Oh the frustration!

I just don't understand why it's so hard to find a partner that either a) loves Disney, b) likes Disney, or c) will at least humor/tolerate my love affair with it.

It's easy to meet people, but last time I brought up the whole "oh by the way, I go to WDW at least once a year and watch movies quite often" I was told I was immature and childish.

So what I'm wondering is: how did you meet you S/O? Online? At one of the parks? Just randomly meeting them in public?

Im lucky - my other half had a secret desire to go to WDW since he was a kid but never told me...until we discussed where to go on our honeymoon. Needless to say I was sceptical and agreed a split stay honeymoon - 1 week disney, 1 week NYC.

I got involved planning the trip and quickly became hooked, largely because of these boards. By the time we went it was 4 days NYC and 2 weeks disney and I am now the one going on my 40th birthday at the world!!!

Ive fallen in love with the place and its because of the man I love so I guess its about meeting someone who wants to share the things you love - not a real help I spose but if it can work with me it can work with anyone!!

I think a lot of times it is a matter of people just not having any actual knowledge of WDW. My DH couldn't understand why I wanted to go. We took our first trip in 2005, and by the time Wishes kicked off the very first night he said "I wonder when he can come back?"

He grew up in TX and had never been to a Disney park. He figured it was like Six Flags. But NOW he gets it.

I think you have to meet someone willing to travel with you, not necessarily someone who already loves WDW. :)

I am more into Disney than my partner. That has not stopped him wanting to come to the parks. We are from Australia and I have been to DL twice and he has once.
We are off to WDW for the first time at the end of this month and are both excited.
I think it is good to be passionate about things - and a life without obsession is no life at all haha.
Some people love watching sport, hitting the clubs, whatever. I say if people give you grief for something you love then it's time to find better prospects.
Maybe it will be hard pressed to find someone suitable who loves it as much as you do but surely it is not too hard to find someone who is happy for you to indulge in your passions? I have faith they are out there for you :)

My partner and I met when we were teenagers at work and have been together *counts* 12 years.

My bedroom at home had MM themed everything so she knew what she was getting in to :) Turns out we're both equal Disney fans. Awesome :D

Tygerlilly I'm sorry someone said your love of Disney was childish and immature - I could never imagine judging someone on a love they have and I hope you find someone who loves you all the more because of your love of Disney :)

I think people also go through phases in life... when hubby and I first started to date we went to WDW after being together about a couple years because I begged him to go, then we didn't go back for about a decade.... now we are about to leave for our 4th trip back since 2008... Hubby would tolerate cartoons when we first went out because I'd ask him to take me/watch a DVD... now he loves them and will instigate watching them and while it was me who instigated us going on a DVC tour out of curiosity it was him who talked me into actually buying.

So it can happen but I'll bet there's times in ones life where they feel they are 'too cool' for Disney or that Disney is 'too childish'... but don't fret there's a Disney love, or if not love, Disney like out there for you!

Good luck in your search!

I met my future husband at a club in Boston 16 years ago this summer. When he told me he worked at The Disney Store I knew I had found Mr. Right. I was lucky.

I'm not dating or trying to find an S/O but if and when I do, I already know that WDW will be a deal breaker for me. As you said, either love, try it, or tolerate my obsession or we just won't work out. You're NOT childish or immature to have a love for Disney. Keep on keeping on and remain true to yourself. It's ok when the wrong person for you goes away. When you find the person you should be with, you will BOTH know.

For some reason when my dh and I were dating I never told him about my love affair with anything Disney. Well we have been married for almost 11 years and my dh has learned that I am serious about anything Disney and that are kids are being raised to love anything Disney.

Dh doesn't love it as much as the kids and I, but he does enjoy going with us as a family and he loves staying CL at the Poly.

As to the person saying you were immature and childish sounds like the child to me.

So, I do belive you will find someone one day who will either really love Disney like you or will enjoy going with you.

@Tygerlilly.I was lucky like STOCKYJIM.I have a partner that always wanted to go to disney like me..since we were kids.We went to WDW in 99' for the first time and been going ever since. We both love WDW and especially when we meet new friends during Gay Days. You will meet someone that will like to go to WDW with u and watch movies.

I met my DW at church. I laughed at her desire to go to WDW, but, I agreed to go for a day during our honeymoon because I love her. She planned the day well to be sure I had a good time, thus, I agreed to go back for 5 nights a year later (actually, I agreed to go for 3 nights, she stretched it to 4 nights during planning, then, during the drive down she explained things to me and convinced me that a 5th night would really be best and then we asked for it at check-in).

Anyway, it was a staged conversion. Plus, I do think that the side of my DW that loves all things Disney is pretty child-like, but, I also think it's great that she can find joy in simple things and most of her is a mature adult.

This is funny because not too long ago I met a guy about my age online who LOVES Disney and also happened to be very attractive. I mean, he did the college program and just loves it all. I thought it was too good to be true! Turns out, it was. He didn't seem to think it was a match made in heaven like I did. Ah well, perhaps its just me and my ineptitude to be able to talk to strangers. Either way, I'm sure someone out there will share in my love for the mouse!
