Ok, so my first experience at BFPC was a good one. It opened Sept 1, 2010 and we were there from Sept 3rd to the 6th. We were originally scheduled to stay until the 7th but Rascal, my little yorkie got sick:sick: and we had to check out a day before.

As with any new place, they will have to work the bugs out and Im hoping they do. I will give GOOD:wizard: and BAD:headache: reviews based on my weekend. Now, they are only MY opinion and just with the experience I had. ;) No flames please, this is a FAQ thread and Im just stating what I noticed.

GOOD!:thumbsup2

:wizard:The staff was VERY nice. In VIP you have a personal pet conciege and I requested Stephanie, because my oldest took to her immediately! There were a couple of others and they were really good too. I was VERY PLEASED with the staff.

:wizard: Cleanliness was great. Not only because it was new of course, but if they boys or any other dog had an accident, it was IMMEDIATELY cleaned up.

:wizard: The grounds were awesome. Nice big areas to play in, water fountains for pet parents AND pets! Big bone swimming pools, separate areas for the different accomodations, and love the walking trail.

:wizard:LOVED the webcam in the VIP suite, although I think all of the suites need it. (I do have a negative to report on that...more in the negative section.)

:wizard: Liked the fact that you could call and check in on them. That was a good thing.

:wizard:When Rascal started to get sick, the called me IMMEDIATELY. They even took his temp when I got there to check on him. They are very ON POINT.

:wizard: Whatever I asked them to do (Like no collar on Rascal, no treats, etc) they did. Very compassionate to yours and your pets needs.

:wizard: At first I DIDNT LIKE the fact that there weren't any "doggie doors" (the kind they can go out themselves) but after I thought about it and talked it over with staff, its A GREAT THING! That is FLORIDA, and with all the snakes, and swampy nasty critters, they can crawl in that outdoor patio on the VIP suites, and they would INJURE (or worse) a dog who was UNSUPERVISED. So good thinking on BFPC!

Ok, the NOT SO GOOD. :scared1:

:headache: The webcam was NOT 24 hours. It would stop feeding about 6:00 pm. It was like a 5 or 7 minute delay as well. They said they were "working" on the 24 hour thing when we kept telling the staff about it.

:headache: Could NOT bring you own water. Florida water is gross IMO and I don't want my dogs getting sick off of it. They supplied DASANI for 5.00 PER DAY.

:headache: The AC was not quite cool enough in the whole facility. Maybe that was just a kink they had to work on. Hope so!

:headache: HATED the white paper collars they put on my dogs for ID. They take their existing collars off during their stay.

:headache: They HAVE GOT TO DO SOMETHING with the outdoor dog park! They need to have separate areas for BIG DOGS and SMALL DOGS. More on that in my SUMMARY.

:headache: The NEED to have a 24 HOUR ON CALL VET THERE! 'Nuff said!

:headache: They need some kind of shade in the outside dog park and walking trail. Florida sun is HOT!

:headache: They DO NOT need to give tours of the the VIP suite while dogs are in them, it disrupts the whole area and makes all the dogs bark!

SUMMARY

The ONE MAIN THING about the dog park I DONT LIKE is the fact that the dog park IS NOT separated into TWO different areas by a fence. We were alone with ours in the park late in the evening and I have a small 5 pound Yorkie, RASCAL and these other guests came in and unleashed their bigger dog. I was trying to round up my brood to leave when Immediately the big dog runs and chases after Rascal so bad, that Rascal ran around the WHOLE park trying to get away. I was trying to get my dog, and the other dog's owner was just standing there laughing. My DH scooped Rascal up and his was SHAKING, and his heart was just a racing! So we left the park. The next day I got a call from the staff saying Rascal had vomitted and was lethargic. Frantic, we left the Poly and went to see what was going on. Well, he wouldnt eat and was laying there and I KNEW my dog was sick. Well, they DONT have a on call vet there (like they said they did) and offered directions to the nearest ER vet. Well, after Leonor (Great staff member) and Stephanie (their sweet concierge) got him some Pro Plan wet food, he ate a tiny bit and we left to go pack. We were headed home a day early due to Rascal. (he has had some different health issues in the past and I DID NOT want to procrastinate to get him home to his regular vet). So after a 6 hour drive, we were home seeing his vet. Well, his vet told us he was suffering with MAJOR ANXIETY and asked us what happened. (We have boarded Rascal before and never had this anxiety issue). We told him about the dog issue. He said Rascal got scared so bad that it made his intestines go into overdrive! So after some meds and a couple of days of rest he got better. So thats why the DOG PARK is a big NEGATIVE for me. I just think they dont need to let BIG/SMALL dogs mingle like that.

And I really wish other dog owners would WATCH their dogs a bit better and not laugh and stand there when their BIG dog chases a TINY dog. Thats just irresponsible pet parenting!:sad2:

BFPC staff called us the next day and asked how Rascal was, they were so caring and nice and helpful. If it wasnt for Rascal getting sick, it would of been alot better, but the stay they did have was GREAT. :woohoo:

They would not let me take pics of the regular INDOOR suites, and Im not sure why. But I can TELL you that they are CLEAN, A/C, and VERY QUIET. Not at all like the old kennels. I was impressed.

The VIP suites are pricey, and alot have complained on other sites about the cost, but they are WELL WORTH the money. Plenty of room, clean, and the Pet Concierge's are super with them. They write down EVERYTHING so if you have a question about your dogs, they will know the answer!

Check in was a bit hectic, because they write down EVERYTHING you bring for your pet, like toys, blankets, beds, food, treats, etc. So make time for check in!

They let you bring in anything that will fit in a regular standard size washer. I took bedding, rugs, and toys. When I was touring the facility, I noticed many dogs with OUT bedding and it just broke my heart:guilty:. Please PET PARENTS, take at least a small pet blanket or pillow for your fur kid!

And if you dont want a certain thing like playgroup or treat, they will swap it for something like extra cuddle time or extra walk.

If anyone has any questions, please ask!

If anyone else has pics or experiences with BFPC, please post!

Thanks for starting this thread. We have a Pug and Shih Tzu we may need to board on our next Disney trip. I loved your review and pics too :goodvibes. The VIP suite looks great. Thanks for reviewing the good and bad, I appreciate knowing about the big dogs not being separated. That would scare my Daisy to death I'm sure. So sorry your dog got stressed so badly and you had to leave Poly early :sad2:. Hopefully they get the kinks worked out soon. Thanks again.

Sure! No problem!

I feel like if you are going to board your fur kids somewhere, the good and the bad need to be addressed. I would want to know everything before I take them anywhere, so thats why I started this thread. ;) I like to inform folks of what to expect. I didnt know what to expect at this new kennel, so I dont want anyone feeling like I did, PARANOID AND STRESSED before I boarded my babies!

If you have any questions if you need to board your pets, just ask away!

B,

Did they explain why they put on paper collars instead of leaving the regular collars on the dogs? My dogs have tags with all our emergency numbers on them just in case. I can't imagine leaving them somewhere.....especially out of state....without the tags.

I noticed you posted pictures of the dog and cat areas. Would they board a large macaw parrot? He's very tame and does well here at home with his canine brother and sister, buy would not do so well around strange dogs and he's never seen a cat in his life.:rotfl:
