Here's the deal, I am planning a vacation to WDW in May. I got the FD pin plus we're due for a vacation. Only problem is that my Mom is scheduled to have surgery some time in May. She will know more the beginning of April. And while the surgery isn't life threatening there are some risks associated with it. If they schedule her for surgery while we are supposed to be in FL, I would rather re-schedule my vacation until later.

My final payment for my WDW portion is due April 2nd. And like I said, my Mom's surgery isn't scheduled until the beginning of April.

If I re-schedule my WDW dates after April 2nd do I get a penalty?

What if we decide to make our WDW stay shorter and thus reducing out package price? Is there a penalty then? (if we do this after April 2nd)

What about if I scheduled our stay at WDW for fewer days and then added additional days later?

Here's what I found:

When booking a Vacation Package:

You must pay a $200 deposit within 14 days of reserving your package. The final payment of the entire remainder is due 45 days prior to check-in. You have to pay in full right away if you are booking less than 45 days in advance.
You can change or cancel your reservation without penalty up until 45 days in advance. From 6 to 44 days in advance, there is a cancellation fee of $100. If you cancel 5 days or less in advance, you pay a $200 penalty.
Any changes that result in a rate change, such as applying a discount code, reducing number of days and/or changing to a differently-priced resort, made 45 days or less prior to arrival, are subject to a $50 fee.
Please Note: WDTC usually adds nonrefundable travel insurance to your package by default. If you don't want this you will need to tell them while you are making the reservation. Once you hang up, it's too late.

There is a $50 change fees that Disney can hit you with if you change your reservation with less than 44 days to go. They usually do not impose it if you are making a change that results in the package costing more money or if you are postponing your vacation until a later date.

If you make your reservation for fewer days and then try to extend it later you could run into the problem where there are no rooms available under the pin code at your resort for the dates that you want to add.

Is it possible to just change your vacation to a later date now and avoid all of this stress?

We'd like to do it in May as soon as school is out so we can beat some of the summer crowd. We have no desire to go during the summer. Also, DD turns 3 in August so we're trying to go before that as it will be a little cheaper since we won't have to purchase park tickets for her yet.
