So, it's official. I just received an email from DFTW that if you have the original wedding website, you will no longer be able to use it as of January, and will have to use the Facebook site. Here's the email, with the subject heading of "Action Required on Your Disney Wedding Website":

Disney Weddings Community,

The countdown to your 'Big Day' has begun! We know you are excited about planning your event with Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings, and sharing this time with your family and friends. Happy Planning,
Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons

Let me just say that I am NOT happy about this at all. I have already tried setting up the Facebook site and already have had issues with it, and was just going to use the original site we were given. And what ticks me off even more is when they sent out our save-the-dates, they put the site address on the STD card for the original site! So, what, now people will refer to the STD and try to go to that site and they can't?! Not happy DFTW!!!

Yea I've gotten a few of those emails, which are starting to annoy me. They keep making it sound like you have to use FB. They really should've just let that be an option. :headache:

The FB app sucks, big time. I hate it, and I'm an avid facebook user.

I'm sorry to hear that you no longer have the original site.

I just got the same email. I set up my own website with a link to the Disney provided one, so I am planning on just removing that link and explaining in the newsletter I plan on sending out to just tell Disney they are booking rooms for our wedding when they make their reservations. The Disney site was pretty useless anyway, but I deff. don't plan on using the facebook website, almost none of either of our family's are on facebook anyway. I'm glad I decided to make my own website.

yeah I received the same email about two weeks ago...I think they should at least let our dates pass instead of just cancelling the micro sites...

i use facebook and i don't even understand how the new thing works! i just got this email today and clearly i didn't read the whole thing.... heh. i'm not going to use it. i'm sorry for those of you getting stuck with it. i would just like to have a disney wedding site that you could refer people to on your own website (there are so many ones out there that have cool features and graphics). you could just refer people to a place to book wedding travel/tickets and let some kind of code allow them to book things online. the feedback i've gotten from people about the DFTW site is that it makes you fill out all the options for travel and at the end says to call some number during business hours? i haven't looked myself but thats pretty lame too.

I'm in the same boat but I really don't see what the big deal is. There are so many sites out there where you can customize your own website and are more user-friendly than the ones DFTW have provided. You have all the info your guests need, just put it into a new website if you don't want to use facebook.

And honestly, even though I've had the DFTW site and my own personal site, I still have ALL my guests calling me with questions as we get closer, so I don't know how much having the websites really help :lmao:

I just received that notification too...I attempted to set up the new site via Facebook and excuse my french...IT SUCKED! DF is not on FB and never wants to sign up (he feels like he's one of the last hold outs):rotfl:. I'm at a loss and don't know what else to do since it says our microsite is closing as of JAN 2011...Our wedding is in April! Crummy timing DFTW.

I'm not on FB either. I've always felt I didn't really need a personel FB page.
There are so many things you can see on FB without even logging in.
What about all the people who still don't use FB. I think they should give the option of "either" "or" and not just offer only the FB site.

I just heard back from our planner. Basically everyone needs to have a FB account to access the new sites. They have to add the DFTW app and enter their email addresses etc. to receive updates. I know alot of our guests do not and will not open an FB account including DF. We'll be using a free wedding site and including the information and links on there. This is highly disappointing.

The big deal is that DFTW put the website on the STDs they sent out for us, and it bugs me that now they are getting rid of it. And I don't have the time (or the patience) to set up my own website. Why can't they just let those of us that have it, keep it?

This is my issue too. Not everybody is on FB and wants to set up an account. And I've already tried setting up the FB DFTW site, and I sent out invites to people, and NOBODY got the invites!! So after that, I said to heck with it.

I know they're trying to phase out the old site and be more "modern" and "hip" with the whole FB thing, but I really wish they would just let me keep my old site. The reason I like it so much is because of it's simplicity. I didn't really want a website in the first place, but when we heard we would get one already set up for us, we really liked that, and it was one less thing I'd have to deal with.

Whatever, this is the only bump in the road so far with DFTW for me. Other than that, things have been great!

DF is a computer programmer, and he is so disappointed with everything Disney that is tech related. The DFTW web site is set up poorly, the FB app doesn't work right, we've had problems submitting our questionnaire, etc. We both thought they would be better in this area.

That sucks! I bought my own domain not long ago, and made our own website. It's what I'll be using.

That explains why they haven't released the discounted park tickets yet. Any one with the new FB site know if the tickets are available on there?

with only a month to go until the new year, you'd think that next years tickets would be available for purchase :headache:

I am so frustrated with DFTW. They could offer a free wedding website like brides.com or mywedding.com does with all that info but at a Disney web address. It stinks that they are forcing people to have facebook. I'm sorry but my grandparents and my Aunt are not web savvy, especially with applications like that so it isn't really a helpful tool. I don't feel like a very valued customer because they didn't think to allow the sites for the weddings that are up coming to stay and slowly phase over?! Grrr, so sorry you are going through the frustration and the misinformation that is given to your guests. Just know that there are several of us right there with you.
