'Toy Story 4': Tom Hanks Says Pixar Working On Film

Following critical acclaim, an Oscar for Best Animated Feature and a global box office take of $1,063,171,911, "Toy Story 3" was beyond successful. Combine that gold with the film having ended with Woody and the gang getting a new, youthful owner, and a fourth film would seem a no brainer.

And according to Tom Hanks, it's already underway.

When asked by a BBC interviewer whether his new granddaughter would have a fourth "Toy Story" to see, the voice of Woody said, "I think there will be, yeah. I think they're working on it now."

The work on "Toy Story" actually hasn't stopped with the release of the third film; Pixar released a short, "Hawaiian Vacation," ahead of their newest film, "Cars 2," which won the box office this past weekend. They'll release another later this year, rumored to be planned ahead of "The Muppets."

Disney is also introducing another new storyline for the film series' characters, a space adventure featuring Buzz Lightyear and space-suit clad Woody and Rex blasting off to fight the evil Zurg, to be featured in new toys and a digital book.

Pixar also released the teaser trailer for their next film, the Scottish heroine-driven "Brave," on Monday.

The same reason Hollywood made way too many "Planet of the Apes" movies. If it is still profitable, then they will continue cranking them out. So far the story line have been great and the movies fabulous so I really do not see an end too soon. That said, it really would have been nice to end it on a high note.

planet of the apes may not be the best comparison.........the sequels g rossed 18 million and went down with each one to i think around 10 million for the last one.....as far as profit against production budget they did make back 3 to 4 times that amount as they were cheap to make........the new one coming out may be something to keep an eye on.....it is capable of doing 300 to 350 million worldwide.

I am thrilled to hear they are making another Toy Story. My family and I have loved all 3 and ZURG is probably our favorite character even though his part has been small. He was awesome on the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command cartoons.

The new one does look interesting.

My point was not to make a straight on comparison of the movie's quality and success. My point was that so long as there is a buck to be made, they will continue to go back to the same intellectual well.

Originality is rare. That is why remakes rule in Theatre and Film. They figure that if the storyline has a proven track record and/or a built-in audience base they will make a profit. I guess that is the "Business" part of "Show-Business".

One thing I've learned over the last 16 years is that you can completely trust Pixar to put out something worth seeing. If the story's not there, they won't move forward. They shelved "Newt" because they felt it was too similar to the recently released "Rio." That in itself shows integrity. I've never felt like they've exhausted any of their franchises for the sake of another buck. I'd definitely see another Toy Story installment.

I LOVE the Toy Story movies. Some of my favorite movies ever. But the last one ended so well and tied up everything, I wish they'd just leave it alone.

Having said that, I'd see the movie anyway. But I still would rather they leave the series alone.

I love Toy Story but enough is enough. Part 3 wrapped everything up quite nicely so why add more to it? The short before Cars 2 was cute. Keep doing shorts if they want to keep the story going!

BTW, I loved Cars 2. I was more entertained by the sequel than the original.

Wow...I thought they ended TS3 very well....not sure I would like to see it going any further...but we'll see.

I actually haven't seen it either. I was just referring to the critical response. It has a 33% favorable rating of good reviews.

I am with you 317 - I loved how Pixar once said they had no interest in sequels. The wonderful stories could stand on their own without being destroyed. I loved how new characters adventures and stories were told. Mind you TS3 was a good movie - but each addition to the Pixar vault kind of devalues the greatness of the original. Sadly, I know its all about money...
