it dawns on me (duh) that we'll be in one of the fashion capitals of the world ..

so this is what i'm looking for....

clothes for a rock performer....
it can be dresses, tops, jeans, whatever...(for a woman)...
but really hot, flashy....what looks good on stage (not necessarily what she would walk around in day to day, but what she really has to wear on stage)...

we can find some here, but it's more difficult to find and not much variety.....

my guess would be to head for soho or the village, but that's just a guess and we don't have the time to just wander around manhattan without a plan...
we're very good at buying quickly if we're in the right place....but knowing where to shop is the trick......

does anyone know stores that might have what we're looking for?

I would walk down Canal Street and then go to St. Marks (East Village). I don't know any shop names off hand, but that is where those kind of vintage/trendy shops are. You can also get a great knockoff bag on Canal!

wow - canal street? new york sure has changed since we lived there!!!!!
i would never have guessed that area!!

i'll see if i can research it online....
we're only there for a day - so we have to be super efficient!!
kind of stupid i didn't think of this before

been reading the shopping section of all the online guides i could find - definitely looks like soho and the village (both east and west) are where we should go..

DSIL wants to see music stores (meaning musical instruments), but i have a feeling he's going to be disappointed....
i would think the huge warehouse places, if there are any in the new york area, are outside of manhattan...

he's a drummer and whenever i'm in the states i manage to get some really hard to come by items for him - but that's by catalogue...he has visions of some vast emporium....i can't imagine something like that existing inside manhattan....

i know there's a guitar center near union square, but i doubt it's what he's imagining...

i wonder what other musical instrument stores there are in manhattan besides guitar center..

my list of stores (names, addresses, phone numbers, hours) is getting longer and longer..

i just remembered to add Apple to the list, so i looked up the apple stores in NYC...
is this true? it shows the apple store on 5th avenue as being open 24/7/365!!  really??? that's insane!!

You never know when you're going to need a Mac. Or an iPhone. Or an iPad....

The store is open, but I understand they are replacing the all glass cube that is its entrance right now so it won't be quite as pretty an experience.

they're taking the cube away? it looks beautiful in the pictures i've seen..

so you can come 24/7 but do they actually have an ipad to sell you? or can they just put you on the waiting list at 3 in the morning?

They aren't taking the cube away, just replacing/refurbishing it.

thanks! i was trying to remember who i spoke with last september..

i see there's a drum store on 48th st.

i bet DSIL will love it!!

hey, it's only a block from where we're staying!!

thanks!!!!!!!!!! :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

That whole block of W. 48th roughly between Broadway and Sixth Ave is a music store district. It goes way back to when songwriters and musicians used to pound the pavement in that area trying to get work or sell their songs. The Brill Building which was the headquarters of all music publishing companies still stands in Times Square.

The area may not be as vital as it once was, but you'll still find a row of stores that sell musical instruments.

I will start by saying it has been 6 years since we moved to Florida - but I think Bleecker Street or St Marks Place are good places to go looking for rocker type clothing.
