Wisconsin Dells in March

We're heading to the WI Dells for a few nights next week. I know it's "off-season" still but the waterpark is indoors

We're staying at Mt Olympus/Hotel Rome.

I'm looking for advice on restaurants, other activities besides the water park at Mt. Olympus (the cheaper the better of course), and possibly local ski resorts that'll still be open.

Also- Mt. Olympus now includes free golf. Golf in March in WI isn't something I'd normally consider but I'd bring our clubs if someone tells me it's a great course or it's not as bad as I'm thinking

A lot of the restaurants, attractions and shops in town will not be open yet.

There is Cascade Mountain a bit south on I94 and Christmas Mountain to ski.


I'm not sure if any of the golf is open yet. We were just at our lake house in the area this past weekend and there is still snow on the ground.

If you like to gamble, there is Ho Chunk Casino. They have a daycare area for children.


Just checked the websites and Christmas Mountain is closed for the season. Cascade doesn't say but there "snow cam" shows snow on the hills.

MooseJaw pizza is good. Famous Dave's is BBQ and is cheap and really good. As far as cheap things, don't count on it!!! They do have a Tanger outlet mall there, dress warm since it's outdoors to get into each store. Don't bother bringing your clubs. We just got a few more inches of snow and the ground would be so hard that you would be wasting space in your vehicle. The downtown area is a major tourist trap, but they do have some good candy shops and you can watch them make taffy.

If you're hungry, Moosejaw has reallllly good pizza. Their other food looked fantastic as well. Buffalo Phil's also has great food and it's connected with Knuckleheads indoor bowling/amusement park. Kids will love it. There is also Paul Bunyans which isn't amazing food, but it's a fun atmosphere.

There is also the Tanger Outlet mall which is pretty nice if you need anything.

Leave your golf clubs at home.

Golf doesn't start here typically until end of April or later.

Many of the stores/restaurants won't be open. They don't open until around Memorial Day, when the hordes of people start coming back.

Moosejaw Pizza is good and so is Buffalo Phil's (which I see other people have mentioned ).

There is a cute Denny's that looks like an old diner out near Buffalo Phil's and the Tanger outlet mall.

Paul Bunyan in the Dells is closed until March 18th.

We went there last March & this past February. We always buy a condo package off of Ebay (MUCH cheaper than just getting a regular old room & that way we have our own kitchen to save on food costs). The condos are AMAZING at the Wilderness and there's a ton to do there... everything is included in the price of the room and it comes out to be about the same as getting a regular room. I highly recommend that place. If you have time, do the timeshare presentation one morning and you'll make an instant $50, get free breakfast & another free vacation... just say no to the timeshare! lol...

Another vote for MooseJaw -- it's a HUGE restaurant, nicely decorated, with GREAT food. They have quite a variety of food too - pizza, sandwiches, dinners -- YUM!

Cascade will be open through the next week or so. Devil's head is also up there. I really wanted to get up there this year, cascade is supposed to be very nice for the area.

In general, when i am in the dells, I wish I was you-know-where. As a Wisconsin resident the only difference is the plane ticket cost and the quality. Also, more people speak English in Disney, in spite of the versatile backgrounds. Dells? good friggin luck.

Are you thinking of Monks? They have great burgers and cook them right behind the bar. You can smell fried onions down the block! They opened a location by the Wilderness, but I like the downtown one better.

im sorry to distract from the OP, it's something like a foreign exchange program ... like kids come over to go to school and then stay a bit to work. Lot's of Russians and Swedes. Pretty not much on the English though.

One time my girl and i were walking downtown and a payphone started to ring, so i walked towards it because im weird like that. Just as I went to pick it up a Russian man on a bicycle flew between me and the phone and shouted "IS FOR ME!" and then began to converse with the person on the other end in Russian. It was surreal.

We were just there this week. Our kids favorite restaurant was Buffalo Phil's. Ask to sit in the train room & a model train will deliver your drinks & food. It's not cheap but it was good food & lots of fun.

I cut costs by bringing breakfast/lunch food with us to eat in the room. We stayed at Great Wolf and had a microwave & fridge in our room. We ended up eating just 2 meals out - made it easier to justify the costs at the nicer restaurants.
