What NOT to pack?

Hey there! I'll be heading down for the CP in June, and though it's early, I'm thinking about my packing list! I was just wondering from former CPs if there's anything you brought that you really shouldn't have, that you had no use for, especially anything from the packing list recommended by Disney. I'm 99% certain I'll be flying so the less I can bring the better!

If you're flying just take clothes and go to Walmart the night you check in or before check in to get your bed sheets and shoes (if you know which ones to get) honestly you don't need much. All the expensive stuff is there. You can go to Walmart/Walgreens and get pretty much everything you need after you get there just get your clothes and jewlery make up whatever you ladies need :P and take them down there! It's what I plan on doing this time around. Don't worry about a TV someone else will bring one unless you get an apartment where everyone flys down which probably won't happen.

I brought a bunch of stuff to do on my downtime, like a lot of movies/games/instruments, and didn't really use any of them. I spent most of my time in the parks and stuff. So if that sounds like you, don't bother with it.

Bring half as many clothes as you think you will need. You only have 3 drawers in a dresser and then some closet space. I spent most of my time wearing my costume or pajamas and there was a ton of stuff I brought down with me that I never wore.

People overpack like hell, you can even get cheap TVs down there from Cast Connection if you've got a car or a friend with a car to help you pick it up. Honestly all you need is clothes, swimsuit, shoes, and your cell/mp3/laptop/camera. That's really it. If you have the space bring towels and sheets and stuff, if you don't, buy em cheap at wally world.

My roommate brought her Wii, and I think we used it twice haha. You are going to be so busy you won't have much extra time.

Ooooh, I'm not really sure what CP is, but I think so. Are you going to be dressing up as a princess or character for one of the parks/resorts? I would actually LOVE to try my hand at being a character.

Sorry if this isn't what you are doing....but it made me excited thinking about it.

Oh and I am new so don't hurt me! :sad2:

CP stands for college program and while being a character is a role option, I don't think the original poster specified what role she has.

Anyway, I'm glad to find this thread and read about how little to bring. It hurts my soul to hear that I won't need that many clothes though. I LOVE CLOTHES!!! haha. I had a feeling that'd be the case though since most of the time will be spent in costume working. Still debating on whether or not I should bring a tv.

I know I'm not bringing my TV, I watch everything on my laptop anyways. Too much else to do anyways besides sit and watch TV! hah. I'm not going to bother bringing a router either in case someone else does, and if not I'll gladly chip in a few bucks towards one.

I also plan to do a lot of thrift store shopping while down there so I need to pack at little as possible to have room in my car on the way home. Hah. I'm not sure about the immediate area, but about an hour away is a thrifting goldmine! I'm such a nerd.

If you an ethernet cord. Is there more than one ethernet port in the apartment? Or can only one person be hooked up to the internet at one time? In my dorm there are 2 ethernet ports so me and my roommate can both be hooked to the internet at the same time.

If you want to freely move around the apartment with your laptop, get a router. There are connecters in each room and one in the living room for Ethernet cords, if you prefer them. I'm personally bringing a router just because I have a Ipad and I can't connect it to a Ethernet cord (I have a laptop too that I prefer to freely move around the apartment with). If you want, you can talk to your roommates to see if they are willing to chip in for a router. I'm also bringing my T.V. In my last program, there was a lot of days where I just wanted to relax at home after a long 10 hour shift and watch a movie or T.V show. Also, when I am getting ready for work, I tend to have the T.V on in the background. My roommates and I also had a lot of movie nights. Yes, there is a lot of things to do in Disney, but when the parks are closed and you are tired from a long day from work, you tend to stay home on those days.

Back on topic, you don't have to bring down any game consoles, unless you are a big gamer. I brought my playstation 2 last time and only played games on it once. I only used it to watch movies. My roommate brought her playstation 3 and only used it to watch movies as well. Concerning clothes, it's based on your personality. I love clothes and brought a lot down. I used every article of clothes I had. I would come home from work and usually changed into regular clothes. And I always dressed up when I went out. So, it's up to your judgement on how much clothes to bring. For girls, don't bother to bring down high heels. You won't ever get a chance to wear them. When I dressed up for the clubs and even the Winter Formal, I wore cute flats. They are way more comfortable to dance in and looks cute with dresses.

How much clothes would you say to bring for classes? It has to be professional clothes right? And what kind of shoes do they ask for? I usually have a hard time looking for shoes because I have small feet, I am a size 5 and everytime I check the women's shoes section and it goes from size 6 and up. I usually end up going to the kids section haha! Does it matter if they are regular sneakers, but with no colors?

You really don't need that much for classes. I brought far more then I really needed. You only meet once a week so you can re-wear things and no one will know (or really care). 2 pairs of pants and some different shirts and cardigans and you will be good. If your more into dresses or skirts then you can even cut down more. I realize that probably makes no sense but if you have like 5 full business casual outfits you will probably be fine for everything, traditions and classes.

As for shoes... are you talking about for work or for like classes? You couldn't wear sneakers for class since they aren't business casual. For work as long as they are the correct color for your costume its fine if they are regular sneakers. In general it has to be without embellishments, logos, and all one color. For some roles they have to be non-slip and for others it doesn't really matter although it never hurts. I know what you mean about difficulties in finding shoes. My sister has tiny feet too and I remember going into into stores with her and just asking for whatever heels they have in a 5.5. lol.

Yes, I was asking about the work shoes. And thanks for the answer! I know how your sister feels, if I find a shoe I like I don't ask for size, I ask them "what's the smallest size you have?" LOL! I guess it really depends on the costume. Most of my sneakers have the logo, so I guess once I do the program I have to look for shoes. Or I can start looking now; thinking ahead is always good lol.

My best friend just went outlet shopping when she was down there.

Remember 5 days a week you are wearing a costume....sweatpants/shorts morning night.... 2 days at parks most of the time...and a few nights out.

She regretted packing pillow/blankets. Get them down there!

I'm going to have to do this for myself at some point this summer so I might as well start now. I also think I'll put a blog up with some of this info/advice.

Things to know: This is in my girl perspective, but the same should go for guys. I live in Florida and I have been a CP before.

That being said, I tried to go head to toe and make a complete list on what and what not to pack. Things in bold are no-nos. You want to make he most out of less, so bring neutrals and things you can mix and match and you'll be set.

Beauty/U]
1. Flat Iron, Bobby Pins, Hair ties
2. Make Up basics, for when it's not 90 degrees out.
3. One basic piece of each type of jewelery. You most likely wont be allowed to wear it at work, so bring basic stud earrings, one multi outfit necklace, bracelet, etc... this is also true because you'll end up buying jewelery with mickey on it :P

shoes
1. one pair flip flops, neutral color or one pair sandals, neutral color
3. one pair dressy-er shoe, like flats
4. one pair sneakers ( not for work)
5. no socks...yet. since most likely you'll be asked to wear all white or all black socks with you're uniform, don't waster you're space, and just buy a pack in the color you need once you know.

tops
1. one blouse, for class and traditions
2. 5 or so t-shirts that matches many different things
3. 3 or so tank tops
4. cardigan or blazer
5. light jacket
6. one long sleeved shirt
7. bathing suit
note: it does get cold in central florida, you will need a jacket. and just like everything else. you'll collect disney shirts over time.

bottoms
1. 2 pairs of shorts, one denim, one cotton ( like khakis )
2. jeans!
3. black (easiest color ) slacks/trousers/ a skirt for traditions and class
4. flowy skirt
5. tights to go with skirt on cooler days
6. one neutral belt

Bedroom & Bathroom
1. NO: Soap, Shampoo/Conditioner, rug, toilet paper, cleaning products, towel, toothpaste. although you'll need it all, it's heavy and bulky and can wait until you're down.
2. toothbrush :D
3. 2 or 3 unframed photos from home to fight homesickness. you'll end up with disney frames. don't worry :P

Random
1. Stickers or Labels: Sure you can buy them when you're down, but if you want to purchase over time for the sake of not spending a large amount of $ at once, do this now and out them aside. You'll need then to sort of mark which things are yours in the fridge and pantry, just so there's no confusion.
2. A backpack. You'll need this for class, visiting the parks, going to work, trips to the pool, etc...
3. On that note, put a few pens and a notebook in there.
4. I brought my T.V. even if you aren't the biggest t.v. watcher, you'll need a movie day with friends, or need to see the news once and a while. Let's just say, my roommates and I saw live when Kanye busted the whole " Ima let you finish..." bit . LOL.
5. All your electronics and their cords.
6. a combo lock ( like from high school). there are lockers in your closet, and maybe at work, for you to put valuables in. I didn't worry about my laptop, but my passport was in there all 6 months.
7. Appropriate Pajamas/Comfy wear
8. bed sheets. but no pillow.
9. lanyard/ something sturdy for your keys and ID etc...
