Length of Check-In Time?

Hello...

First timer to WDW. I have a 9:00PM ADR to Yachtsman Steakhouse on May 28th, however my plane does not land in MCO until 7:00PM from Kansas City. I am renting a car from MCO. I am doing the online check in to POP.

Will I be able to get to Yachtsman on time (or close to on time)?

it will be close...but you should make it. IF your plane is on time.

30 mins to get bags and car
30 mins to drive to the resort
30 mins to check in a drop off bags
30 mins to frshen u and drive to beach club

Are you sitting in the back of the plane where it can take 20-30 minutes just to get off the plane? Factor that in.

People sometimes stand in line for a long time to rent the car. Timing and car rental company have a lot to do with that. Time after time, L&M has the shortest lines, but every once in a while, they'll give you a car that kinda sucks if you don't specifically tell them that you want a car that is in good shape and does not smell.

Have one person go rent the car while the others get bags. After you rent the car, go back and take family and bags to car. It's a LOT quicker than everyone collecting the bags and then everyone going to rent the car.

Don't forget a few single dollar bills and a few quarters for the tolls.

You may want to drive straight to your dinner. If you are very lucky, you'll have time to get checked in and dump your bags off, but it all depends. I wouldn't count on the extra time.

Have your "Designated Car Renter" get off the plane first and hustle to the car rental - no carry on bags, no waiting for the family - just go!

If the plane is on time, if there is not a long wait for the rental car shuttle, if there is no line at the car rental counter, if there is no hassle with the bags, if there is no traffic backup on I-4, if there is no line at the front desk... That is a lot of "'IF'S" to factor in.

Have a back up dinner plan. Even consider The Yachtsman as the backup plan. Just go to Downtown Disney or relax at the resort and do the food court. If it looks like you won't make it, don't stress and race. They hand out a lot of speeding tickets on the roads to and from the airport.

Actually, this doesn't matter much if you have bags you need to retrieve. Getting off the plane sooner only means that you wait longer in baggage claim for your bags to come out. On a trip down in April, we were about 2/3 way back in the plane. Once we were off the plane and down to baggage claim, we still had to wait 15 minutes before the first bag came out. So, it made no difference in our overall wait time whether we were in the front or the back of the plane.

That being said, my experience is that the overall time from landing to being checked in at the resort is 90 - 120 minutes. Thus, it will be cutting it kind of close with a scheduled landing at 7:00 pm to make a 9:00 pm ADR at Yachtsman.

You should be fine on time. In the past, hotel check-in for me has always been about 30-35 minutes.

there are a lot of if in this. so i would be looking at the time and if you start to cut it close go streight to the yachtsmen for dinner and then back to check in to your resort. if you are paying oop for this then you would be fine. if you are using the meal plan then you have to check in first to get your kttw card. that will make you have to check in first. i would get the phone number to the yachtsnen so you can call them from the road if need be. good luck with this.

last summer we had a similar dilemma. when checking in have them call dining for you to let them know you may be late to dinner. they did it for us and we had no problem. we got there right on time but it was a piece of mind having the phone call made to dining.

We've showed up an hour late (due to transportation issues) and still got seated.

Since most people depend on Disney transportation, they give a lot of leeway.

jmho, as a 1st timer, 2 hours from 'stated' flight arrival time to dinner @ YS is just cutting it too short.

why not switch things around and as another poster suggested hang @ DTD make an ADR there & save signature TS for another day when you can relax and enjoy it.

btw, which car rental company? Might want to consider those with a frequent traveler program (i.e. national you can skip the lines @ terminal counter & proceed to garage...same w/alamo there's a code on transportation board produding very good rates for your time frame & they also have kiosk option to speed things along)

In my experience, the the later in the day your flight is, the more of a chance for a flight delay . . . So much can happen to your plane throughout the day that it ups the chance of a late flight.

Personally, I wouldn't book dinner without having at least a four hour window from the time my plane is supposed to land at MCO, but I HATE stressing about making it to an ADR.

Also, you may want to cancel one of your double books. I've heard Disney cancels ADRs that look like double bookings, especially if the ADRs are linked by your resort reservation number. I would hate for you to lose both ressies, especially during free dining, when it may be hard to find an open dinner ressie. Perhaps keep the 9:30 to give you more time?
