Taking food to Atlantis waterpark

What food and/or beverages would I be able to take off of the ship to the Atlantis waterpark to help offset some off our out of pocket cost for a light lunch there?

Well, I can tell you that since my son has food allergies I have found out that we are only allowed to bring pre-packaged un-opened foods off of the ship. Also, you are not allowed to bring any food that has been opened back on the ship when you get back on.

Officially or not? This is in reference to the question. There is what you are supposed to do and what you can choose to do.

You are not supposed to take food off the ship as they cannot assure the safety of it--lack of proper refrigeration, etc. In the US, laws prohibit bringing in any fresh fruit or unprocessed foods (and this IS enforced in the US). Reality, in the Bahamas, no one inspects your bag to be sure you don't have an apple in there.

You need to follow the laws of the country where you are in port, but the ship recommendations are the US laws.

I will tell you the lunches we had were only $8.00 each and there was enough for an adult and child to share. We and a big hamburger, fries and a large drink but there may be other options.

Completely off topic, but with the law thing, I am assuming that my 20-year-old sister-in-law will be able to have a drink, even though that is not the law in the states.

The drinking age on the DCL ships is 21. It is lower in some of the countries the ships visit; while on land, the laws of that country apply.

:firefight .... I Put my FIRE/ FLAming suit on......because we were planning to bring a soft sided cooler to pack food items to take off the ship with us to the beach...My kids are SUPER picky and its easier...

Call room service the night before and ask for frozen Uncrustables, they are great because they are sealed. Be sure to request to not have them microwaved, they get all mushy. Also bring some ziploc bags with you from home and order choc chip cookies from room service and pack them too, a nice picnic lunch for everyone!

Thanks for the info, anyone else have any ideas?

My son and I have food allergies and we plan to take some of the prepackaged boxes of cereal from the breakfast buffet on our excursions..

Great idea too, can you bring on board pre-packaged items to take? I don't want to spend a fortune for food at Atlantis.

I wish I could find some menus with the prices online of some of the quick eat places, but I have had no such luck.

I guess I am just a little spoiled, but there is no way that I would go to Atlantic and eat those nasty uncrustable things that they try and pass off as sandwiches. YUCK. I don't get eating PB&J while swimming at a hotel such as Atlantic. If I couldn't afford a lunch, then I wouldn't go. But that is me.

As with everything...to each his own.....;)

some people wouldnt DARE stay in the *dungeon* like we are...but we are rarely in the room....Each family is paying for Their own vactaion, so no judgements here.....popcorn::

Yes, you can. I was just on the phone with DCL the other day regarding my son's food allergy and they actually recommended that I bring prepackaged snacks for him onboard from home. I believe it has to be factory-sealed - not just food you put in a ziplock yourself...

hth!

ETA: We are going to bring our own but also have Shirley of the Perfect Gift make up a big sandbucket "basket" for our room filled with more snacks that are safe for DS...

Thank you. I never thought about judgemental types of post would make thier way to this thread.:sad2:

While I think the uncrustables are nasty, my 8 year old considers them an essential food group. They are offered everyday as one of the 4 entree choices for lunch in his school and he chooses them 2-3 times a week. I was thrilled to find out they had them on board because I can order them to have for excursions knowing that DH and I can feel free to choose to eat wherever we want and not have to worry about finding something the kids will eat - they know they can try something new knowing PB&J is always in mom's purse for a back-up. It really makes them far more likely to try knew things when they know they won't have to either eat all of the new food or go hungry because a back-up exists if they don't like it. And if you look at the nutrition labels on those uncrustables - especially the whole wheat versions my son likes, they are really pretty healthy with whole grains, healthy fats, and a balance of proteins and carbs.

Please don't knock someone elses choices for food - there are many things that I personally don't think are all that great and wouldn't waste the calories on, but that doesn't really mean I would flame your food choices.
