Split stay? Two resorts, 1 trip?

I want to split up our trip into 2 resorts and am looking at starting with a value, Pop Century for 4 or 5 nights and then finishing up at a moderate, either Riverside or Caribbean beach for 2 or 3 nights depending on how my budget plays out. We will be reliant solely on WDW transportation, so how difficult is it to make the transfer and will they transfer your luggage for you while you tour? And do we have to be out of the first resort by 11 am and then not allowed to check in at the other until 3 pm? How does this all work exactly? Thanks!

They will transfer your luggage for you.

You can check-out anytime before 11:00 am and check in anytime after 7:00 am at the new resort.

Your room may/may not be available at that time. You can go to the parks and they will text/call you when your room becomes available.

When you return, call baggage services and they will deliver to your room; you must be there to receive your bags.

We did a split stay between AKL and Pop that way in March! It was fine. We took the first bus to a park from AKL and then picked up the bus from the park to Pop. We needed to check in right away to get our meal plan.

Most people say to upgrade at the end, but we knew what we would be switching to and were fine with the switch down... we rented DVC points and made the switch when our room type ran out since we booked late.

The luggage was in the room at the end of the day and it was totally easy. Would have been even easier if we did not need the meal plan attached to the second half the first afternoon, but it still went smoothly.

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

We do split stays often because I enjoy resort hopping.

It's much easier to just grab a cab and move your own luggage. For $20, I prefer it because then I know my luggage will arrive at the new resort and it will definitely be there when my new room is ready.

We get to new resort, check in and get our packet, store our luggge with bell services (since we stay DVC, rooms are never ready early).

We either go to the parks for the day or we go to the pool at the new resort (we pack a small carry on with pool attire and do not check this with Bell Services).

If you do want to use the free transfer (well, not free since you need to tip) with Bell Services, you should know that your luggage, regardless of how early you drop it with them at your departing resort, will not be available to you until late afternoon at your new resort.

LOL, now DH tells me he wants to go to "that place where we ate at Boma" at least for a night... so I need to figure out if I can manage to budget a night there too just for him and of course breakfast and dinner there at Boma too while we are already there.

We've done split stays several times and have never had problems with Disney transferring our luggage. The only downside is that you can often be "homeless" for a few hours if your new room is not ready.

All of our split stays so far have been between two resorts, but we're being crazy this year and doing a triple split stay.

We're doing a triple split this year, too! Crazy! Hehe

Haha! Glad we're not the only ones.

We first booked our DVC stay at OKW months ago. Then we decided to add a day to the beginning. Then when AP rates came out, we decided to add an additional day to the end.

We'll be doing BWV to OKW to VWL!

First, definitely look into moving to a Deluxe. Despite the category change from Value to Moderate, I think the move from POP to CBR is nominal. No real change in location and the resorts/rooms are far more similar than they are different. Not worth the cost or hassel to move from one to the other, IMHO. But a move to AKL would be worth it for sure.

Second, Pakey is right (as usual). Grab a cab and control your own destiny.

Triple stays for all!! WaHOO! I think I will try to get DH his night at AKL, I have a limited budget to stay within and trying to make it all work and then get as many Disney days as possible. That's the kicker, as 1 night at AKL is equal to 3 at All Stars. I had it all figured out (so I thought, lol until DH decides he wants just 1 night at AKL) I would love to resort hop though. If it were just me, I'd almost chose a new resort every night, well every other night anyway.

we'll be doing AKL to BWV to OKW! The person i rented the points from told me I was the first one he knew to actually do this! Interesting!
