Rent for DCP housing

Can any former CPs tell me what you paid for rent roughly and what size place you had along with where you stayed? Did you like your place? Were some places bigger than others? And did you have to pay first weeks rent or first months rent before arriving? These are just some of the millions of questions I have. Thanks in advance!!

I haven't done it yet but according to the website rent is $80 to $108 each week depending on where you live and how many bedrooms your apartment has. Also I think when you pay the $300 acceptance deposit, $200 of that goes towards your first two weeks of rent, and the other $100 is an activity fee.

I know that Vista is the cheapest, then Chatham, then Patterson... but I don't know the pricing.

Ok i already paid that $300 fee but i just wanted to make sure nothing else was going to be pilled on right before i leave to go down there. Can someone tell me how far it is from Patterson and Chatham?

The prices depend on how many rooms you have in your apartment. A 1 or 2 bedroom apt. pays a certain amount and then the 3 and 4 bedrooms apts. pays a certain amount. Vista is the cheapest, and you can tell, and Patterson is he most expensive and you will see that too.

I lived in a 2 bedroom in Chatham and paid $98 a week.
That $80 one would be a 3 or 4 bedroom at Vista. etc etc...

I wouldn't worry too much about it though. It doesn't make a different. Just choose the apt. complex you feel you'd like best and if you have to "pay extra" for that happiness, than so be it. I loved Chatham and would never move to Vista just because it was cheaper.

My daughter is in a three bedroom in Chatham right now and pays $85 per week. Last fall she was in a three bedroom at Vista and paid $79 per week.

I have seen both places and Chatham is MUCH nicer and bigger than Vista.

Oh yes, I would never choose Vista, but I don't want to discourage people either. Chatham is definitely the best though.

Ok. Thank you for all the information! I think I will be going for a 2 or 3 bedroom at Chatham. From what I have read the bus stops are at Chatham can some one confirm or deny this? Also how far is it from Patterson to Chatham?

There are bus stops at Vista, the Commons, and Chatham. People from Patterson have to use the bus stop at Chatham, which is only a three minute walk since they are both right next to each other. I'm planning on staying at Patterson (I stayed at both Chatham and Patterson, and think Patterson is so much nicer).

ok thank you! someone earlier said that they liked Chatham the best, and you said you liked Patterson more. Can you guys give me some of the pro's and con's of each place??

It's really pretty equidistant for the bus stops for Chatham/Patterson- not enough to make a significant difference at ALL. If you live in the back of Chatham, you could be walking farther to get to the bus stop than some places in Patterson. Don't let that influence you.

Personally, I lived in a 3BR and a 2BR in Patterson. I had friends who lived in Vista and Chatham and saw their apartments, but Patterson is soooo much nicer/cleaner/newer and just doesn't have the "dirty" feeling the others do (even Chatham...I think it's the green carpets that did it for me). The kitchens are also ridiculously nice in Patterson- everything was brand new and sparkling, and the carpets are beige/not heinous. For me, it was ABSOLUTELY worth the extra bit out of my paycheck for the nicer living- after all, you're there for (at least) 5 months- better to love coming home than to dread it. Just my .02, though

This is what I wrote on another thread and hope that it helps...

In both programs, I had continuously heard the complexes given theses nicknames by most of my fellow cps:

-Vista Way: the ghetto (a lot of parties, drinking, drugs, very noisy and busy because of the buses, the oldest apartments and also the only apartments that does not have balconies, smallest bedrooms and bathrooms, close to some restaurants and Walgreens, very social, and the least expensive)
-Chatham Square: the suburban ( a mixture of quiet peaceful days with a couple of parties happening every so often, the biggest bedrooms, a nice pool, a 10 minute walk to Publix and Walgreens, the second oldest but still seems new and clean)
-Patterson Court: the retirement home ( quiet and calm almost every day, the newest apartments, the biggest living rooms, the biggest balconies, a car wash area (just bring soap), air conditioned laundry rooms, a nice fireplace with soft lounge chairs right next to the pool, a 10 minute walk to Publix and Walgreens, no bus stop-you have to take a 2-3 minute walk to Chatham to catch the bus, the most expensive)
-The Commons (for CPRs): party city (only for CPRs, the outlet mall is across the street, some of the apartments are two stories, each apartment have their own washer and dryer for laundry)

I always laugh when I hear theses nicknames. I stayed in both Chatham and Patterson and personally I prefer Patterson. Chatham was great, but I thought Patterson was nicer only because they were newer. I love the kitchen, it was way nicer than Chatham or Vista. And I agree with the person above me about the carpets. The carpets at both Vista and Chatham were a nasty green that looked dirty, while the one at Patterson was a nice beige that looked brand new.I love peace and quiet most of the time, so that is why I picked Patterson. I'm not the party type, so I tended to stay away from Vista. Vista also doesn't have any apartments with balconies which I didn't like because sometimes I like to sit outside on the balcony and read or watch the beautiful lighting storms. If you are lucky, you might get the apartment in Patterson where you can actually watch the fireworks at Disney from your balcony. I was lucky enough to get that apartment. It was amazing! If I get accepted, I am going to chose Patterson again. It's only a few dollars difference (like $1-$2) between each complex anyway.

When I worked at a summer camp I lived in a house with 11 other girls that had crooked floors and a chipmunk that lived in a hole behind the toilet, among other great features. And I've been in crappy dorms with problems ranging from doors that don't close to major flooding. So my point is...I can deal with some dinginess and lots of roommates if it means saving an extra 10 to 20 dollars a week. Plus, I like living in a very social, energetic environment. Too much quiet makes me crazy.

So am I the only one?

I want Vista Way too but for the money it's hard to beat Chatham and Patterson. But the good thing is I wouldn't be disappointed with any apartment I get.

How many ppl/bedroom? and when ppl say "1-2 or 3-4 bedroom apt" does that mean you can choose 1 OR 2 bedrooms or that if you choose "1-2" bedroom you'll be assigned whether it's 1 or 2? (If that makes any sense)

You can choose how many rooms you want 1-4 I think either Vista has no one room or no 4 rooms I forget. But the other 2 have all of the room options available.

It's 2 people per bedroom no matter what though.

Chatham has 1-4 bedrooms.
Patterson has 1-3 bedrooms.

It depends on who you are, if you're a party-go'er then Vista fits the bill. I personally don't go to parties and need quiet. Once you live with neighbors that party loudly until 3am almost each weekend, peace and quiet is a must lol. I am a frugal person, but I know that I would rather choose Patterson because of how quiet it is not because of how new it is.
