It was worth the wait! 8 days at the Contemporary, food & fun! Updated 11/4, Day 7

California Grill!!! I was so excited about this reservation. The idea of sitting on the top of the Contemporary with a view over Magic Kingdom was so enticing when I read about this restaurant. I knew for our one special dinner, this is where I wanted to go. Now, this restaurant, being a Signature Dining location, has a dress code. But it’s still pretty loose IMO. However, we wanted to dress up a little more without feeling out of place. On our honeymoon I wore a dress for a couple of our meals and felt a little awkward walking through the parks in heels. We felt perfectly normal going to California Grill in slightly dressy attire, but I would have also felt fine in nicer jeans and a shirt too. (This is actually what Brian wore because someone forgot his dress pants. He was pretty perturbed with that someone…hehe :guilty:) Notice my bag in this picture? I kind of asssumed the CM would think to not include that...I didn't really notice it until just now. I guess he didn't either?

Disney219.jpg

We checked in for our ADR on the second floor of the Contemporary. About 5 minutes later, we were escorted up to the 15th floor for our meal! We were seated right away at what I thought was an amazing table! Just look at our view!!! :yay:

Disney204.jpg

This is me literally sitting in my seat and holding the camera right at my face. I was in love! Our waiter quickly came to greet us and take drink orders. This is the one aspect I have a small complaint about. Maybe it’s because I haven’t eaten in many fancy restaurants. Maybe it’s because I’m from the South. Maybe it’s because of my background in customer service (and being pretty darn good at it, if I do say so myself!). Or maaaaaaybeeee it’s just me and what I like. But I didn’t like our server. He was nice. He was polite. He was efficient. He just didn’t have a warm personality. Now, I didn’t expect him to be anything like the servers at Whispering Canyon. I didn’t come in thinking he would be overly boisterous and crack jokes left and right. I just don’t care for the “professional-waiter” vibe this guy gave off. :snooty: Does that make sense? And in no way am I saying every server there is like this…he was the only one we really had contact with though. Okay, that took too long.

Anyways, I have a suggestion for Disney. Any time someone on the regular dining plan eats at a Signature Restaurant, meaning they have to use 2 table service credits, why not throw us a bone and include the appetizer rather than making it cost extra?? While I’m at it, I also have another suggestion. Tell me what you think. Or don’t…but at least listen. Why not have a dining plan priced in between the regular and deluxe dining plan called the Signature Dining Plan. Instead of the 1ts, 1 cs, 1 snack per person-per night like the regular and the 3 ts/cs and 2 snacks they do for the deluxe, this plan could be 1 sit down meal (be it signature OR regular), 1 cs, and 1 snack per person-per night. This way, people who want to eat at the Signature restaurants could without having to burn 2 ts credits. But, it’s also not quite as much food as the deluxe, and therefore could be priced accordingly. I would TOTALLY book this package! The deluxe is just a little too pricey/too much food for me. But I can only really justify one Signature restaurant per trip because of the 2 credit issue. Okay, that was really off track. Sorry! And maybe I’m the only one who thinks that’s a good idea. If it is a good idea, Disney just needs to hire me and give me lots of money for coming up with it! HAHA!!!

On to my actual night (sorry, I’m chatty today). So with our drinks, our server brought out some crusty bread and butter. It tasted like bread and butter.

Disney200.jpg

Although they weren’t included, I did want to order appetizers. Another thing I’m obsessed with is goat cheese. So obviously, after I had read all the raves about the Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli, I knew I really wanted to try this. One thing I’m not wild about is onions. I don’t mind if they’re cooked and mixed in with something and pretty soft. I do not like crunchy or large ones. Just a word of warning (because I never heard anyone say this on the boards), this dish has cooked onions on the top of the ravioli. Not a huge deal but they were mixed with the sun-dried tomatoes, parmesan cheese, mushrooms and fresh basil so it was slightly difficult to separate them from the rest. I wish I would have known to request that they be left off. Still, this dish was very good. Not quite up to the expectations I had, but still very good. Also, it’s not quite as large of a portion as appears in the photo, just fyi. Good appetizer portion.

Disney201.jpg

Brian really surprised me with his selection. I’ve never seen this listed on any menu online so I don’t know the name. But he ordered some sort of fried crab on top of a bed of corn, bacon, tomatoes, artichokes, potatoes, and pesto…maybe? He is not the most adventurous eater. He can eat most anything but when we’re at a restaurant, he almost always plays it safe and orders something he KNOWS he’ll like. Before this, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him order crab. But something came over him and he wanted to branch out. He LOVED it though! He sucked every piece of crab meat out of the shell he possibly could and ate everything underneath too. Honestly, I took a bite and thought it was okay. Not something I would order though.

Disney202.jpg

For my entrée, I went in with a few ideas but wasn’t sure until we were sitting there. I went with the Grilled Pork Tenderloin, served with goat cheese polenta (there’s the goat cheese AGAIN!), button mushrooms, and Zinfandel glaze. Everything about this was amazing! I’m not a huge pork person, but this was sooooo good. It was cooked perfectly – juicy and very flavorful. The polenta? WOW!!!!! The picture doesn’t look like there was much of that, but there was. I could have eaten about 3 times the amount though. To me, it made the dish. When I hear people say they substitute something else for this, it makes me sad. To each his own, but I just don’t understand anyone not liking this. I honestly think this was THE BEST thing I’ve ever eaten. You know that show on the Food Network “The Best Thing I’ve Ever Eaten.” Yeah, this is mine. Hands down. Case closed.

Disney205.jpg

Brian ordered the Oak-fired Filet of Beef. Unlike the online menus (loaded mashed potatoes and broccolini), his came with asparagus and scalloped potatoes. This was another huge hit. I took a bite and it was great. The beef was extremely tender and the barbeque sauce was very good. Brian also felt this was the best thing he’d ever eaten! He had taken me to Ruth’s Chris on my birthday at the end of February, right before this trip. That’s about the fanciest (definitely priciest) meal we’ve ever had. They’re pretty known for their steaks. Brian thought this steak was better…and about the same price.

Disney206.jpg

Brian finished every last bite of his. I gave a valiant effort but left one of the pork medallions because I knew I wanted dessert, as always. I’ll be honest here, I think their dessert offerings are a little lacking. Maybe it was the time of year we went, because I know they change their menu a little with the seasons. For some reason I wanted to branch out on this choice. The only two choices that really appealed to me were the chocolate cake (what I should have went with) and the Mascarpone and Meyer Lemon Cheesecake - Whipped cheesecake and meyer lemon Panna Cotta with huckleberry jam. This was good, just not my idea of dessert. I like fruit. I’m just not a fruity-dessert kind of person. I’m not big on fruit pies or cobblers. So the lemon cheesecake was good. But I know myself. I would have enjoyed something chocolatey, or creamy, or coffee-based. So lesson learned. You never know if you’ll find a new “best thing” until you try. Oh, and I did NOT like the huckleberry jam! That little biscuit on the right was good, but it was just an almond flavored soft cookie. Sorry about the bite!

Disney209.jpg

Brian was much smarter than me. He ordered something he knew he’d enjoy, the Bananas and Caramel - crispy baked Phyllo squares layered with banana, caramel, mascarpone mousse and caramelized banana. I’m not a fan of banana generally so that’s why this was out for me. He really liked this. But there was a layer in the construction we couldn’t quite figure out. It wasn’t the mousse. It was cold, kind of icy, and pretty flavorless. It reminded me of a palate cleanser, but that seems out of place in the middle of a layered dessert. We should have asked, but just didn’t.

Disney208.jpg

As the sun went down, this was our new view. I know they’re a little blurry.

Disney210.jpg

I really wish we had made our ADR for later. We tried to stretch the meal out until Wishes started but just couldn’t. There was still about and hour and 40 minutes until the show so we gave up the table and went out to the patio area. Here’s a view of Bay Lake Tower from the deck…somewhere I really hope to stay one day.

Disney212.jpg

Here’s looking back towards the restaurant.

Disney215.jpg

I wish the deck had at least some seating, like maybe a few benches. It wasn’t crowded at all out there so I can’t imagine that it would cause much of an issue. Because of this, we decided to go back to the room. We still had over an hour before the show. Thinking back, we should have gone back to change clothes and shoes and then came back. But I literally just had that thought now. I know, it probably seems obvious. Call us dense!

We did walk around a little before heading back though.

Disney220.jpg

I really like this picture for some reason.

Disney224.jpg

Disney222.jpg

So this was the end to our Best Day! We went back to the room and I really don’t remember anything specific about it. We must have watched a little TV before turning in. California Grill was our favorite restaurant of the whole trip. Not that the rest were bad necessarily, this just blew them away. I guess being a Signature, it should. We’re going back here in December and we’re both sooooo excited. It’s actually the only table service that’s a repeat for us. I’m still trying to decide about my appetizer and dessert. I’m hoping the seasonal dessert menu will have something really appealing (I love pumpkin and a lot of “fall” flavors so I’m not worried). If anyone has an appetizer recommendation, let me know! I’ve never had any sushi that I liked, but then again, I’ve only had it a few times.

We arranged our Disney schedule around a TV show…yes, we did. I am ashamed.

So glad to hear about the Tour!! I have always wanted to do one. I may have to see if there is still one open for our next trip! We are staying Club Level MK view. Funny how this happened....I have about $1000 in rewards from sunshine rewards and my disney visa. If it weren't for that, we totally would not be staying there!! We would be at the Boardwalk. But you only live once, right!? We actually cut our stay in half there, split with the yacht club so we could afford it. I can't wait! Although, it may spoil my DH so much that we will only be able to go to Disney every couple of years so he can stay in that room! He is already dreading the day we have to check out!!

We also love the California Grill. Did it a few years ago. Sorry about your server, we had a great one that had been working at that restaurant for more than 15 years! Can't wait to read the rest of your report....and to find out what the best CS meal was!

You know... if it was the other way around you would expect nothing less! :rotfl:

I'm loving your TR. Sad... I'm already looking forward to our joint TR now! :lmao:

Ok...update. I booked the Keys to the Kingdom Tour today after reading your trip report! It's just going to be me, since DS is not old enough. Yippee!! Thanks for the review!

Love your trip report but how can you hate Stitch?? That's just so wrong!;)

Keep updating, seems like a great vacation so far.

Our last trip was March 2008, and Tony's was kinda blah then too. :)

First, congrats on the tour! I really do think you'll like it. Everyone on our tour was so nice too. I'm sure you'll find someone to buddy-up with. I guess your DH is going to be staying behind with your son? I'm excited for you!! :yay:

We just signed up for the Disney Visa a few weeks ago! Maybe by next year I'll have enough accumulated to upgrade like that! That's awesome. Please at least post pictures of your view when you get back. Does your ticker say only 8 days?!?!? AND you're staying Yacht Club?? That's another of my must-do's at some point. So exciting!

You know... if it was the other way around you would expect nothing less! :rotfl:

Woo hoo - me too! My Outlook calendar popped up 13 weeks this morning!

I love your dress... it's so cute!! I've been debating packing a dress:confused:

Thanks! I actually bought it for my rehearsal dinner before we got married so it's been on both Disney trips. It's my go-to cute dress. If you read my TR for the upcoming trip in December, it may make an appearance there too. Then again, I might just need to go buy something different. You've sparked an idea!

Your trip is so soon! Especially with it being hot out, a cute little sun dress might be worth it. :)

Love your trip report but how can you hate Stitch?? That's just so wrong!;)

Our last trip was March 2008, and Tony's was kinda blah then too. :)

Sorry about Stitch :confused3 I'm just not a fan. Can't put my finger on it but he gets on my nerves. But thanks for reading along!!

Yeah, Tony's is off our list unless I start hearing unanimous praise. Such a bummer because the location is so good. I guess that's at least part of why they don't HAVE to make it better than blah.

2nd. It's very beautiful!

I'm a goat cheese addict too if I see it on the menu I have to order it!

Thanks! I'm realizing writing this report that I get crazed about certain foods and order them whenever I see them. And they're usually foods I have discovered later in life for one reason or another. This list includes pumpkin, goat cheese, coconut, pineapple, mushroom, risotto... Oh I'm sure there's more, but those are off the top of my head.

Another goat cheese dish that I thought was incredible is the goat cheese and chive scrambled eggs at Boma. Yummy!

We have an ADR during Wishes in December too! Very excited about that. What sushi do you order? Or what would you recommend a newbie order?

I have heard Tony's lunch is better than dinner. And I do remember the flatbread being good when we were there in 2008. I hope your experience is better than ours. I guess just hope for mediocre and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Ahhh, you assume Animal Kingdom, huh? You might be surprised! :rolleyes1

Well everyone, work has kind of taken over my Dis time. How dare them, right? :rotfl: And DH and I are going to visit my parents in Georgia this weekend so I'm not sure I'll get an update finished before next weekend. Don't lose faith in me! I'll get one done as soon as I can. And if no one bugs me too much, I may can finish at least half of our next day by tomorrow before I leave work. :goodvibes Either way, everyone have a great weekend!

YES! ADR AT CALI GRILL DURING WISHES, CAN'T BEAT IT! I LOVE "SNAKE IN THE GRASS" SUSHI, BUT THAT MIGHT MAKE YOU A LITTLE SQUEAMISH  (MADE WITH EEL) SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO STICK WITH "CALIFORNIA ROLLS" OR "COOKED" SUSHII. REMEMBER TO USE CHOPSTICKS AND POUR SOY SAUCE IN A LITTLE BOWL AND DIP THE SUSHI IN AND ENJOY!
I HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND WITH MOM & POPS AND I WILL LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR ADVENTURES NOT IN ANIMAL KINGDOM :lmao:(DARN, I GUESSED WRONG!):rotfl:

Good morning/afternoon/evening! I was finally able to finish this day's installment. Work has been busy the last couple of weeks, plus, we went to visit my parents in Georgia last weekend. We had a great time but boy, was I looking forward to this weekend to rest! So, ma chère, mademoiselle. It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight. And now, we invite you to relax, let us pull up a chair, as the dining room proudly presents...your dinner...er, I mean...my trip.

Tuesday, May 11th

So my last update left off saying this is the day we visited my least favorite park. Well, that’s only half-way true. For me, it’s really hard to decide between Magic Kingdom and Epcot for my favorite. And it’s also hard to decide between Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom for my least favorite. It’s not that I particularly dislike either of them. I LIKE them both. But to me, there’s MK and Epcot on one end of the spectrum…and then DHS and AK on the far other end. Make sense? Anyway, Hollywood Studios was where we headed today.

But first, we had a breakfast ADR at Boma! See, I’m a breakfast lover. Brian, not so much. He likes breakfast-type foods, just not in the morning – go figure! Well, I made the ADRs so he’ll just have to deal with it, right? After our wakeup call and walk over to the MK to catch a bus to AKL, I was ready for some food! I was really excited though to see AKL since we had never been to that resort. I had heard people rave about the lobby and how cool all the light fixtures were and wanted to see for myself. We were the only ones on our bus so Mr. Bus Driver took us straight there. I have to admit, the lobby is very impressive.

Disney229.jpg

Disney232.jpg

We checked in and were quickly taken to our table. We ordered a pot of coffee and our waitress insisted we try the special juice mix they serve. It’s called West African Frunch and according to allears it is a combination of lemonade, pineapple juice, guava juice, orange juice, and papaya juice. It was quite yummy! But I don’t think I could have more than a glass or so. Come to think of it, had I added some water to cut it slightly I think it would have been better. But the flavor was great! And the coffee was S-T-R-O-N-G, so if you like it that way you'll love it.

Disney236.jpg

Like I’m sure many of you have already read, the buffet is set up in little pods. So there were probably 6 different stations, each having a few similar offerings. On the far left there were bread, bagels, muffins, scones, etc. Next there were a few pods with sausage, an omelet station, eggs, bacon, etc. Then there was an area with pancakes, waffles, and oatmeal. Lastly, I think there was an area for cereal and milk. I started on the left and worked my way across. Here is what I came back with.

Disney235.jpg

From 12 o’clock: bacon, underneath that were goat cheese and chive scrambled eggs, banana bread, a scone (I think cranberry and apple, maybe), sticky bun, macadamia nut muffin, and in the middle a bran muffin. Way too much bread but everything looked so good. I’m definitely a carboholic, if I let myself do what I want. I’ve gotten much better in recent years about limiting myself but this was vacation! Bring on the bread! Everything was great (I did try to take only a few bites of each item so I wouldn’t be too full)! The goat cheese eggs were definitely my favorite thing. I know some don’t like Disney’s bacon but I thought it was wonderful. Do take into consideration that I rarely eat bacon at home so that could be part of it.

I also got a waffle quarter, a pancake, and a piece of French toast.

Disney234.jpg

The waffle was excellent. However, the pancake was rather lackluster to me and I didn’t care for the French toast, maybe because it had raisins in it. I’m okay with raisins normally, but I like for there to be a few spread out. At least my piece had quite a bit of the little boogers so it wasn’t great to me.

When I tried to take a picture of Brian’s plate he pushed me away and said he basically got the same things as me so “what is the point?”. Uh…okay. Honey, are you a little embarrassed by all the food you got? Anyways, he liked everything too – except he did NOT like the bacon. We also got an omelet to share but I forgot to take a picture! It was yummy! I think we got just sausage and cheese, so nothing spectacular.

We looked around the resort quite a bit since we knew we may not be back for a while. AKL is somewhere that doesn’t really appeal much to us. I think its location has quite a bit to do with that though. Personally, I don’t see us paying to stay in a deluxe resort if the only method of transportation is Disney bus. But that’s just us. The resort and the grounds are beautiful though!

Disney241.jpg

Disney242.jpg

We walked to the animal viewing area behind the pool and saw a few animals!

Disney244.jpg

Disney245.jpg

Disney247.jpg

Disney248.jpg

After a little bit, we decided to finally make our way towards Hollywood Studios. We waited for a bus for maybe 15 minutes before being whisked away. When we got there, DH had to use the facilities so I grabbed our tickets and ran to Toy Story Mania to get FPs.

Disney251.jpg

Disney252.jpg

Looking at that FP, I think if our next FP was available at 11:50, wouldn’t that make the time I got these 9:50? I think we made decent time to be in the park this early! I didn’t realize this until just now.

When Brian came around to where I was, we decided to do the Narnia exhibit since it was closed when we were there in 08. We really like these movies quite a bit. I didn’t know quite what to expect. The only thing I had really heard from the podcasts I listen to is that it’s a waste of space and time, but I wanted to try it for myself. Well, they were right. I thought it was pretty lame. You watch a short video, look at a replica of the stone from the first movie, and then you’re ushered thru a small room with a few props from the movie. Not worth it, IMO.

Next, we hit One Man’s Dream. We had also missed this one from 2008. I really liked this area. But obviously (as seen from our Keys Tour), we both really like this type of thing. All the history just fascinates us.

Disney263.jpg

Disney262.jpg

Have I mentioned I love Mary Poppins?

Disney266.jpg

By this time, our stomachs had settled enough to where we felt comfortable doing some thrill rides. Here’s where my tease comes in. My favorite ride in all of Disney World is The Tower of Terror, by far! I absolutely love this ride. There are several things in DHS that I enjoy, but in no way possible would it ever be my favorite park. But let me tell ya, I could ride this ride over and over. I love it!

Disney269.jpg

So that’s exactly where we headed. The wait time posted said 10 minutes but that was really taking walking through the queue into account. I’m not one for creepy things like haunted houses or horror movies. I’m not really even a huge fan of Halloween (I know, how could I feel that way? etc, etc, blah, blah). But I do really like the theming as you walk to the ride. Disney just does things right, ya know?

Disney270.jpg

Disney271.jpg

Next, we headed over to Rock’N Rollercoaster, Brian’s favorite. I like this one a lot too, but ToT would beat it out every time for me. Look at our picture…pretty funny, right?

Disney274.jpg

When we were leaving the ride, I overheard something so cute. I little girl with a British accent had apparently ridden soon before or after us. She was in the gift shop with her dad and he was asking her if she liked the ride. She said in an excited voice, “I liked it…but I was scared!” It may have been a you-had-to-be-there moment, but she was so adorable and I couldn’t help but repeat this phrase many time for the rest of the day…in my horrible wannabe British accent, of course!

Indiana Jones was another show I hadn’t seen in the past. When we were on our Honeymoon, this attraction had been closed because they were using the space for some cheerleading competition. And I’m not really sure how much longer this show will stay around since it’s so old so I knew I had to see it at least once. As we were walking though, we passed by the American Idol show and they were about to start so we slipped right it.

Disney277.jpg

Disney280.jpg

Honestly, neither performer was very good. We basically voted for the best of the worst. I think we would only do this again if we’re there on a very busy day so that there’s more potential to see someone really talented.

Finally, we made it over to Indiana Jones. As silly as it sounds, I was REALLY looking forward to this. I think it was just because I never had seen it and I knew how long it had been running. Also, keep in mind, I hadn’t heard much about it beforehand.

Disney282.jpg

I’ll spare you anymore pictures because they really didn’t turn out well. I won’t ruin it for anyone out there like me who hasn’t seen it yet. But I will tell you, I’m embarrassed to say I totally bought the part they’re trying to making you believe. I did catch on before it was totally over but it took me awhile. Gullible, I know!

(continued in next post)

We also went on Star Tours since we knew they were closing this next year for big changes. It’s about time! My tummy felt a little funny for a few minutes right afterward. I bought my 7 year old nephew a book all about Star Wars in their gift shop. He is a NUT when it comes to SW. His birthday was a few weeks after we got home so I knew going in that is what I wanted to do. He LOVED it, btw! My sister (his mom) actually took him and the rest of their family to Star Wars Weekends in June and he was in heaven! They went on his birthday and he thought it was the coolest thing EVER.

Disney288.jpg

Disney290.jpg

It was around lunch time when we finished in the SW gift shop. I knew while I was in the park, I just had to try the butterfinger cupcake. So off we went to Starring Rolls Bakery to get it. I thought I might get the ham sandwich too and make it a CS order. But when we got there, the sandwich just didn’t look appealing. I went ahead and got the cupcake using a snack credit and then off we went in search of Toy Story Pizza Planet. Okay, here is where you can call us dense. We assumed (you know that saying, right?) that a TOY STORY themed restaurant would be in the Pixar area of the park. I was holding my cupcake so I couldn’t really pull out the map. Long story short: We walked all over HS before Brian finally pulled out the map and had us going in the right direction! Oh well, we probably needed the extra walking from breakfast that morning.

Once we got to Pizza Planet, we both ordered a pepperoni pizza and sugar cookie with a drink. I had read so much about how Disney pizza was horrible and icky but that’s what DH wanted and really nothing else sounded appealing to me so I was up for giving it a try. I’m actually really glad we did.

Disney291.jpg

I thought the pizza was pretty good. The crust was flavorful and there was a decent ratio of crust to toppings. However, I must admit the following, which I know will totally take away my credibility in rating this as “good pizza”. In the 5 years DH and I have been together, we have only ordered a pizza once. Yep, once. It would require quite a bit to adequately explain that statement but let me try to give you the highlights. We usually only eat out once a week for both budget and dietary reasons. (There was even a stint from Sept 08 until Feb 09 that we only went out to a restaurant MAYBE four times – we had some major money issues…for us, that was hard). Also, when I have had “pizza” in the last few years, 9 out of 10 times it has been a Lean Cuisine/Weight Watchers frozen pizza – if one can really call it that. And finally, we’re just not big pizza eaters I guess. We don’t live in NYC or Chicago either. So take my opinion here with a grain of salt. I probably don’t know good pizza. But again, we liked it.

Now, the cookie - I only took a bite of this later in the room because I had my monstrosity of a cupcake waiting. But I thought it was also pretty good. Brian thought it was good too. And it was huge.

Finally, it had come time to try my cupcake. With enormous expectations, I dug in.

Wow, this was tasty. I think I may have gotten through about a third of it before defeat settled over me. It was delicious but it was a) huge and b) very rich. Please understand, I’m not one to say the phrase “That dessert is rich.” I don’t think it’s happened before or after this. So when I say it was rich, I mean it. I’ve actually never really understood that complaint until this very situation. So my recommendation would be to try and share this with someone and be prepared to feel full afterward! I wish I had had some milk at the time. That and being at home on my couch would have made for a great combination.

As we were leaving, we saw an air hockey table and played a game. I won...I rule.

So after I waddled out of Pizza Planet, we did a little more shopping in the stores. My husband is so cool.

Disney294.jpg

We also walked around the Streets of the America (is that what it’s called?) Anyway, I do love this part of the park. It’s very cool. And seeing as I would love the live in NYC, it’s right up my alley. Ahhh, to win the lottery one day, right?

As we were walking back towards Lights, Motors, Actions, I must tell you about something that could have turned very ugly. I’m actually embarrassed to tell it but hopefully it will be entertaining. Right as you’re leaving the “street” area and you can see the LMA entrance and the bathrooms in front of that there are some benches. As we’re walking by these benches, we see and hear a woman yelling and cussing at her elderly mother and elementary age son, both of whom are sitting on the bench. She isn’t just a little upset. Again, she was yelling and using every 4 letter word in the book (yes, even THAT 4 letter word) – VERY loudly. I don’t really know what came over me but I was quite annoyed at her display right in the middle of everyone AND at a semi-crowded Disney theme park. So as we’re passing by I look over at her at say, “Will you watch your mouth please?” As you might have guessed, loud-mouth didn’t take to this very well. She turned her attention to me and started telling me to mind my own business and other not-so-nice, curse word laden phrases. I then just simply said something about how there are children everywhere and what she is saying is inappropriate, and then keep walking. Brian was furious with me. I really don’t know why I did it either. I’m not that kind of person. All I knew is that one second I was thinking it and the next second it had made its way out of my mouth loud enough for her to hear. Whether I was right or not, this woman could have beaten me up. She was large, obviously unrefined, and definitely not scared of me. I probably should have just gotten a cast member to come out and hope that she was still acting like a fool. Oh well, I learned my lesson.

We had just missed the show for LMA but noted the time for the next one. Next we went on the Backlot Tour, another first for me.

I thought the props at the VERY end were cool. Brian loves this picture. I think it’s his facebook profile pic.

When you exit this area, you’re fed into a store with all kinds of movie related things for sale. We found a huge American Film Institute book; I think it was something about the 1000 best movies of all time. We spent at least 45 minutes looking through this.

Next, our Toy Story Mania fastpass window was finally open! We never made it back to LMA, which is fine by me. I like the show but it’s nothing I feel I need to see again unless they change it somehow. Although I was excited about TSM, I was a little skeptical as to whether I was going to like it. Brian is a huge video game nerd so I figured he would. And of course, being on the Boards, I had heard everything from “It’s the best ride ever!” all the way to “I didn’t get it”. So I went in hopeful but not knowing what to expect. I did love the theming though. Well, as it turns out, I thought this ride was awesome! It was much more fun that I had anticipated. Our final scores were:

Me on the left, Brian on the right

Once we got out, the standby line was actually pretty short. All the FPs were for much later and we expected to leave fairly soon. So we jumped in and I got to see the full queue.

Mr. Potato Head was pretty cool. I am proud to report, in our second round I kicked butt! Brian claims that he tried a different strategy at first so it threw him off a little. I think I would have won regardless. :goodvibes

Okay, here’s where I’ll spill our shameful scheduling decision. First, I think you should know, I’m not a Fantasmic girl. We saw the show back in 08 and although I thought it was pretty good, it isn’t something I think I need to see every visit, especially when they only run it a couple of nights and you have to get your seat SOOO early. I know some people love it. I like Illuminations about a bajillion times more.

I think by this time it was at least 4pm. We still wanted to go to Downtown Disney for a bit. And we had to make it back to the room by 9pm for…Lost. We are (were) huge Lost fans, obviously. We had our DVR set to record every other show we were missing that week. But that episode was like the next to last or the second to last for the entire series. We really wanted to watch it live. So we planned that night to be in the room. Oh, we also changed around our ADRs early on because initially we had put California Grill on this night. Once we realized we’d miss the show during dinner I switched our schedule around. I know, it’s so un-Disney, right? Anyways…

Since DTD buses don’t run between the Parks, we walked to the Boardwalk to catch a bus. I completely understand their reasoning for doing this. But don’t you think they could totally find a way to check resort cards or something so this isn’t such a hassle for on-site guests? There’s another story later that backs up my feelings for this, but it’s on another day. Anyway, once we got to DTD, we went in the Christmas store (my favorite!!), the Lego Store, the Pin store, and World of Disney. Brian was really stressing about what souvenir he was going to buy himself. Remember how he was perturbed that I found something so quickly (my pearl ring) and he didn’t know what he wanted? Yeah, it was still bothering him. He was dabbling with the idea of pins but didn’t know if he wanted to take the plunge. Well, he still didn’t buy anything that day.

I think these windows are so cool outside the Lego area. In case you can’t tell or haven’t seen them, they’re cityscapes made of Legos.

We decided to get a counter service dinner and take it back to the hotel to eat during our show. I was trying to decide between Earl of Sandwich and Wolfgang Puck Express. We decided on EOS and I am SOOOO glad we did. I decided to get the Hawaiian Barbeque sandwich and Brian got the BLT. The way it works at Earl, you get a sandwich, a drink, and EITHER a dessert or side, not both. So Brian got chips and I got the bread pudding. Apparently I thought I hadn't had enough sweets on this day

I loved my sandwich. It came with some big chunks of pineapple as one layer of the sandwich. I didn't care for these so I just picked them off and ate them separately. Brian thought his BLT was pretty good, but a little salty. We also both got one of their smoothies and paid out of pocket for these. I got some kind of piña colada, which was great, but I don’t remember what Brian got. He liked his though. We hopped on the bus for the Contemporary and headed straight to the room. I think we made it with only a few minutes to spare. After Lost, we were both pretty pooped. I think Brian fell asleep right away and I took a shower before hopping into bed myself.

Up next:
Me, competitive? nooooo
Brian finally spends his money
“Why did I let him spend his money?!?!”

These pictures made me laugh! We stayed at CR in 2008. When we got to the entrance, we were in the lane all the way to the left. There were 6 of us in a minivan, with 12 suitcases. I could not see a thing out the back window and immediately crossing through the entrance, I saw the sign to CR all the to the right. I cant believe I didnt kill us all cutting across 6 lanes of traffic. Im glad youre home safely to write this trip report!! Cant wait to read the rest!

WOW..Ive been on the Disboards for a couple of years and this is one of the best trip reorts Ive read! Fantastic pictures..of everything! Youre a gorgeous couple. Im glad you had a great time.

2 things Ive learned so far..

I have to go to EOS and maybe a May trip should be in our future! The parks looked fairly empty!

Woohooo two for the price of one! :cool1:

I remember you trying to send me a text from TSM and I was like WHA?? cause it wouldn't come through! This seems like such a fun trip. Sigh... making December feel too far away!!!!

Awe, you're so sweet! I'm having a lot of fun writing it so I hope it's been fun to read. I really wish I had a nicer camera though. For a cheap little point-and-shoot it does fine during the day but my pictures at night definitely need some help. But when I think of all the things my house needs (new carpet, new stove, etc.), I just can't justify the expense right now. Oh well!

I'm glad you made it home safely too after that story! Luckily I was the passenger and DH is a great driver.

Yes, you MUST go to EOS!!! You'll see I really mean that later. The crowd levels were nice. Not dead, but steady. And since it wasn't dead, the park hours were still nice too - they didn't close too early or anything.

Yeah, I was trying to send you a picture of Mr. Potato Head. I don't know why it didn't want to go through. It was on my old dinosaur phone though so that may have been why. Only a couple more months!!! We've made it this far...surely we'll make it the rest!

I just wanted to subscribe real quick and have to go back to read every post. Am enjoying your TR so far!

oooh.... I am soo excited to go to World Showcase!! My daughter and I really want try for pearls too. Completely awesome that you got 2!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) How long did it take to get your ring set? It is very pretty!

Your description and pictures of Edo tempts me to try for an ADR when we go in December! YUM!
