Fly Lady tools... anyone use them?

Are they worth the money? I have several things in my shopping cart, but I was wondering what my DIS friends think of them.

I have some of the flylady tools, these are my thoughts:

I like the purple microfiber cleaning cloths a lot--they are a nice size and have held up well. I have other brands of microfiber cloths that I had purchased over the years and these are by far the best. I use two of them when I am doing glass/mirrors and don't even need to use any products. I wet one and use it to wipe and then dry with the other and it works great--no streaking. I also use them instead of paper towels for almost all other cleaning. They go right into the washer and then are ready to use again. I have several sets.

I also like the rubba scrubba thing--I use one to clean out my car--it grabs all the lint and debris on the floor of the car and sweeps it right out. The car does still occasionally need to be vacuumed, but that tool cuts way down on that. I have also used one as a toilet bowl cleaner. It works well. I use the larger rubba scrubba to clean the snow off of my car--no scratches. I will say that the handle on the larger rubba scrubba broke for me pretty quickly and so I haven't used it for anything much more than snow removal.

I would give the duster mixed reviews. I like that you only need the duster and not a bunch of stuff you need to spray or stuff that you throw away, but I am not convinced that it doesn't just knock the dust onto the floor. I tend to clean top to bottom so it isn't a big deal, I get it then with the vacuum/mop, but I never have a ton of dust that needs to be shaken out of the duster the way they say you will. I did have one of the larger dusters that seemed to lose feathers every time I used it and was soon left with almost nothing. I send them an e-mail and didn't get a response. Since I had a smaller one that I didn't have problems with I bought another large one and haven't had any issues with it.

The mop is okay--not sure they sell it anymore. I like the reuseable pads, but I have a lot of hardwood floors (living room, dining room and hallways) and it seems the pads get dirty quickly and I need to use several in just one mopping (I mop the hardwood about once a week). The pads also seem come out of the mop pretty easily while I am mopping which is annoying. I have tile in the kitchen/baths and think that the steam mop does a better job there.

Although not a cleaning tool, I have the stainless steel water bottles and I love them. They keep water so cold for hours and hours and never leak and never sweat. I have three of them use 1-2 of them every day and usually all three of them on a typical summer day.

That's about all I can think of as far as what I have. I haven't been on her site for at least a year so some of those items may not even be carried anymore.

I have long curly hair and I think I shed worse than any dog! I thought the rubba sweepa and rubba scrubba might help.

I have one Rubba Scrubba and to be honest, I don't think I've ever really found the right use for it yet, despite all the zillions of ideas that people write in to her with! So that is not a winner for me, yet.

I love the purple rags though, and the water bottles.

We have a number of other things too - timer which my DD uses all the time, the calendar which we love, hand duster (that looks like a mitt) - that works well. And the water bottles are the best ever - we have 3.

I have the rubba toilet brush thing (is that the swisha?). I bought one for each of our bathrooms and I HATE them. I love flylady and trusted her testimonials but for me, it was an awful purchase. I also got the feather duster and the hand duster (the mitt that you slip on your hand). Love both of those.

Do you mind me asking what you don't like about them? I was considering these as I could use some new toilet bowl brushes. I was also considering the ones for dishes.

I do not like the rubba swisha.. My mother bought it for me last year. It is really hard, not flexible and it just doesn't clean the toilet like the regular bristle brushes. It is akward and misses most things I would like it to remove.. Hard to explain, but it is useless as far as I am concerned. If it was soft like a toilet brush usually is then I think it would work great, but it is really stiff.

Purplepixie's response is exactly what I would put. I hate to get rid of mine because they were more expensive than the ones I can get at Walmart, but the truth is, they just don't work. I'm going back to the plain old bristle brushes.

I recently purchased a Rubba Swisha toilet brush and I like it. I used it with a little borax and thought it worked well, but haven't really tried it on a toilet that needs a good amount of scrubbing yet. I may have to get back to you on that one. My DD 10 likes using it so I think I will turn that chore over to her now.

I also bought the Rubba Scrubba which I have used to wipe down my upstairs hallway which has outdated textured wallpaper. I removed a lot of dust that I was having a hard time getting rid of before. I also used it to swipe away dust and cobwebs off the tops of the curtains and crown moulding woodwork. Also good with the pet hair especially reaching behind funiture and in corners. I hadn't even thought of using it on the car yet.

I think I'd like to get the purple cloths next. Glad to hear they are getting good reviews. SPRING cleaning is just around the corner!
