Bahamas Questions???? Just Back

Just back from 5 days at Atlantis. Wonder in port during our stay. I will answer any questions on shopping, shore excursions etc..

I love snorkeling (only done it a few times, but I have my own equipment) but the rest of the family will probably want to stay on the Dream that day and The Boss (i.e., wife) will not really let me spend much money and time going on an excursion. Are there any decent snorkeling sites which can be accessed from shore and reasonably close to the port? I do work in Grand Cayman and there are shore sites very easily accessible and I was hoping to find at least one similar spot in Nassau that I could walk/short taxi to and just jump in the water with my equipment. So far, looking on the internet, I'm not optimistic. Any information is appreciated!

1. Did you do any excursions, and if so, please tell us your experience (did you book through DCL, or through Atlantis, etc).
2. Did you shop at the market near port?
3. Can you bring drinks and snacks into Atlantis?
4. How was the weather?
5. Was it worth going to Atlantis? Did you do any other (non-Atlantis) excursions?

Thanks!

Jen

I did just one snorkeling excursion and was not impressed, 7 mile beach on Grand Cayman is better. We were on Paradise island but driving through nassau there are many public beaches where you could dive in for no charge other than a cab to drop you off.

1. We weren't on the DCL, they just happened to be in port and I know from a previous cruise people have questions. We booked excursions through Atlantis for the Dolphin Deep Water Swim and the Sea Lion Interaction on-site. Trainers were wonderful.
2. In the lobby of the resort there is an excersion desk to book outside of Atlantis. We did a day snorkel trip to a private island, food included for $60, drinks on the island/boat were $4 for alcohol and $2 non-alcohol
3. The straw market is right at the port for shopping. Knock-off coach, gucci etc.... at bargain prices. They take cash and will throw in things for free.
4.You can bring stuff into Atlantis.
5. Now that I have been to Nassau, and know my way around, I would not pay to stay at Atlantis Royal Towers again. I would stay at a lower price resort, enjoy the same beaches and the same excursions

Can you share a little more about this, please? What, where, how? I really am interested in doing a dolphin excursion, but the one I had my eye on is sold out through DCL. Didn't know there were other options.

Thanks!

Did you go into the straw market? Did you feel unsafe? Is it arm to arm people in there or is there enough room to feel like your not in a mosh pit trying to buy things?

Is it easy and worth the time to take the water taxi over to Atlantis?

Thanks

Chris

1) I'd like to hear a review on atlantis sea lions. How long? How much interaction? Cost? (atlantis site keeps locking on me if I try to "book")

dolphin encounters sea lion encounter has a 8 years old age minimum. I can't find any restrictions on the atlantis sea lions. Would it be OK for a 7 year old or smaller child? Any chance of kids getting knocked down?

2) overall, did you find atlantis worth the trip/cost? I've looked at it as an excursion, but think I'd rather just do an atlantis trip itself to get more out of it.
