TTC thread take 2

Awesome! Wishing the best for you!

Anyone can feel free to answer this... do you have to take hormone shots to have IUI? Or is it possible just to have the IUI without any hormone shots? I'm hoping to start ovulating regularly with the help of this medicine. That's just a hope though.

DH went in for his analysis today. We've got our fingers crossed hoping for good news! Come on analysis count.. please be up, please be up!

Typically, if you are just starting out with IUI, they will do at least one or two cycles without injections--just with clomid by mouth...or a similar med (I took tamoxifen, which is much easier on the uterine lining). Hopefully that will get the job done and you won't ever need to move onto the more aggressive cycles with injectibles.

Yeah, the cost is what I was worried about. The last time we went for an appointment to speak with the Dr., we checked prices with the billing specialist. The actual IUI would only cost around $400 there. I'm hoping to get away with just that, but that would be a miracle! Thanks for answering!

Hi Cheri! We must have been writing at the same time :goodvibes

Thanks for the info! I will do some research on Clomid.

you're very welcome. Also I would really suggest at least doing the HCG trigger shot. I used to assume that every dr administered a trigger prior to doing IUI's, but I do have a friend whose RE was doing IUI's without doing a trigger, she would just have to take OPK's and they would time it that way. She didn't get pregnant with this doctor and has just switched to a new one. So I just want to stress that you should request a trigger shot -- incase they don't immediately offer one.

You can always PM me if you need to ask anything that you don't want to say out in the open. I've done 4 IUI's so I'm kind of a pro now ;) Just wish I could be a pro at getting pregnant

Funny you should mention the trigger shot because the only IUI I actually got pregnant on was the one where they didn't trigger and just let me do OPKs.

Feelslikehome - Good luck to you and your DH.

Snowwhite - Fingers crossed for you too girlfriend. :thumbsup2

Kronks - I hate when AF is such a tease. Try to have fun on vacation any way.

Well I am just about ready to hang up this TTC hat. :sad1: If something doesn't happen by my b-day in Dec. I think we're going to officially stop and go visit the adoption agency - again. One way or another we're going to complete this family.

 There is still time for a magic, how you find it/get it may not be how you thought you were going to but it's still magic all the same. . . pixiedust:

Wouldn't you just know? :sad2:

FeelsLikeHome...My first IUI we tried to do it with no meds, just follicle scans (ultrasounds) because my Dr wanted to see what I did on my own. None of my follicles reached her magic 20mm number so that IUI was canceled. My 3 IUIs we did with just Clomid. 50mg was enough to get me to 20mm so that's all we ever used. I did HCG trigger each time as well.

Clomid is pretty cheap. The trigger ran me anywhere from $65-85, depending on where it was called in. My Dr charged $150 for the actual IUI. DH's sperm wash/prep was another $150. The follicle scans were coded in a way that my insurance actually covered them, so I was only out about $500 per Clomid/IUI. Not too bad. I wasn't lucky with the IUIs, unfortunately.

When we were going to do the injectible IUIs, I was quoted about $2000 per cycle.

Hope all of you ladies are doing well. :) I check in on y'all often and hope to read good news soon. :goodvibes

I got away with just Clomid ($50 per month) and $450 for the IUI. The only sucessful one I had did not include ultrasound or trigger shots. We did IUI 4x.

Just got back from visiting my alma mater this weekend (University of Illinois). Had a great time at homecoming with some of the most amazing people I know. Was definitely in a "happy place" for most of the weekend! :thumbsup2 :drinking1 Got the "when are you gonna have a baby?" question about a million times, but it was still a great weekend despite that and did end up being a good way to get my mind off TTC for a few days! Back to reality tomorrow :surfweb:
