DD broke her Itouch screen!

I've scratched my screen and they've replaced it..... wonder why they wouldn't replace a broken one??

It's worth taking it to the Apple store and asking. DD11 dropped the Ipod touch she got for Christmas and shattered the bottom corner of the screen. DH took it to the apple store yesterday and they gave him a new one free! The guy told him it was a one time exception.

I'd ask.

AppleCare covers manufacturer's defects and software problems that are out of the consumer's control. That's what you paid for...not accidental damage which can result from dropping it, or sitting on it, or having it bang up against something that cracked the screen.

Broken screens are most often accidental damage, and you'd need a different type of warranty for that. SquareTrade warranties allow you to add the accidental damage option to warranty purchases, which is what I used for my daughter's iPod. She could drop it in a bucket of water and it will get replaced under warranty.

But that's not through Apple.

msmayor: That is exactly what they told me when I called. I believe its to late to get a warrenty w/SquareTrade. Next time I will purchase w/them instead.

The same thing happened to me, but with my iPhone when I had the first one that came out. I dropped it several times, gave it water damage on Splash Mountain (I stuck it in my pocket instead of inside my purse.. whoops!), and they replaced it for free! It was impressive, but the Apple guy seemed kind of disgusted with me

Thank You Guys!!! You Rock!! I would of never have DH take DD to the Apple store of it wasn't for my favorite Diser's!!

They just did the same for my DS with his Itouch that he got for Christmas. He dropped it and cracked the screen. They replaced it for free and sold him a cover for $35.00. It was well worth the $35.00. When he called, he was told he would have to pay $149.00 plus shipping to return it to him. I am so glad he went to the actual store. That was very nice of them!

I'm so glad they replaced it. I was researching online the best way to get hers repaired and read a post about taking it back to the store and telling them the sad tale of how it got broken (she was fooling around and it fell off her lunch box ) . Then it said they'd probably say no anyway.

I figured it was worth asking after I read that when they upgraded the touch screens they became 200% more fragile I think they're probably getting a lot of them returned for repair!

I have not had this happen, but my understanding is that if you call they will tell you no every time, but if you go to the store they will do a replacement 1 for free if you are in the first year of purchase.

it REALLY depends on who is there when you go. Some times is covered sometimes it not. The "warranty" does not cover broken screen(cracked glass)/

My niece broke her iPod Touch screen last month (purchased in Nov) and her Touch was replaced for free at the Apple Store. They did not have any extra coverage (AppleCare).
