Question about classes

I'll be participating in the CP this Fall in the Merchandise area, and I was wondering if it is obligatory to take classes during the program? I'm graduating this May, which means I will not be receiving any school credit.

Disney classes are optional since you would be receiving no credit!

While it's not required some of the classes are fun and you might want to look into them.
Th exploration series has a lot of interesting classes. I took Disney Heritage and loved it. it was all about the history of the company. it was only 2 hours once a week, (so not that bad compared to some of the classes whic are 4 hours long) we had feild trips to MK and hollywood studios. they had differnt experts come in each week.

That depends on the college you attend. I know at my school there is a possibility to receive up to 7 or 8 credits depending on your major, what classes you take, etc. There is an additional fee however if you do want to receive credit. Again, it is mostly a case-by-case scenario.

If there are any classes that legitimately interest you or are relevant to your career plans, do it for the networking opportunities! Otherwise, you'll be reallllly busy so there's no reason to take them if you aren't benefitting personally or academically.

Hello all.

In discussing the WDWCP with my academic adviser (via email), she mentioned that it would be possible to take two classes [I am hoping for Marketing You: Personal and Career Development Strategies, and Disney Organizational Leadership], as well as cover my one Experiential requirement [Disney Experiential Learning Course]. In addition to those 9 credit hours, she suggested that I also take an additional 400-level English course online through Purdue (no intention of doing this). She did not go into greater detail.

Is this possible, or is she misinformed?
In regard to Spring of 2012, would 9 credit hours be more realistic during Advantage?
Would mentioning this plan to a phone interviewer be frowned upon?

While the Exploration seminars sound fun and informative, particularly Exploring Disney Heritage and Exploring Disney Marketing, they would probably be ruled out should I be limited to taking all of my credit courses in a 4-month span.

Included is a link to the information available to me through the university, and I have downloaded the syllabi for most of the Disney offerings to examine their content (from the official site) to cross-reference and ensure they are specifically what is being referred to on the Purdue site, since the names are obviously different.

My S finally has settled down to a decent apt and is ready to take some classes, courses, seminars. But what is what?
Do they require HW and tests?

I've read through most of the syllabi for the courses that offer college credit, specifically those that will help me graduate, and got a jump on some of the subject matter therein; that information can be found here:

The Exploration Series, linked to in the Topic menu at the top of that page, are the non-college-credit seminars.

Concerning your question about work schedules, that's very relevant to my previous post. Three 44-hour courses, plus 90 hours for the Experiential may be impossible in 100 days, so I'm hoping I could get it done during Spring Advantage.

Ikcerog- I'm pretty sure they only let you take a maximum of two classes a "semester"- meaning if you did advantage you could take two in the spring, two in the summer.

ladypage- I called and asked about that a few weeks ago and they said only the collegiate courses were available in the summer, and that we had to wait a few more months before the classes for the fall were put online.

I don't reccommend online classes while you're on the CP. I tried that because I needed to stay a fulltime student in order to keep my insurance and Disney classes didn't count for that. Online classes can be a lot of tedious work, a lot of reading and a lot writing assignments. Not so easy when you're working fulltime and there are so many more fun things you want to do with what free time you have.

I agree.
Spring Advantage would work best for me, as I could complete my degree while on the CP; 2 classes during the spring, and the Experiential (and perhaps something online) in the summer.

That's kinda cool... I've worked 60 hour weeks while going to school full time a few times and it is not fun! So it will be nice not to worry about that during disney! Heck the college program will probably almost feel easy... in a good way, more time to explore and enjoy life!
