Thoughts on my visit to Boardwalk Inn--- I didn't know how this whole trip was going to go, since I was taking my Mother, with moderate Alzheimer's. It was also the first Disney trip we have taken (and we started in 1973), with just the two of us. Family or friends have always gone with us, but this time I was unsure how things would go because of her disease, and didn't want to slow anyone else down.

The people at Boardwalk are totally amazing. Anita, Linda, Lorenzo (those 3 especially), Jackie, Pete---every last one of them. They are all so pleasant and "real". They really do make you feel at home, and as if you are all part of a family. My grandkids want me to take them to Poly next year---I'll compromise, and give them a Poly/BWI split stay. I could not stand being here and not staying at Boardwalk.

Had a wonderful boardwalk view, and this trip is the first where we spent a lot of time out on the balcony. Some people complain about the size of the balcony, but the two of us comfortably spent hours out there. Loved watching the EPCOT fireworks from the club balcony---and could see the Magic Kingdom fireworks from my own balcony! (had a 4th floor room)

Who in heavens name was complaining about Disney cutting down the amount of food offered in the lounges? Breakfast is always oatmeal, 2 kinds of cereal, croissants, fresh fruit, 2 kinds of bagels, pastries (at least 2 kinds), and muffins. Those chocolate chip muffins and the blueberry muffins were delicious!

Afternoon snacks were fishy crackers, chocolate covered almonds, chocolate covered raisins, 2 types of cookies, and the home made chips, along with canned drinks and lemonade and iced tea.

Evening appetizers were fresh veggies with dip, humus, pita bread, crackers, cheeses, 3 types of Greek salad, and 2 different hot offerings. I have no idea what some of the hot things were, but---I am not an adventurous eater, and I loved them. The pot stickers were fabulous.

Evening desserts? I know there were 3 types of wine and 3 types of beer offered. Food varied from rice krispie treat, the caramel apple things, cookies, cheesecakes (the key lime was to die for), delicious chocolate cupcakes, canoli, chocolate covered strawberries, and some other types of chocolate. Plenty of choice.

Someone once said that the staff members watch and make you uncomfortable to get too much food. Not here!

Rooms were always clean, and housekeeping did a wonderful job replinishing everything. I always like turndown service, with the taffy and the card left on the pillow, and all the dirty towels replaced, trash emptied, etc.

Big River Grille seemed to be having plumbing problems a couple of days when we were there, and was closed. Used Boardwalk to Go kiosk once, and the food was surprisingly good. Went to the quiet pool on the Inn side a couple of times---no one there but me, which was wonderful.

Transportation was much better this time than last---before , we often made stops at Swan, Dolphin, Yacht and beach. This time, it was just Swan/Dolphin, and on the return trips, Boardwalk was always the first stop.

It did surprise me that the "A" was burned out on the huge "The Boardwalk" sign that burns over the Villa side, and was never fixed. Must be something major. Everything else in the hotel and on the boardwalk was pristine and working.

Disney was doing computer updates while we were there, so there were plenty of managers and suits running around on the floor. I made sure to praise the staff members whenever I could.

Although Mom and I made it to all the parks, and did most of the park things I wanted to do, I did plan a lot of resort time this trip--in fact, this is the most time we have spent just staying at the resort. I enjoyed it so much, and I know she did as well. Very relaxing, great environment, special people. I miss them already.

We are finally at the 10 day mark...Yippeeee!!! Since we are staying CL, is it necessary, suggested and/or a good idea to do on-line check in? I am not too worried about what room we get, I would like a full balcony and it is on my reservation as my only request.

Your thoughts and advice will be greatly appreciated.....:goodvibes

Our plans are coming together nicely. :) I received an e-mail from AKL IPO on Monday. I phoned them on Thursday to put in my first batch of requests. I sent an e-mail Thursday evening and received an immediate reply, which surprised me because it was outside of their normal business hours.

Many of our dining arrangements are still up in the air so I may just do those myself. Hopefully IPO will be able to secure the reservations I have requested, because they are for large parties at specific times.

We are staying AKV-CL in June too! Our dates are 6/4-11 then we move to Vero for 3nts. What are your dates?

jackemail-Welcome home and a wonderful review of our favorite place in the World. You couldn't have said it any better regarding the staff and the food!:cool1:

Thanks for posting that wonderfull and detailed trip report. Plus I got to say after reading it got me even more excited for my upcoming Boardwalk Inn Club Level stay in a few weeks.

Should I be worried that I have not been contacted by BC club level staff for our January trip? Does anyone have the email?

Does anyone know if you can get wine in the club lounge at AKL after 7 but before they close at 10. The drink at that time is listed at premium cordials...Thanks!

I would think you could get wine if you asked, but I have never tried. I know the day I asked for an Uncrustable for DS prior to the time of day they usually set them out the lady was most UNhelpful, so now I don't count on being able to get things outside of the times listed. And it wasn't that I was upset that I couldn't get one - I could have trotted down to Mara or Zawadi and bought one. It was more the way it was handled.

Today we got an e-mail from Xio from the Boardwalk IPO asking us if we still wanted our request of a Half a Grapefruit since my mom has one each morning with breakfast. Well I was trying to remember when did we even request this and then I remembered that I mentioned it on that sheet of questions which they e-mailed us a few months ago. So basically I had forget all about it and getting that e-mail from them today was great.

I'm pretty sure Xio was the CM who contacted us regarding our YC/CL stay in August.

I remember you mentioning that your mom always has half a grapefruit at the CR. It's a good thing you're training them over at the BWI, too:laughing:.

Are you doing a split stay at the CR in December? They are completely booked around Christmas, but none of the other deluxes seem to be. Must be a convention that blocked out many rooms:confused3

No we are staying the whole time at the Boardwalk. Back around the end of August and early September the Contemporary had some Atrium Club - Bay Lake View rooms available on the Fall/Winter Room Only and Annual Pass rates, however for whatever reason we didn't switch or decide to do another split stay. Then eventually under all discounted rates and rack rates, the Contemporary has been 100% sold out for our dates next month which is from December 9 - 23. So I am assuming it must be a convention or people just decided to stay there when we will be there.

Doh. I guess the hotel will be busy and packed while we are there. =(

Well, your room won't:laughing:, so don't worry about it. As long as you have some ADRs, you'll be fine. You can always hop on the boat and seek refuge by a fireplace at the WL, they're not fully booked;)

Well the Contemporary is always busy 365 days a year with guests just going there to eat at the California Grill, Chef Mickey's and The Wave. Now if it's a convention group that has taken up a lot of their rooms chances are they will be in meetings all day on the 2nd floor or inside the convention center, so who knows if you might even see them.

I have had several emails and a phone conversation with Xio for our YC CL stay coming up and she has been great! She even managed to find a F! dinner package for us just this week :)

Well a few hours after e-mailing Xio she e-mailed us back again to say that she put our request through to the right department, so talk about great service.

Available at ALL Disney Deluxe Resorts for Concierge Guests:
• Refrigerator - not stocked (available upon request at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa)

We just switched to the GF Club Level for our March trip and I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what they stock in your fridge - soda, water, snacks???? When would you request it - at check in or on your ressie? TIA!

They can basically takes items available in the lounge and put them in your fridge before you arrive, so you would need to make this request with the Grand Floridian IPO department.
