Baby sitting?

Is this a one-time thing? Or is it going to be a "every day for the whole summer" kind of thing?

Is the childcare occuring at your house, or the sitters house? If at the sitters house, does she have other children there that she is watching as well? Will meals/snacks be provided?

Is the sitter a teen, or an adult?

Where are you located?

For a unskilled 16 year old between 6-8$ per hour (6 would be quite low unless a family friend) for a skilled adult 10+$ per hour babysitting prices have gone up alot from the 1-2$ they were 15 years ago.

This is a hard question because its so regional! My 11 year old gets 10.00 an hour to babysit the 3 year old kid 2 doors down. Are you talking once in awhile or weekly??

In Pittsburgh it would be appropriate to pay another mom with kids of her own $40 for the day.

If it going to be an all-summer thing, it would almost almost always be cheaper & better for everybody to put the kids in Summer camp.

My sis in law is paying $100/week this summer for her 9 & 6 yr. old for daycare at someone's home. The cheapest "daycamp" in our area was $150/week for the 2 kids.

For 40 dollars a day that would only be 200 a week--I don't know of any summer camps around here that are that cheap. My daughter is going to a summer camp at the beach that is from 9:30-2 and it is 260.00 for the week. I used to have her in a camp when she was younger that I could drop her off at 7am and pick her up between 4-6 and it was over 400 a week.

They have a camp here for $150 a week (my tax dollars at work). Grented,n not the greatest. If it's at the sitters house, at least $40 a day, and if it's at the kids' home, double that.

My 16 year old is making $5/hr this summer watching a 6 year old and an 11 year old, for comparison's sake.

I am sorry but that is the rate I made 23+ years ago babysitting and I thought that was a great rate back then. I think your child needs to ask for more money. Even 8 years ago+ I'd pay our babysitter 8-10 an hour for watching 2 boys who would have been 7 and 8 (that was 8 years ago). IF I had 2 sitters (sometimes 2 neighbor boys would watch on weekend nights cause they were good friends and great sitters) I'd pay them BOTH the same amount...the 8-10 an hour.

only problem is in reality... if you have a parent making min wage or even a little over there is no way the can afford to pay that much per hour.

I agree. I just took on a part time job 3 hours a day and MAKE $10/hour. Wouldn't make much sense to pay the babysitter $10/hour now would it. I take my 5 year old to summer daycare for 3.65/hour or a full day for 18.50. The in home daycare down the street charged $4/hour for part time. We rarely go out but did a few weeks ago and paid $5/hour for my 5 and 9 year old. we are small town midwest.
OP around here it would probably be $30-$40/day for 2 kids that age.

I pay $10/hour for a college student to watch my kids that are about the same age as the OP. I'm in central Maryland and am getting a bargain. Even with leaving her money for activities, it work out to be less than summer camp.
