorola, JVC). Please be aware that the amount of steel in the ship's infrastructure may cause some "dead zones" and the radios may not transmit in these areas.
A small portable fan. However, please contact Guest Services to have the Chief Electrician approve the use of your particular appliance in the stateroom.
Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices (PFDs) and flotation sewn into the bathing suit for safety. However, recreational floating devices such as floats, rafts and fun noodles cannot be brought on board and are not permitted in the pools or on Castaway Cay.
Golf clubs, as long as they are stored in your stateroom.

I bolded the the sentence as that may mean steamers as well...but it is not very clear. I would call DCL and ask them.

Thanks! But I beat you to it! I picked up some Downy Wrinkle Release based on what I read on another thread. Does it really work that well? I just picked it up today but haven't used it yet.

Thanks for the info! I think you are right that it is to include steamers.

IDK. I've used it before and it worked pretty well. It makes your clothes kind of damp, so do it at least about a half hour before you want to wear the clothes.

Cool beans! I will probably do it the night before so we will be ready to go for the next day. I just don't want everyone pointing at us and saying, "Disney Cruise Line welcomes The Wrinkley Family!" :lmao:

Of course I'm the only one that's concerned about this!

Plus, if you have something that the Downey won't handle, you can send it out to be pressed. The price is 1/2 of what that article of clothing would cost to be laundered, so not too bad. Depending on how long our stuff has been crammed in our bags, sometimes I pull out a few of our nicer items and send them out the first day so I don't have to worry about getting into the laundry room to press them out a bit.

We had a steamer from the land leg of trip , had it set on the vanity evry day and used it every day. I had it out next to the curling iron and never gave it a thought. I even had several "higher ups" in the room last trip because we were getting some kind of exhaust fumes into the room and they set up an air purifier right next to it on the vanity as well.

Good idea. I just figured it would be super expensive so I never thought about doing something like that. Good to know. :thumbsup2

I feel like that should be our getting onboard name lo!!

FYI: Got this message from DCL regarding this. Confirmed what everyone was saying,

Due to safety concerns, steamers are not permitted onboard.
Complimentary irons are located in the laundry facilities onboard and
are not permitted in the stateroom. The laundry facilities are located:

* Deck 2 - port side forward, opposite stateroom 2002
* Deck 5 - port side aft, opposite stateroom 5190
* Deck 6 - starboard side forward, opposite stateroom 6508
* Deck 7 - port side forward, opposite stateroom 7014
* Deck 8 - port side aft, opposite stateroom 8143
* Deck 9 - starboard side forward, opposite stateroom 9500
* Deck 10 - port side midship, opposite stateroom 10572

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you!

Have a Magical Day!

Uh oh...I brought a steamer onboard last year and no one ever said anything. :guilty: Mine is a small travel steamer; I think I got it at Target for about $30. IMO steamers are safer than curling irons or hot rollers, but if they say no then of course I wouldn't bring it again.

Definitely have your clothes pressed for you...the laundry rooms are a mob scene, filled with people who have never ironed before taking ten minutes to iron one shirt. :) It's definitely worth the money to not have to stress out like that! I would pack all of my nice clothes separately and send them off as soon as you can...then just relax. :)

Here is a pic of the laundry room on Deck 2 of the Dream.....you can see the head of the steamer (one of those professional size ones on wheels).

And ironing board. I have heard that the laundry rooms on the other decks are larger than the one on Deck 2. We were in cabin 2004 which right across from the "launderette" and found it very convenient.

MJ, From the photos, it looks like there two washers and four dryers in the Deck 2 laundry room. Is that the correct number?

Just out of curiousity, how many pieces did you send out and how much did it cost?

Aack - I have no idea how much we paid! I know it paled in comparison to our bar bill......

But, I can tell you that the Dry Cleaning pricelist is posted on this board on the DIS DCL FAQ Sticky - and the pressing cost is 50% of the prices listed there.

Sorry not to be of more help!
