Another reason to stay out of the lakes

A woman who says she was injured on Walt Disney World property has now filed a lawsuit. Barbara Wormald and her husband were riding in a small motor boat, when they were hit by a ferry. The court paperwork says Disney never should have let the husband operate the boat because he was inexperienced. Wormald is suing for negligence.

Well, that one kid got 50K for hot cheese, just imagine how much this family stands to make.

We took out a boat last time we were at WDW, and we were instructed to stay FAR AWAY from the Friendship Boats (I'm assuming that's what caused the accident.)

Also, I think we had to sign a lot of papers saying we were responsible for ourselves.

After seeing the HBO documentary "Hot Coffee," I am not so sure that all these law suits are frivolous.

Those boats they rent at the marinas are pretty slow and easy to operate and the Ferry captains are professionals and well trained.

If they were over by the MK they give you specific directions to get thru the channel that the ferry's use quickly. The ferry's are huge how could they not see it coming from a distance

I remember this when it first happened and was reported on- they were over by Saratoga Springs and hubby turned the boat directly into the path of the ferry which was HIS fault - the ferry boat driver could not avoid this accident. Disney did nothing wrong - if the guy did not know how to drive a boat he should not of attempted it and SHE should not of gotten in the boat knowing he had no experience....geez folks blaming others for their ignorance and seeing $$ signs make me sick.

Well, call me jaded, but if the husband turned directly into the path of the ferry, makes me wonder if it was an accidentally-on-purpose whoops. Lots of people have been known to deliberately get into accidents in order to be able to sue... It's a very profitable racket.

I just watched that! Very interesting documentary that makes me think twice before crying "frivolous" but most of these lawsuits sound pretty ridiculous when we don't get much info.

The McD's Coffee lawsuit was valid but it made great headlines. It is a great example of the stupidity of the press and should be a lesson for anybody listening or watching the press for "information."

A great many people are just daft. I remember as a little kid riding in a boat on the St. Johns river. We were returning from one of the springs and there was a barge going down the river. There was another couple of boats that were zooming in front of the barge and then away from the barge. They were getting very close. One of the people lost there ball cap which right under the barge.

A barge takes a long time to stop if the tug captain had even seen the boat in the first place. If the boats zooming in front of the barge had an engine failure everyone on the boat would have died. They were so close to the barge they only had a 5-10 seconds before the barge ran them over. By the time they figured they had a problem they would have been dead.

I could not have been more the four or five when I saw this happen.

It would not surprise me at all if the man was playing around in the boat and was trying to scare the wife. You just cannot miss seeing the ferries or even the smaller bus boats. In any case he was the operator of the boat and it was his responsibility not WDW.

I would be shocked if Disney does NOT have a boating accident report stating what happened. I would suspect they had at least a few witnesses. I hope Disney does not settle this out of court....

My understanding of the McDonalds case was that the woman had to have multiple plastic surgeries on her undercarriage. Totally worth $5M.

It takes more skill to drive a freaking car than to drive one of the watercraft rented at the marina. There should be absolutely no reason they should have been anywhere near the Disney watercraft.

These are people that should be thinned from the herd.
