I am so excited. You see mom just turned 93 this past October and while she still lives on her own and still drives:scared1: We had asked her some years ago but she hasn't wanted to travel that involves flying in the last 10 years or so.

She has done a couple of road trips with another DB but that's it. So anywhoo, my DB and DSIL that are joining us in May asked if she wanted to go and she said yes!!!

We are going to rent a wheel chair for her as she doesn't do as much walking as Disney requires anymore. We have the van so any one of us can take her back to the hotel as needed.

I think she realizes, "what the heck, I could go any day any time, I may as well go for it". I am so excited my children will be there for this!!!

Now I have to let my other sibs know so that I don't get in trouble for not telling them and we'll see if this goes from a party of 6 to a party of umpteen hundred. :scared1:

That's great!! I hope you all have a great time!! I'm really looking forward to my trip with Mom!!

Make sure to take a ton of Family Pics! Just ask any cast member, they are always happy to make sure everyone is in the shot!

Thats so wonderful and I'm jealous! My mom is 82. She's the one I got my love of all things Disney from. It was her hand that I held walking down mainstreet when I was 7 years old for the first time, and many more times after that growing up. It was one of the few times I saw my Mother relax, not stress and just enjoy herself with no worries. She gets so excited when go home for a visit and show her photo's and videos. She wants to go again so bad, but she won't fly and at her age, driving is just hard on her long distances. If there's a way I could take her I would.

I'm sure you all will have an amazing time. :)

What cool memories.

Maybe peer pressure, Ann's 93 1/2 (because at this age the 1/2's are very important) is going and she's flying. :goodvibes

I took my grandmother for the last time at 90. Some old lady tips if I may:

1. Bring them sunscreen, sun glasses & a hat. The tissue paper thin skin is apt to burn easily and they are not used to wearing sunscreen--since they generally don't go outside for long periods of time and it didn't exist in 1930.

2. Check the wardrobe--my nutty grandmother wanted to wear polyester pant suits--it was summer---she would have melted. It took a lot of encouraging to persuade her that "natural" fibers were the way to go. Also, if she will wear a gym shoe or flat shoe that would be awesome. My grandmother would only wear her 1 1/2 inch old lady sandals--you all know the ones I am talking about.

3. Even if it is 90 degrees, bring her a sweater. It is cold inside and it is unlikely any Disney gift shop will sell anything she would wear in her size.

4. You may need to bring a towel for the wheelchair to make her more comfortable. My grandmother was tiny, and the wheelchair was too big (even with her giant old lady purse next to her), we sort of made her wheelchair seat smaller and padded with a couple of towels.

5. Remind them to drink water--my grandmother never drinks water at home (only coffee) so this was a constant reminder.

6. Get her a camera of her own. Seriously some of the best photographs from our trip are the ones she took, they are full of randomness--they are priceless.

Of course frequent breaks, real meals, are all a must.

Finally, bring lots of pushers. You have no idea how heavy grandma gets after the first couple hours. Seriously my grandma weighed less than 100 pounds, but by the end of the day--it felt like a million. [If my grandma wasn't blind as a bat, I would have gotten her an EVC, but she would have ended up swimming in the 7 seas lagoon].

We had a really good time, I am sure you will too.

Thank you these are great!

Good tip. My whole family is suseptile to skin cancer. But I'm not sure if we'd thought of making mom lather up

She wears orthopedic shoes but I'll make sure she's got good walking shoes.

As I said, my mom still drives, but I'm not sure I'd trust her with an ECV (of course I don't trust her driving a car either)

That is awesome! I'm excited for you! I'm planning on taking my mother and brothers to WDW sometime next year.

My mom has never been on a real vacation since we were all born. My mother's last real vacation was Las Vegas when she was pregnant with me back in 1985.

I will be expecting pictures when you all return!! :D
