HELP!!!! Keurig CRAWLING with....

No...they were crawling in the water reservoir when I opened the top to fill it.

EWW EWW EWW....

I called the Keurig hotline and he said to run multiple loads of hot water through it and then descale it.

I ran 4 loads of water and saw 5 floaters. I'm feeling a little sick.

Oh no. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Is it those teeny tiny little ants? I can't stand those buggers. (shiver)

I was going to tell you to do exactly what Keurig did. Hot water kills bugs instantly. Ants are irritating, but they won't make anyone sick or anything. Also, is there a trail of ants leading to and from it? If there are, they are taking water back to their home. You'll need to treat the source then. There are several safe safe methods. Google ants in kitchen or something like that and you'll get lots of hits.

Exactly this, we used to pour the kettle on them (where appropriate of course). Best of luck, that would freak me out too!

Once your machine is cleaned and floater-free, I'd quickly seal it up tightly in a plastic bag and move it out of the kitchen for a few days to see if the ants are really gone and you're not getting new ones coming in.

I feel your pain. Our ant season hasn't quite started yet.:scared1:

If you don't pitch the whole thing, after you clean it, I would move it off your kitchen counter or the exact same problem might come back. They are attracted to the water or maybe the coffee if you drink a sweet flavor.

Throw it out and get a new one... I could NEVER use a kitchen appliance after knowing it was crawling with insects...

Keurigs are too expensive for me to throw away!

So it's hot water and de-scaling for now. We have had an ant problem in the kitchen in the past but thought I had it under control with traps. Apparently they've returned in my coffee maker.

I should probably turn to a professional for my ant problem.......

I'm sorry, but I could never drink another cup out of the machine after that. I'd toss it and get another one.
This same thing happened to me (although thank goodness it was a Mr. Coffee and not a Keurig!) I killed the ants and then tossed it. There was NO WAY I was ever going to be able to drink another cup of coffee out of it!

Sayhello

Go to the hardwear/walmart store and buy DE, it is safe and effective. Use it under appliences and places where they could be comming from. The bonus is it's also effective for proventing roachs, bedbugs and other nasty creatures safely w/o harmful side effects.

Before calling a professional, I had a problem with teeny tiny sugar ants. If the smallest crumb was left on the kitchen counter I had those tiny ants everywhere. They drove me CRAZY. I tried everything, but couldn't get rid of them. They only showed up on my kitchen counter by the sink. Someone told me to try Ortho Home Defense Max. It was like a miracle. I sprayed it all around the crevices and back splash by the sink, for a little while I saw a few ants here and there occasionally, but in a couple weeks NADA, I haven't seen those tiny ants in almost 2 years now. I re-spray every 2-3 months.

Awwh, that stinks. We have ants here in early spring. I hate it. They can manage to creep throuh any little hole that no one would ever even see. Good luck taking care of your problem.

I would NEVER throw my Keurig out because of ants..its TOO expensive...and besides...they are ants...now spiders on the other hand...

I would just clean it out with vinegar and what other posters said (NOT throw it away....geesh)

And move it.

We have a bad ant problem here right now. Its too soggy outside so they are coming indoors. :confused3

What I did was mix vinegar with water in a spray bottle and spray the corners/ crevices of all the corners in my kitchen.....and now we dont have them in our house ;)
