Reprimand and termination

My son is a CP and has received 2 reprimands most of the points were either of being sick(4 pts), for not clocking out (.5+.5) or being late <2 (3 *.5).

He fears terminated and being "black-listed", as an employer I understand the late ~ but a point for being sick even though he brought a doctor's note?

Should he self terminate if he wants to come back? Advice please.

You can take a doctors note but it only cuts back your points. For example if you were sick 2 days it cuts the 2 points back to 1. That's what my manager told me during my CP. How many points does he have since his second reprimand? He should just be on time and not call out no matter what instead of self-terming.

August 21, is his graduation day (he's SA). With summer coming around will they terminate CP with 3 or 4 reprimands?

Being at ESPN, it takes him 85 minutes to get to work.

The doctor's notes didn't result in any reduction.

Regardless of the time of year, the company's standards on Attendance discipline are quite clear. All Disney College Program Participants are only allowed to accumulate three attendance-based reprimands and will have their employment terminated immediately upon the receipt of a fourth.

In the case of DCP Participants, it's very much a maybe thing. It happens a lot of the time, but not always.

Sorry, but it sounds like your kid is one step away from being canned like a tuna, I would quit before I would let them fire me! Just my two euro cents!

The sad thing is that he finally has gotten a livable apt.

He wonders if he can graduate with the Spring group (last graduation is 6/3)

Other than his managers, who can he talk to?

Another question:
How do attendance reprimands or (God forbid) termination effect chances of doing this program or internship in the future?

If he gets terminated from the program, he may not work for ANY Disney company at ANY time for the rest of his life. He will not be eligable for another program. I'm not sure about self termination, but I do believe it is the same.

He needs to be more careful with his points, because although he is one step away from getting canned, Disney can also terminate him for excessive absences/lates as well, which is what he has. He is down there until August? How long has he been there? Accumulating that many points so soon is absolutely cause for concern. The termination guidelines are you get three attendence reprimands before getting terminated and two performance reprimands before getting terminated. They are not combined, you can still get terminated because of an attendance reprimand even if you don't have any performance reprimands.

Alot of it depends on the managers, he NEEDS to speak to his managers before he makes any desicions. If he doesn't, the end result may be something he does not like.

If you're terminated, I believe it's an automatic no rehire, and any points on your sons record will show if he applies again at a later date. I would assume they would be perceived negatively.

Id start taking cabs to work if it takes him that long if he wants to make sure he doesn't lose his job. If I want a future with a company I'd put in the money (if I had it) to ensure I got to work on time. That or he needs to start aiming to get to work an hour earlier. As far as the forgetting to clock in or out he should create sone pneumonic device to make him remember.

Self terming is different. If it was for a good reason and you can demonstrate to them that you're ready to commit to working again, they may give you another chance. Or so I've heard. Termination means never ever having a chance to work for any part of Disney ever again. Is there ANY chance he can stick it out and make it a point to leave SUPER early for work? I've never had a reprimand, but one month I was sick for 2 days and I didn't want to come close so I overcompensated and made sure to clock in early. He can clock in up to 15 minutes early for his shifts. Tell him to ask his manager about the doctors note and maybe he will be able to get only 1 sick points. Like glendalais said though, it's a maybe thing. I don't know if it's worth him leaving the program. They will most likely ask why he left if he applies for another program or a regular role. For the internship aspect, they really don't like to see any reprimands :(

Being termed for attendence will not result in a permanent no-rehire status, it may take a few years but it is possible to get your rehire status lifted.
Self-terming would result in restricted rehire status which wouldn't take as long to be lifted.

Did he just take the doctor's note to his managers? He needs to speak with his manager about the sick days. He needs to take the doctor's note over the Health Services to get the required forms needed to request the days be combined into 1 if he had called in sick on consecutive days. He can have up to three days combined into one once per program. He must take the forms back to the manager who was in charge when he called in after he has gone to health services, they must sign off on it and submit it. This could take up to a few weeks and he must follow up on it. It is not something that happens automatically in the CP program - he must take those steps to request the points be combined/rolled into one point.

The sad thing is that he finally has gotten a livable apt.

He can attend the graduation in June but his official program end date is still August.

That is a pretty hefty commute. I have a lot of friends that work at Disney and commute and the longest is only 40 minutes. I am not sure why he choose to live so far away, but he really needs to leave 2 hours early if possible to be to work on time so he won't receive any more late violations.

He really also needs to concentrate on the clock-out violations, these are easily avoided and really shouldn't be happening at all at this point if he wants to stay in good graces with the company.

I would strongly suggest that he speaks with his leaders about the points and definitely have him follow up with the doctor's note if he did not do that originally.

My guess is that he lives in the CP apartments & doesn't have a car. The busses are great cuz CPs don't have to pay for gas or anything, but the schedules suck. They typically combine stops (Epcot resorts, Caribbean, Pop, & ESPN), making it over an hour from the time it leaves the first housing complex.

Why don't you ask your son these questions, Baddad? I'm sure he has a better insight into his own personal situation than any stranger on a message board does. Its a bit odd to me that you are asking about this on the boards.

Also, with two attendence reprimands he already doesn't meet transfer guidelines and will be put on restricted rehire status even if he does complete his program. This means to get re-hired he'll have to have held the same job for at least 6 months prior to applying and will have to have his application reviewed by a rehire committee.

My S needs advice from those who experienced/know about these issues. Every company or program is different.

He took the doctor's note to his managers and Health Services. He told me that CP don't have the same status as FT-CMs. They wouldn't accept it. Since I've never worked for Disney, I don't know. He isn't a confrontation person so he'll avoid a uncomfortable situtation rather than confront it. (that's his personality)

He took the taxi a couple of times ($$) when he first started and didn't have a grip on the bus schedule but he needs decide what is more important.

He'll be back in community college for Fall and Spring semesters, planning to attend a university (Fall 2012/Spring 2013) and may reapply Fall 2013 or Spring 2014. He plans to redo the CP experience and hopefully an internship. So a restrict rehire is better than a NO hire.

CPs can in fact have three consecutive sick days combined into one point with the note from the docter and the form from health services one time per program. My daughter did this last fall so I am speaking from experience. Your son MUST continue to follow up on this and take this to his manager's supervisors if he is not getting this taken care of by his immediate manager. He should find out why they would not accept it. It won't be a matter of confrontation, just an issue of getting the correct information. Unfortunately not all of the manager know all of the guidelines, this happens in every company. Please tell him to keep trying, if he can have some of the points combined, it would certainly help his situation.

Just a little info on selfterming you have to have a reason. They will know if he quits just so he won't get fired. If he does happen to do that. He would need to work at one company for 6 months and reapply afterwards to be considered and even then its just that...considered.

Good news is it happens quite often people return from ST. I'm actually going to be attempting for Spring 12.
