Need help on a couple of ? for cruise

First I just want to say how incredibly excited I am!!! My family and I have been on 3 DCL cruises and I have been wanting so badly for my sister to go on a DCL cruise with me and we are finally doing it! We are taking the 3N Dream cruise to the Bahamas. I have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer for me.

First let me fill you in on who's going. Me, my DD (13), my sister, her DD (16), her DS(20). My sister is divorced from her children's father so Q1 comes into play here.

1. Being she is divorced and taking the kids will her ex have to sign some type of document saying it is okay for her to take them out of the US? If so, does this document have to be notarized?

2. She has a passport but her kids do not. Will they need a passport or is a birth certificate still okay if going to the Bahamas?

Just call DCL, but last I heard all passengers have to have a passport. I've heard cases where sometimes they required a letter, some they did not. My preference would be to have it just in case, if possible. You would hate to get to the port and they won't let the kids on because there is no letter.

I'd hate for one CM to tell you one thing and then the port agent CM says sorry, gotta have it. Better safe than sorry.

I used to work in the travel industry. I believe a notarized letter from the non travelling parent is required. It was instituted to address non custodial parents leaving the country with their child.

Sorry - everyone will now need a passport. That law was changed after 9/11.

Closed loop cruises (leaving and returning to the same US port) traveling to the Bahamas do not require a passport.
