What are the new "rules" I see mentioned? We are considering adding the QSDP to our January reservation, but I was unaware of any new rules going into effect (other than a price increase!)

I did a quick glance thru the FAQ thread, but didn't see it at the top....

Thanks!

The new "rule" being talked about is that, during the peak holiday season at select busy CS restaurants, you are not allowed to save tables while someone goes to get the food. CM's are directing entire parties to stay together while getting their food and then the CM's are directing parties to empty tables. It should not affect your January trip at all.

As far as DDP/QSDP is concerned, you will no longer get juice + beverage at CS breakfasts.

Oh that'll work out just great! Walking around with a tray full of food, beverages filled to the top and no table to sit at--yeah, I see this one working out just great! When the CS restaurant has to replace enough dropped meals because people have no where to put their stuff down and are walking through gobs of people, this won't be enforced!

From people who have been there while this has been going on, the reports have been good. I think you missed the part about CMs directing people to empty tables.

Actually this began because of what Alexander posted. People had no where to sit once they got their food because the tables were filled with human table holders.
From what little I have seen and experienced the new system works well.
And having been the person on multiple occasions who had food and no where to sit, I appreciate this.
I once finally gave my food back and got a refund because there was no where to sit and my food was cold. And others were literally hovering and pushing others aside for tables.

I can see what you're saying, but I also see the other side -- it is pure torture to stand in a long line with two restless toddlers. Much easier to send them to the table with dad while I put in the orders for the whole family.

That being said, I have never been to WDW during the crazy-busy peak times that you are speaking of. And I don't think I want to! wow!

The new rules are not enforced right now. We ate at Pecos Bills which is one with the rules Friday. We carried our trays through the entire restaurant. We finally got a table in the small room at the end by the exit near Pirates because someone was kind enough to say they were done and we could
have their table. I counted 17 tables in the room, all occupied. Only FIVE of the tables were used by people with food. We ate and as we left, I counted people at 9 of the 12 tables beng saved STILL did not have food. That means 9 families with food could have used those tables and been gone before the people wasting those tables got their food.
Statisticsfrom my visit:
Over 70% of the tables were "hogged" by people who do not have food resulting in people who do have food not getting a table.
Over 50% of the tables in our room were occupied so long that we were able to eat and move on before they got food--other families could have used that space.
If everyone is considerate and gets a table once they have food, there will be plenty available when we all need one. If you cannot manage your kids standing in line, maybe have a parent walk around outside with them.

I think you missed my point. I *can* manage my kids in line, but choose not to if there is an empty table near by. And there is always an empty table nearby because I do NOT go in the peak season.

I was simply saying that I can see both sides of the argument.

The end. Dotcom.

This type of thing was done at a more expensive cruise line we had gone on. It actually worked very well! The "hosts" for lack of a better term, would wait until we got our food on the cruise during a self serve buffet and be waiting for us at the end of the line of food. They then took us over to a table and sat us down. Worked great because they always knew the empty tables, and you were "in line" to get the next available table for the few times there wasn't one open right away. It was a great system! Worked wonders because then tables were being used for actual eating time, not just sitting around and waiting time. In the new system (for peak periods of course), instead of a table being held up for 45 minutes (figure 20 minutes on line, 25 minutes or so to eat), it would now be 20-30 minutes, more or less.

Closing this, because it is not relevant to the dining plan board and has already been done to death on the main board.

Am also going to reiterated that it appears to be effect only in SOME counter service restaurants and only at peak mealtimes during peak attendance.
