No more photos on AP's at Disneyland

Starting April 6th, Disneyland is eliminating the photos on AP's. You still need a picture in the system so they can look at you as you go through the turn styles, FUN FACT...If you buy your AP online, you can upload your own picture. If you buy your pass at the park, I guess you still have to go to the AP center and have your photo taken (unless it's on file)

This is not a belated April Fool's joke, is it?:rotfl2: (I don't trust anyone in the days surrounding April 1st!)

Anyway, that's very interesting! My photo looks like I'm Granny Goose - with black tar between my teeth!:rotfl2: So I will not be upset to get rid of that photo and not have to show it to people when I hand the AP over for discounts!

That is interesting. I find it really funny that they don't take new pictures when you renew your AP. Mine is several years old and doesn't really look too much like me.

Hmmm.... me thinks we have a late April prankster in our midst. :stir:

A quick Google search in effort to either confirm or deny this information lead me directly to an almost identical posting YESTERDAY (cough April Fools Day cough) on another fan site by the same person. (Well, okay, I don't know if it's the same person so I should say, the same screen name.)

However, CMHusband does post a second time later in the thread denying it's an April Fool's joke (without much success in convincing others). I found no other information regarding this topic from my search.

So... the jury is still out on this one. Guess we'll find out in a few days.

I CAN confirm that you can renew without having your picture re-taken. DH upgraded his AP at the Guest Relations booth outside the Park last year. They were able to do it there because they did not need to take his picture since it was already in the system.

There is no picture on Knott's passes now. You have to write your name on them so you don't mix them up with family members.

My thoughts/proof:

1) I was told the same thing by a friend who works in foods.
2) I know what the CM part of the poster's name refers to, and that knowledge of this information is both possible and plausible. For privacy (both the OP's and my own), I won't state the particulars, sorry.

I can also ask other friends who work at the Land, but since I have two sources that I've never known to lie, I'm going with this as being true. The only thing I don't get is that, in order to do this, (from how my friend described it) it's going to take new registers and such in order for the picture to show up, unless they've figured out how to do it on all the different food, merch, parking, etc. registers. It really sounds like a major overhaul, but :confused3

If you go to said "other posting by person of same name" yes thats me. You will see that others have confirmed this info as legit. It cracked me up that no one believed me. I didn't even realize it was April 1st until it was too late.
Oh well. Training for ticketing CM's starts tomorrow.

I think we are all fairly sure it stands for "Cast Member." :wizard:

I dont think there will be a need for an overhaul at all. I had a Premiere Pass last year, and it did not have a photo on it. The WDW AP's don't either. For discounts, I had to show a photo ID just as I would for a credit card. When I had this pass I had to show ID at both WDW and DLR, except at the entrance booths. At WDW they use the finger scan technology, and at DLR my picture came up just as the OP described.

Ah no, I meant I know what role CMHusband's wife has at DLR. I know all too well what CM stands for.

My friend said that at every register, the picture would pop up when the AP is scanned, slid, etc. To the best of my knowledge, only the booths and ticket taker's registers have the capabilities of showing a picture. Maybe parking does, but merchandise and food registers don't. That is why I said it could possibly be an overhaul, because a majority of the registers don't show the pictures. If they just need to add certain software, then it wouldn't be that hard.

I will say, it is tough being married to a CM also and knowing info ahead of time. I usually wait until something is mentioned and then add to it so he doesn't get in trouble for leaking anything. The new process for AP's does start April 6. I'm not happy about this, but see how they're running out of places for an AP center with the bakery ideas for the current location. Hoping that eases Blue Ribbon at least too.

Food, beverage and stores will ask to see valid ID to a guest that presents an AP for a discount. The photos show up in parking, and at main entrance booths and turn styles. This might bum some folks out because I've seem lots of posts from people who say they don't bring ID to the parks, just their pass, which I find it strange not to carry ID everywhere.

Plus construction in DCA could cause a problem with the AP center over there too.

Yeah but that place always has more CMs at the desk than prosepective of current AP holders.

Why is this neccesary at all? If I was to guess by Christmas, all the DLR gates will have finger scanners like WDW.

Does this mean you have to get your hand stamped if you want to park hop?

Doubtful there are any changes with hand stamping because your picture will show up at the turnstile machine, just like it always has. I've never had any CM look at my picture on the AP ID, just what came up on the screen. :)

I think this is a nice change. CMHusband, I'd be even more thrilled if I could submit my own picture online for my profile! I have massive hat-head in my current AP picture and I really look doofy. lol

I am just glad that every member of our family just renewed and got our picture passes. :) It seems silly, but I like them as they are!

you will be able to submit your own pictures online. Presently that part is being tested. I think they are afraid of what people might post - and plan on inspecting and approving every picture submitted.

The biggest reason they are doing this is once you buy a pass, they wont need to give you a "new" pass next year. when you renew, upgrade etc, you'll just keep you same pass - maybe get 3-5 years out of it. This will cut down on huge printing expenses and its "greener" in that they are throwing away less plastic every year.

Don't they already do this pretty much..same pass I mean. I renewed online so just have my same grainy horrible picture.
I had heard a rumor that they were maybe working toward having payment plans available for all APs..not just for those who live in California..maybe this could be a precursor to that being implemented? ( I hope)
