Just returned home yesturday after 7 days at the World. On the way to the airport our Magical Express driver said a new park is in the works opening in about 3 years. He said it would be mainly all hi-speed thrill rides. Also said that because Disney had bought the rights to Marvel Comics from Universal some of Universals rides would be torn down (Hulk, Spider Man ect.) and put back up at the new park. Anyone else here this?

I haven't heard anything but we were wondering over Thanksgiving why the Disney stores were selling Marvel comics merchandise.

Unfortunately,ME drivers are not always the most reliable source of accurate WDW info(but they DO mean well).:)

They just bought Marvel this year.

As far as a new park goes. Doubtful for the forseeable future. They just added two new ships to their cruise operation and are in the midst of the Animation resort. Thinking it will likely be several years before they think about adding a fifth gate. One man's opinion... :confused3

ETA: Yup, I misspoke. Its been since summer of 2009 that Disney has owned the house that Stan Lee built. How time flies.

They bought Marvel awhile ago...a new park has been rumored for YEARS..not likely to happen right now with the Fantasyland expansion and the New cruise line

No one is going to tear down any rides at Universal and move them. Universal still owns those rides and also the use of those characters for as long as they wish.

As for a new park, they'd better start clearing land soon. Three years isn't all that long in themepark construction. In other words, take this with a grain of salt.

Now, when we were down there at Thanksgiving the news mention adding Australia to Animal Kingdom. I asked a few CM about this and they were wondering where it would go if they did add it on. It was interesting talking with them about this but they never let on whether this was true or not.

Tell us something we don't know about bus drivers.
As for 3 years, it takes them 3 years to do only expansion, enough said.

Marvel was acquired on 12/31/09. That's when the Marvel shareholders voted on it.

Anyway, that's a combination of a whole bunch of perpetual rumors. Usually the all thrill-ride park is billed as a Disney Villains theme park.

I've been on a DME bus where the driver couldn't even get the park hours for that day correct.

I agree with the PPs. 3 years is too short of a timeline for a new park and we will see additional expansion at the existing parks before there will be a 5th gate. There was supposed to be another section to Animal Kingdom which didn't get built. I wouldn't be surprised to see something be built there. Maybe not the Beastly Kingdom that was originally planned, but perhaps an Australian area as some have mentioned.

I've also heard rumors of additional pavillions in the WS at Epcot. Again, the original designs had a couple more pavillions than what is currently there. I see this as less likely than expansion at AK, but more likely than another park.

A bus drive told us 4 years ago that the monorail was supposed to be completed to DHS and Animal Kingdom in 3 years, which would have been last year.

but what animation resort

It's my understanding that Disney bus drivers know everything. So, I've learned never to question anything they say. I even go to them for fashion advice, parenting (tips for my niece do come in handy), and how to handle my finances and investments. Disney Bus Drivers would put an end to famine, create a framework for financial prosperity, and tell us exactly when and where our minor grumbles are welcomed and appropriate.

First of all, Magical Express is run by Mear's under contract. The drivers are not Disney employees.

Second, accoridng to extremely reliable information the contract Universal has is for the attractions which existed at the time of Disney buying Marvel will remain into perpetuity or until Universal decides to eliminate them. And Universal has a exclusive contract fotr the theme park use of those characters East of the Mississippi River in the United States.

And there is a new Resort under construcion at WDW called The Magic of Animation Art which will be a value resort and mostly suites. It will be located near Pop.

They're talking about the Art of Animation resort.

It's cute. It'll be a value resort with accommodations for bigger groups. There's supposed to be a Cars area, a little mermaid area (I think) and something else...

It's what the golden years is being turned into.

And I just noticed Cheshire beat me to it. LOL.

Oh well.

Forget a new park, just build up what they have now. Add more to DHS, AK, and a couple of spots in Epcot.

You must have been on the same bus as we were...I think the drivers name was Jose.

This is a mish mash of at least two rumors.

First as everyone has said US still owns the rights to the rides they have and are keeping them for the foreseeable future. Even if Disney acquired the rights they don't get the rides just the characters. The ride stays maybe gets repainted and becomes different themed coaster.

Second there is a proposed High speed coaster park for the area but its not a WDW park.

I think its on hold because they are trying convince the neighbors that they can control the sound pollution.
