POP vs French Quarter

OK. This is the dilemma - We are going in November seven days, six nights, one day at Universal. 7 people, 2 rooms. Is it worth the extra money to stay at French Quarter rather than POP? My Kids do not want to stay at another value, but I really don't see a difference. Kids are 9 and 16. I mean, all you really do is sleep at the room anyway. So - What's your take?

We're value resort people all the way. We've stayed at FQ & Riverside as well as AKL. Pop is our favorite resort. The food courts are really hectic, the volume is loud pretty much everywhere, and the pace is fast. None of those things appeal to us, but we don't spend a lot of time there. We'd rather spend less and stay longer or go more often.

I had friends stay at ASM in January in a family suite. You might want to look into that. The bedroom slept four (two beds) and the living room had a pull out sofa, slept two, and a pull out chair, which slept one, very comfortably. The fact that there was two bathrooms and a small kitchenette, made it very affordable and convenient for a group of seven. I believe the room was around $179 per night.

• POFQ was is in the process of being renovated and it should be completed soon. The rooms will have queen size beds while POP has full size beds.
• POFQ has easy access to Downtown Disney by boat.
• You can use the pools at both POR and POFQ when you stay at one of those resorts.
• The pools have slides and the value resorts do not.
• The rooms come with a refrigerator while POP rooms do not.
• The moderates also have table service restaurants and food courts. POP only has a food court but it is a very good one.
• Of course money is a big factor too with the moderates costing about 1/3 more than the values.

If all you want is a place to rest your head then save the money and go with a value resort. Or stay offsite. Since you're planning to do Universal it might not be a bad idea to look into offsite resorts.

We've stayed at Pop 3 times and POFQ twice. I would go for POFQ everytime if we had the money - but Pop does have some great perks for kids. POFQ has the min-fridge in the room, a great bar and nightly entertainer and the best: the hot tub. Pop does not have hot tubs or slides for their pools. Also the bar is outdoors and closes in the rain. Not sure if this sways you in any way but thought you should know.
The grounds are nicer at POFQ but I feel that Pop is more kid friendly.

Pop has a LOT of kids at it but it's not overwhelming if you're traveling without them. The pools and common areas have events daily for kids like the Big Wheel races or games in the pool. Guests also get really into decorating room windows, putting up signs and lining the window frames with stuffed Disney friends. It's a great place for a mid-day break while still feeling like your immersed in Disney with all the oversized icons.

Maximum persons per Disney All Start Resort Family Suites: 6 (plus child under age 3 in crib)

We dont have any one under 3.

Having stayed at both, I would say FQ is worth the extra money. Even though we are now DVC members, DS16 still asks when we can stay at POFQ again. Its my favorite moderate.

Before becoming DVC'ers we stayed at value's and FQ..i would choose FQ anytime. That is actually my favorite resort (outside of the villas). My kids loved the pool, loved taking the boat to DTD, the food court was good and never crazy busy, and the busses were always good..and its a nice small resort!

Irrelevant. The maximum occupancy as stated by Disney is 6 for the family suites. If you're sneaking a seventh person in then that's entirely up to you but it does violate your agreement with Disney to stay within their occupancy limits. Try listing 7 people on your next reservation in the suites and you'll see that it's not allowed.

Now to answer the original question.

I love both Pop and POFQ for different reasons. If we're doing a budget trip and will be eating a lot of QS meals then hands down we'll stay at Pop. If we want a more relaxed trip and we'll be eating more TS meals then we'll stay at POFQ. The new queen beds certainly does add to our wish to return there.

Christmas 2009 I did some math comparing free dining at Pop vs free dining at POFQ. They had already changed free dining to be QSDP at values. We're a family of 4 Disney Adults. When adding the price of upgrading dining to basic DDP plus the cost of a fridge, it was almost the same price to stay at POFQ as it was to stay at Pop so it seemed like a no-brainer to upgrade. That's when we fell in love with POFQ. We'd now gladly stay at either, though at Pop we would DEFINITELY need an extra room because squeezing into full size beds is difficult. Will you feel comfortable with only 2 rooms at Pop or will you need 3 so that adults can have their own beds?

Has anyone tried POR??? Im wondering what thats like compared to POFQ??

Now re: POP & POFQ...since POFQ has queen beds now, i would go for that one to be honest. Its a bit more comfy than sleeping on double beds/full beds.

We were originally booked at POP for our May trip, but since I found out about the FQ refurb to queen beds, it took me about a minute to decide to upgrade.

We do spend a lot of time at the resort, so having a tranquil resort is important. Brand new rooms, queen beds, fridge, two sinks, boat to DTD, the quick walk to POR (which is one of my favorites) and we can also use the POR pool.

It was a no-brainer for us.

  All of this, plus an in room coffee pot. I will never stay anywhere but POFQ again. I was lucky enough to get one of the renovated rooms in January. The queen beds were amazing. Plus, having a brand new room with fresh everything. The river is beautiful. It's a very laid back, relaxed resort and I just felt at ease and away from the Disney craziness the minute I got there.
