My daughter will be 13 next week!! :scared1: :goodvibes Time definitely flies as you get older!

She traded a big party with her friends for a trip to an Anime convention that we did in February - but - of course - we won't let the day go by without something! She needed a new desk and we went to Ikea last weekend - so that is set up and being used - I've gotten her a few knick-knack things for her desk, etc. but - I'm looking for something SPECIAL - to mark her "teen" years!

I would love to hear your ideas!! Maybe 13 of something? I'm at a loss! Did you (or your Mom) do something special for your 13th?

She's not a girly-girl - Hot Topic is her favorite store - if that helps! ;) I'm just looking for something special that she will always remember - something she can keep - that she can say she got for her 13th birthday!

Thanks guys!!

My sister turns 13 this year too!

Something DBF and I are doing is a "teenage survival kit". In it, we have a guide, bath fizzies, make-up, and other stuff. We are putting it all in a box that we bought that will double as a memory box.

My DS just turned 13 in Feb and I did a Movie outing with friends and then back to house for pizza/candy buffet. Lots of different types of candy in different containers. It was a great hit! Good Luck! :goodvibes

I could have written this exact post except my DD will be 13 in April! She went to the Katsucon (anime convention) in DC over President's day weekend and is not into girly stuff. She doesn't like the all the attention on her and would rather do something with her BFF instead of a huge party with all her friends. I am still at a loss of how to celebrate her birthday, but her big present is a new laptop and a debit card in her name (not a prepaid one from a store).

We were at Katsucon too!! Sounds like our girls have a lot in common! Are you going to be at Otakon? That's the next convention she's trying to talk us into!

I found this on Amazon (it's a Bradford Exchange piece) - this is right up her alley - and there are others in the series that I could buy her for future occasions.

Thanks for all of the ideas!

She is having one friend over to spend the night for her b-day weekend - we're going to a Japanese Steak House for dinner, then either go to or rent a movie or go skating or bowling - she hasn't decided exactly what she wants to do yet.

Love to hear more about the debit card - any info would be much appreciated!

My daughter will also be 13 in April. She's having a sleepover with 6-8 girls. We're going to dinner and then back to the house for movies. She and I, along with my mom and sister, are going on a girls' trip to New York the end of May after school's out. We're going to see Mary Poppins and Wicked while there, and that will be most of her gift. However, to have something to give her on her actual birthday, I'm ordering a sterling silver necklace from Tiffany. It will be a keepsake and will commemorate our big NYC trip.

Otakon, I haven't heard about this one yet?!? I guess I'll go look it up, LOL. The next one I'd planned on was Baltimore Comic Con in August...

The figurine is adorable! I might have to do something along that line for DD, that way we can add to it every year.

I've been researching the debit card because DD has been getting alot of cash or checks for birthdays and Christmas. I hate her walking around with a ton of cash, so I want to get her a debit card that can be used just like ours (at an ATM or at the store). I was looking at opening her a checking account, but our bank doesn't offer one for 13-15. I think I'm going to go with Visa Buxx card either through US Bank or Navy Federal (must be a member). With US Bank you do not have to have an account with them.

Otakon is in Baltimore at the end of July... we were told it's Katsucon on Red Bull! Evidently much bigger! Baltimore's Comic Con is new for me! So...I've learned something too!

Thanks for the debit card info - going to check that out!

Lynce - Great idea about the basket - I like the idea of lots of little things! Great job! Thinking I'll do the same with a cool container of some sort... off to think about that!

Band Mom! We did a candy buffet two years ago - the girls LOVED it! I still hear from those that were there about all of the candy we had.

BamaGirl - love, love the NY idea! If we weren't going to Baltimore in July - it would definitely be NY! I hope you guys have a wonderful girls trip!

party::bday: To all of your girls!

How about a special "adult" night inviting 2-3 friends(or just family adults). Dress up, rent a limo, go to a special restaurant, and then maybe go to play, a museum, or show of some sort. Last stop before home would be a hot chocolate from Starbucks:goodvibes
