we want to fit in boma to our vacation since our boys are 4 and would enjoy peaking out at the animals before or after. How late can you view them? If we eat at 5:30 pm in january, can we still view them? the other option would be to do the breakfast our last day, but I am not sure if we can take a bus straight from pop to AKL to be there for 8 am.

I believe that all of the animals go in before sunset, so eating at 5:30 and trying to see them afterwards might be pushing it. I stayed at AKL last year and am trying to remember what the latest time I saw them was, but I can't. I think you'd have a shot of seeing them before the 5:30 dinner, though...

How late can you view them?
. . . usually just before dusk

If we eat at 5:30 pm in january, can we still view them?
. . . real iffy
. . . this is a toss-up
. . . it starts to get dark early down here
. . . if you do see them, it will be for a short time

. . . darn tough
. . . you need to go to a park, then another bus to AKL
. . . you would have to hit every bus exactly, with no waiting
. . . but, you can take a cab without any time problem at all

I'm confused.....

When we have stayed at AKL, we have always seen them at night, and last time we ate at Boma, we went out back afterwards (at around 8 or 9?) and we saw animals there as well (I mean, the difference would be that if you could actually SEE them in the dark haha)....

Excuse me for butting in... but where can you view the animals from Boma/AKL? Thinking about making a reservation. Can you only see them before sunset or in the AM hrs too?

From what I understand the animals are out all night at AKL, That is why they have lights that simulate the moon so they do not throw off the animals regular habits.

The AKL also have night time animal viewing for resort guests using night vision goggles. Would kind of defeat the purpose of this activity if the animals where brought in for the night.

You can't see animals from Boma. You have to go outside to see them.

Do you just wander the resort though? Or is there a specific area to peek at them? I've never been so I'm just trying to figure it out. :goodvibes If I made a 9:40 am ressie for next week, would there just be animals wandering? Or would dinner be a better option... not sure how it's all set up. Thanks for the help.

You go out the front of the lobby to the viewing area of the savanna. Or over by the pool. You don't wander around the resort, just out the front of the lobby.

We have not stayed at AKL, but I've seen enought night pictures from Savannah view rooms to know that you most definitely can see animals after dark. We have a 7:40pm ressie next month and are hoping to see animals from the viewing areas.

I'm assuming you mean the WILD animals, not the one's going up for their 11th plate at BOMA. :)

If you walk around the pool area you'll have a nice view of the giraffes and flamingos. I sat on my balcony after the kids were asleep and watched the animals roam by, so they're definitely out all night.

WE love TO STAY AT AKL !!we have always been able to see the animals all night...I get up in the middle of the night and go out on the balcony and watch them sometimes. They dont put the animals up...they do go in for feedings but thats it.

thanks everyone. sounds like nighttime viewing isnt as much fun.

It can be, but you have to use the night viewing glasses. And those are shared among the guests viewing. They don't light up the savanna because it is supposed to be natural for the animals. Kind of like why AK isn't open after dark most of the time.

just find a CM around who is in charge of the night vision glasses (I think they have places they go if it is raining as well) and they will have the skinny on where the animals are :)
