Hi all!

Just changed to the Free Dining promo from Kids Stay Free and was able to upgrade to CSR from POP for very little price difference.

We have never stayed at a moderate and my husband seemed most interested in this one since I nixed the cabins at FW until next time (maybe).
We are a family of 4 - DH, DS (will be 4), DS2 (will be 19 months), and me (will be 29 weeks prego during our trip in August). We are driving so CSR seemed really centrally located to all of the theme parks too, another bonus if we drive vs. bus to the theme parks (the idea of taking a double stroller on the busses doesn't excite me, so we're wavering here).

Questions!

1 - What section do you prefer? (we aren't paying more for "preferred). I'm thinking Cabanas, but does it really matter? Also, the res agent said they don't have elevators so I'm thinking 1st floor is highly suggested.

2 - Reviews on Pepper Market and Cafe Rix (for quick breakfast) are mixed to "eh". Any recent visitors??

3 - Recreation for little ones - tell me about "The Dig"! Also, I've read they have life jackets available at the pool. Is this true and are they free to use?

4 - Also heard the busses there are not the greatest, so another thought for driving... but would love to hear your experience.

Any other opinions would be great, including on mousekeeping, check in (we are probably not doing "online" check in), etc...

We stayed at CSR in summer 2009. We enjoyed it. I was torn on what section to request. We ended up in the Cabanas and I really loved it. I really liked the tropical feel of the place and the one we were in was close to the bus stop and not far from the main pool. I tink the Cabanas have only two floors so, if you were on an upper floor it would only be one flight of stairs to climb after a long day in the parks.

We took a walk around the resort one night and the Casitas were busy and there were some loud people by the pool. Of course, you can get loud people in any section. We just happened to have quiet people staying the same time we were.

The pool does have life jackets for you use and they were free two years ago. There is a big bin with them near the slide. You just pick one up to use. They had lots. My son loved the burgers at the pool. It was his favorite meal of all of WDW. We had it a couple of nights while there.
He still talks about eating there and wanting to go back to WDW and have another burger there.

My DH and I took advantage of Pepper Market's steak dinner for a Counter Service credit a couple of nights. The kids had burgers, we had steak (I think it was ribeye)and baked potato and other veggies all for one counter service credit each. The fajatiias looked and smelled delious. They are one counter service credit too I think.

We found Pepper Market easy to manage. I really do not understand the confusion by some people. We stayed at CBR too and we had to go to each station and wait on our food to be cooked just like the Pepper Market, so to us there doesn't seem to be any difference or issue, except for the drinks. There is no self-serve station for drinks at Pepper Market, just in the go cafe or at least there wasn't back in 2009. Things might have changed.

We loved the feel and atmosphere of CSR. I loved the hammocks and just all the tropical plants.

I highly recommend doing the online check-in. It was great! I literally went right up to the front desk while there was a huge line for the regular checkin. I also got all my requests, Cabanas, first floor, near bus stop.

We stayed there last year for a Sunday to Sunday visit. Ranchos section by the quiet pool...that was our water view room! It was very nice. It wasn't a far walk to the dig site. We never did walk to the food court area though nor did we eat there. We had deluxe dining and used all sit down meals. Never used the bus system..rented a car. Did online check in and our rooms were ready in the early morning for us! Yes there are life jackets and they are free to use. My son LOVED the dig site!

Personally, our favorite is Casitas 4 and 5 because of the courtyards and fountains; we also really liked Cabana 8A last year -- close to the Dig Site pool and a short walk over the bridge to the main building. There are elevators in ALL buildings except for Casitas 2, so the res agent was wrong!

As long as you are on the dining plan, it is a great value. It is not set up like other food courts. There are different stations that you go to where you order your food and it is prepared fresh; we've never had a bad meal there (we prefer lunch/dinner over breakfast)

We don't use the buses as we always rent a car (we go to Marco Island after our stay at Disney). Since I was asked to take over the threaed, we did use the bus two years ago to the MK so I would have a little knowledge about it. We got on at the last bus stop (which is actually Bus Stop 1) and it took us exactly ten minutes at 5:30 at night to get to the MK (and we all had a seat). The MK is the furthest from the CSR at 10 minutes; Epcot, AK and DHS are all around five to eight minutes on the bus

Watch the CSR thread for my review - we'll be there in 19 days!

We have stayed there 3 other times, but not on our last couple of trips. I will say that we like the Cabanas section and have requested it for our next trip. I wouldn't mind being in the Casitas either, as I think they're beautiful. We had a nice stay in Ranchos, though, too! We were super close to the bus-stop there, although further from El Centro.

We've enjoyed the meals we've had at Pepper Market, although, again, it has been a couple of years. However, we didn't have an issue with how PM is set up. I like being able to sit at a table with real silverware and not having to wait in line behind 5 other guests who don't know what's included on their dining plan while my food gets cold.

My kids love the Dig Site. Great pool. Fun playground - better than Pop's, which was tiny.

We've had excellent bus service at CSR. As a matter of fact, it's one of the major factors in why we're returning to CSR after trying other resorts. We've rarely waited more than 10 minutes for the bus of choice. We do tend to drive to DTD because that route seems longer. Even with your double-stroller, take my advice and take the bus to MK. If you drive, you still have to fold up the stroller to get on the tram to get to the Transportation Center, then either wait for the ferry or the monorail to get to MK. The bus drops you off right in front of MK. The only time I will drive to MK again is if I'm leaving directly from MK to drive home.

We stayed there a few years ago. We were in the Rancho section. That section is directly opposite of El Centro. So, some might consider it a walk. Pepper Market is a good value when using the dining plan.

Congrats on your new baby! We stayed there last year when I was about 30 weeks pregnant. I think our room was around building 8a. It was in the casitas around to the left of El Centro right behind the lake/water area. There were definitely elevators in our building. We would sometimes use them if our DD was asleep in the stroller or if we didn't feel like closing it or lugging it up the stairs. I think we were on the 3rd floor. I don't remember if we had a "preferred" room or not. I do know that it was a water view room. I called ahead of time and put in a request for a room close to El Centro since I knew we were going to grab a quick breakfast almost every morning and I didn't want to have to walk too far to get there every day. I was doing enough walking in the parks. At check-in, they had us in a Rancho; like the farthest point possible from El CEntro. I asked nicely to please be moved closer and they had a better room, thankfully.

The breakfast from Pepper Market was ok. We just wanted to grab "snack" items with our dining credits and run to the busses. On our last trip, we were at the AKL and they had a nice yogurt parfait with fresh strawberries and granola. Nothing like this in Pepper Market. I was a bit disappointed, but got over it. We settled for bagels and cream cheese or peanut butter. We never at a hot breakfast there, so I can't help you with that. Oh, and it was really annoying that you couldn't get your own bagels; you had to stand in a line and tell the CM what you wanted and then she would get them. The bagel bins were not behind a counter, but are right there at customer level. When you are in a hurry, you just want to grab your 3 bagels and pay; you don't want to chit chat or have someone ask you 3 times to repeat what kind you want.

It was cold during our trip (unseasonably), and we didn't really leave much time for resort activities, so I can't answer your questions about the kids' activities.

The busses. Well, this was definitely the most disappointing part of the trip. We were at El Centro almost every morning. Only the couple when we had early ADR's did we go to "our" bus stop. "Our" stop was always completely empty. No a soul was there. Not even a bus. We left an hour plus for travel (Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace) and ended up having to take cabs at the last minute because no busses came by. We never had this issues at AKL. Never. Even at El Centro when there was a cast member with a walkie talkie asking people who were waiting forever and groaning when the the next bus was for the same park that no one wanted the last time (like *another* Epcot bus when it was EMH at MK and Epcot wasn't even open yet - you would think they would know to have lots of busses running for the park that opened early!) what bus they needed, that bus still didn't show up. Worst.busses.ever. They don't even share busses with another resort!! We also had very long waits at the parks for busses back to the resort. Again, we would be standing there in a big long line watching yet another bus for ~insert another resort that already had multiple busses and doesn't have a line~ when none came by for ours. This made for some really cranky family members. We never had to wait *that* long for a bus back to AKL. Maybe it was just a bad time of the year for the busses and things are running smoothly now? Who knows.

All the buildings except Casitas 2 have elevators; there's also a round-about way to get to Casitas 2 from Casitas 3 which does have an elevator. But as long as you're not in 2, it's no big deal.

Since we pay OOP, we don't do the Pepper Market very often. We did enjoy the kid's breakfast, though. If you're on the DDP, Pepper Market's a good value.

There's a fountain/shower type thing and what I believe is the longest resort slide on property. There's also a playground near the Dig Site. Life jackets are available and are free.

4 - Also heard the busses there are not the greatest, so another thought for driving... but would love to hear your experience. We used the buses and had no problem at all. We used both Bus Stop #2 (first on, first off) and El Centro when we went for morning coffee. Didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes for any bus, but we don't do DTD - I understand that this bus is less frequent. And we found that the bus stops for CSR back from the parks were very convenient - right in the front!

The only issue we had is that there were no options for hot chocolate or iced tea for the refillable mugs. That was a bit of a disappointment.

we had excellent bus service at casitas 4. it's bus stop #2. there was a quiet pool right out our door, and it was less than a 2 minute walk to the bus stop. first on, first off! there were many times the bus I was on couldn't accommodate the last stop at el centro because of capacity. we loved coronado and it's the only moderate that we'll stay at going forward. the pool and play area are great--have a great trip!!

We loved CSR. Its a lovely resort and we had some of the nicest cm's we have ever had at WDW. The gift shop is huge, grounds are lovley, excellent main pool and quiet pools and the whole place just felt so relaxing and well themed.

We enjoyed our location in Ranchos. We had a quiet pool right outside our door (I think we were 7A, first floor). The walk to the dig site was less than five minutes, the walk to the El Centro area where the restaurants are was about five minutes, maybe a tad longer but we walked slow because it was so beautiful. My aunt was with us and she was using a cane for a hip injury and she did fine.

CSR is a convention resort but I would have never known that had I not been a disboard member who had researched my resort! The good thing about the convention aspect is that many guests of the resort are in meetings so the busses are not generally crowded. The pools are also not as crowded, in the daytime especially.

I loved having Siesta's right at the pool. Super convenient, dh and I could get a drink from the bar, get us all lunch, drink refills, snacks and never have to leave the actual pool area. So nice!

I love the food at Pepper Market, the set up is different but its easily figured out. I don't like the gratuity thing but you can avoid that by asking for your food to go and take it outside. We were not on a dining plan when we stayed there and it was pricey. We have since returned there to eat on the DDP and what a great deal it is! Where else can you get steak for a cs credit?

I think you will love the resort, I know we did. So did my inlaws and they are very choosey about where they stay! We have done three resorts at WDW with them, one of which was a deluxe and they preferred CSR.

Yes, this is correct. My DH and I 90% of the time take the food outside to enjoy sitting by the lake and eating, and we have never paid the 10% on our "to go food."

My wife and I have stayed at CSR twice now, with our 3rd visit just 10 days away. While it's true that we have never stayed at another Disney resort, we love CSR.

My wife and I perfer the beach feel of the Cabanas section. Everyone has their own favorite.

Pepper Market is good. We have eaten there at least once on every trip. My only complaint is that they have limited what they have. It seems to me they used to carry a lot more in terms of food options.

The main pool is great. The quiet pools are great. It's nice to have the food and bar right next to the main pool. The pools at night are beautiful.

My wife and I don't drive when we stay on property, so we use Disney transportation for everything. We've never had a problem. I think the longest that we ever waited for a bus was like 20 mins. We have never missed a rope drop, EMH, or ADR because of the buses. Usually the buses are good in the morning. Where we have seen a problem with the buses is in the evening, especially around closing time. All in all it's nice to not have to drive for a little more than a week.

I was not going to do online check in, but after looking at it we will be doing our online check in tonight!

My daughter and I stayed at CSR last July when we came to WDW for the National Down syndrome Conference.
(otherwise, I would never do WDW in July!).

We stayed in Casitas #4---and loved it. We had a lovely room, until a group of loud So American kids were put on either side of us. CSR cast memmbers couldn't have been nicer and moved us to another room, in a more quiet corner of the same building. We didn't have as nice a view (this time we viewed the parking lot)--but after no sleep--I was willing to see just the lot in the early morning!
The castmembers came and helped me move my items, moved the microwave I had requested (and food I had ordered from Green Grocer).

I think the food in all the food courts at all the resorts (from the budget through the moderate) are going to be just about the same. I don't think you are going to get 4 star fare at these places folks---just don't expect to). But the service was excellent, and the staff was amazing.

We are headed back down to WDW come October before our Disney Cruise, and I am trying to nudge our friends into staying at this resort vs another one, as I enjoyed it so much more than the other one I had stayed in (twice I had stayed in POR previous).

But, everyone has differing opinons--and this is mine.

Oh--and for bus service. the BEST part of CSR--they don't share their buses. They have their own buses since they are a conference center. They pick up at the one resort only.

Thank you all for your answers so far - we are very excited and know the time is going to fly and all of a sudden it's the end of August and we're on our way.

Thanks also to the person(s) who corrected the Disney rep regarding the elevators. Since we are booked for a standard room, I wonder if it matters what floor we are on. Still unsure if I want to stay in the Cabanas or Casitas (or Ranchos). I was thinking Cabanas because they were closer to the Dig and thus more convenient for our boys. I love to walk and I'm hoping that the heat combined w/ my belly cooking at 29 weeks won't stop me too much (I'm generally the energizer bunny that doesn't quit). Because of this, I'm not as worried about being some distance from El Centro. But it seems like the vast majority prefer the Casitas. Is it just the courtyards and such or are there other reasons (other than Bus Stop #2)?

Are all of the rooms decorated the same? Somehow I thought the Ranchos had completely different furnishings (one pic I saw they were brightly colored like some houses you'd see in South Florida) ...

For those with kids, do you prefer the Quiet Pools at times over the main pool? Wondering if it would be so chaotic that we would prefer the Quiet Pools (since my kids aren't yet "swimmers").

We are on the dining plan and may or may not have breakfast at the Pepper Market. When we stayed at Pop, often it was just too crazy in there, plus the saving of tables (by the time their family would arrive, I could have eaten and been out of there) and people not cleaning up after themselves (simply gross, it really was shameful at times). Wondering if you've noticed the same here? Otherwise, it's just as easy to grab a banana or yogurt from the fridge in the room and have a CS at the parks. And we enjoyed Pop, we truly did (especially b/c we got the buy 4, get 3 free deal), but the ability to get a MOD for essentially the same price, couldn't beat it.

All room interiors look the same. You may be looking at some older pictures of CSR, before its refurb, the rooms did have some brighter colors. Now they are more upscale looking and also a bit on the contemporary side. The exterior buildings and landscaping are different in each section to reflect the different southwest themes. Ranchos looks more desert southwest in the pueblo style, the others look more tropical. Although Ranchos was more lushly landscaped than I thought and we really enjoyed that section.

Pepper Market can get crowded in the morning, but nothing like Pop's food court! You can also grab items from Cafe Rix and take them outside to save time.

I think you will love the quiet pools at CSR. People alway say go for the moderats for the main pools with the slides over the value pools without slides (and hottubs) however to me what makes me want to spend the extra $$ for a mod is the quiet pools. They are always quiet, nicely landscaped and usually tucked away and therefore feel secluded. Versus Pop's two quiet pools that have virtually no landscaping, no shade and are sitting out in the middle of the resort between the buildings!

Our quiet pool in the Ranchos section was never crowded and we loved having it right outside our door.

I am wondering if that agent was mixed up with Caribbean Beach. For sure that resort has NO elevators in any buildings. Agents get mixed up because lets face it, most of them are online booking trips for a living not on disboards getting their facts straight!

How is the section at CSR with the beach? We are hoping to stay at the CSR the December and get near the beach. Is the location in terms of the room to the beach set up like the CBR? I just wanted to give my two cents on the Pepper Market.

I really like it. For a CS meal, I think the quality is great. All the food is freshly made, huge variety.... and its a step or two above fast food, which is great. My husband who is a picky eater also loves the PM. We usually make a stop there during a trip whether we are staying there or not.

I've never stayed at CBR, so can't compare the two. But please realize that the "beach" is only in the Cabanas section, and while you can request being in that section, it cannot be guaranteed. So if it's that important, you may want to book a resort where the beach is guaranteed.
