Boo to me! - Solo Halloween PTR 10/22-29 - Link to TR posted!

Yum-o! All those food pics are making me really excited for the F&W Fest! I'm actually really looking forward to that South African BBQ!

I'm excited for it, too! :yay: I think the thing I'm looking forward to most is just the cheddar soup from Canada. I've never had it! I'm also really looking forward to trying the cheese fondue, but I couldn't find a picture of it :headache:

Those look like super fun days! I am getting so excited for my trip! I know what you mean about getting to say "next month..." i'm the same way! Thankfully mine is not "this month"!

I can't wait  I'm at 47 days and 3 hours until my plane leaves :lmao: I wish I could say I'm going this month, but I'll have to settle on waiting a few weeks :lmao: At least I'm leaving next month!:banana::cheer2:

So I'm still searching for pics from my 2004 CP. I did manage to find a bunch of pics from when my dad came down in 2009 just before I left Orlando, since I had to use my parents' computer to fix our wireless router once the stupid tech left after basically telling us that it wasn't the phone company's fault that our DSL wasn't working, even though once he switched the boxes, it worked perfectly fine. :badpc:

Anyway!

So in early January 2009, I lost my job at Disney. I'd been looking for other work for months, since my hours got cut because of the economy, but I couldn't find anything. I talked to my parents about it and decided to give it another two weeks and if I couldn't find anything, they'd buy me a plane ticket home and my dad would come down to give me two extra suitcases, since that was cheaper than driving or shipping. We've flown Southwest for years. That's what wound up happening (obviously), so the last weekend of January, my dad came down.

As we were staying at my apartment, he rented a car. Now, most people would rent a "normal" car. Not my dad. He was in the mindframe of "I'm going to Florida, it's going to be nice and sunny and warm..." Either that or the desk clerk successfully upsold him. Either way, he pulled up outside my apartment driving this:

And, naturally, as soon as he left the airport with the top down, it started to rain. Also, since he had a map from 1987, he got very lost and had to call me. I bought him a new atlas this year for his birthday. He didn't think it was funny.

When he finally got to my apartment, it had stopped raining, so he put the top back down. He unloaded his things into my apartment and said hi to my roommate and got a soda. As I started to pack some of my excess stuff in his extra suitcases (he packed lightly so he could just do a carry-on), we talked about what we were going to do over the weekend. He wanted to go to the parks, but I didn't have my maingate anymore and I didn't want to try and get a hold of anyone to ask them to get us in. We decided to go get some lunch and figure it out from there. We went to this awesome Chinese place by my apartment and decided to go to Downtown Disney and walk around.

So that's what we did. Of course, once we got there, it started to rain again. I don't remember what all we did, but I know we stopped in a bunch of the stores, and definitely World of Disney.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

After a while, we decided that we wanted to go and see some of the resorts. We left the car at Downtown Disney (with the top up) and took the Disney bus to a resort.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

Wilderness Lodge!

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

My dad's a carpenter, a hunter, and we own a cabin in the northwoods of Wisconsin, so I thought he'd like to see it. He LOVED it.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

A few years ago, we completely remodeled our basement. He installed an electric fireplace, so he absolutely loved the enormous fireplace in the lobby.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

He also likes trains.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

We explored the lobby and spent some time walking around the grounds. We found our way over to the pool and the beach and, at some point, found a forgotten poncho on the ground. It was one of the Disney ones. My dad decided to keep it. Somewhere after finding the poncho, we decided to go to another resort.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

We took the bus... somewhere? I don't know where, because the next picture I have is of my dad in the front of the monorail :confused3

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

Which, by the way, he also loved.

Apparently, we got off the monorail at MK and then walked down to the boat launch. I guess I was trying to show my dad all the various ways of transportation or something :confused3

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

It was full, so we had to wait for the next one.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

This time, we were heading for the Grand Floridian. When we got off the boat, he stopped on the dock, looked around, sniffed, and said, "I smell steak." I said, "Yeah, that's Narcoossee's" and pointed to it. He went over and looked at the menu, since we were both getting hungry, and then walked away once he saw the prices :lmao:

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

My dad loved the lobby here.

He also loves antiques, especially cars, so when we wandered out to the bus stop and saw these, he had to have pictures.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

After that, we took the bus back to Downtown Disney to grab the car and head home. We were both starving at this point, so we stopped at the McDonald's by my apartment and got dinner there.

2009 mini-TR continued!

Day 2!

The night before, I'd managed to get hold of my old (favorite long before this) manager and he agreed to maingate us into the park the next day. So we headed over to MK and waited by the boat launch for him to come meet us. It took a while, since he overslept, but we eventually got in. The first thing we went on was Space Mountain.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

My dad took a picture of the cameras. After Space, we walked up to Toontown to catch the train.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

He loves trains, as I said.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

And I love this picture :)

At some point, we went on Small World because he wanted to.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

Don't I just look thrilled?

We apparently also found our way to the Riverboat.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

We didn't eat here. I guess my dad just liked the sign.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

Apparently, we went on Pirates, but I don't have any pictures of it.

recentpicsofdisneyandfaz.jpg

My dad met some crazy people, and then we went on Jungle Cruise.

recentpicsofdisneyandfap.jpg

At some point, we wandered over to Cosmic to have lunch. I remember because we sat outside and I told my dad to keep an eye on the birds. A couple minutes later, a bird tried to steal his cheeseburger.

Anyway, we eventually found ourselves up in Town Square for the 3:00 parade :)

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

recentpicsofdisneyandfaq.jpg

After the parade, we went to Tomorrowland. I think we went on Space again, Carousel of Progress, and Buzz, but I know we went on Astro Orbiter.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

And then eventually went to the Tiki Room.

recentpicsofdisneyandfa.jpg

That's the last of the pictures I have for that, but I know we spent the whole day there. We went on everything we wanted to, saw the shows and parades and fireworks, and eventually grabbed dinner at Casey's. I think we just ran out of batteries for our cameras or something :confused3

We went home after the fireworks (with me trying not to cry) and finished packing. The next day, we packed up the last of our stuff, packed everything in the car, and drove to the airport. We stopped at Sonic for lunch, since my dad had never eaten there and loves old-fashioned drive-in's. Then we flew back to Chicago :sad2:

Anyway, so that was the weekend I spent at WDW with my dad in January 2009! :lmao: Wasn't that fun?

Love your Epcot itinerary! I can't wait for the Food and Wine fest, everything looks SO good! :cool1:

I love the mini TR with you and your dad, looks like you guys had a great time! :) Love the rental car he chose! :rotfl:

Even though the reason for it is sad, it sounds like you and your dad had a great time! I wish I could convince my dad to come to WDW with us. He loves theme parks and thrill rides so I know he'd have fun (and the last and only time he was there was in 1980 after he and my mom got married!).

I think the only way I'm going to actually get him to go is if me and my BF get married down there. Then my dad won't have a choice! :rotfl2:

Your epcot plans look good. Can't believe you have never been on Soarin'! It is about time:goodvibes. Can't wait for food and wine. I agree that you just have to snack around the world.

The mini09 tr made me so sad. So bittersweet to spend a weekend with your dad and then get on a plane to move home. I'm sure it was nice to share disney with him.

The MNSSHP part of your itinerary made me really happy!! I'm SO excited!!

We have a lot of the same F&W foods on our list, too! I've never been to LC either, so I really want to try the soup!!!

That picture of your dad with the train and SM in the back is FANTASTIC!!!

Awww what a nice update about your weekend with your dad!! Too bad it couldn't be under happier circumstances, but at least he got to see MK with you!

I want to spend most of the day at the F&W and wandering the World Showcase.

I don't have pics of everything I want to try, as I couldn't find some on Google Images, but I have a good portion of them. I couldn't find the cannoli from Italy, the churro from Mexico, the dark chocolate sensation from the dessert booth, the waffles from Belgium, or the cheese fondue.

I think all those things are new for this year. I checked my pics from last year and we didn't get a churro in Mexico, if they had them we assuredly would have ordered it, Fran loves churros! We get them all the time in DL & DCA.

All the things you pictured are delicious, although I didn't care as much for the BBQ tenderloin, but the Fisherman's Pie and Chocolate Lava Cake...mmmmm

I know, I can't wait for F&W! That's one of the reasons we chose the first week of November for next year's trip :lmao: I really can't wait to go, though. I wish we were going at the same time so we could enjoy something together :lmao: Maybe next year!

We had a pretty good time, yeah. The car cracked me up, mostly because my dad is an eternal cheapskate. It still amazes me that he rented such an expensive car. I guess he figured it was just for the weekend or something. He loved driving it, though.

We did have a good time, but I got really sad toward the end of the day :lmao: It wound up being my dad who came down because my mom had visited around election day and he hadn't been down. My whole family likes theme parks, but I'm the Disney nut.

I'd love to get married at Disney :bride: I don't think that'll ever happen, but you never know :) I get what you mean, though :lmao: My dad wouldn't have a choice, either :stir:

Well, every time I went to Epcot after it opened, it was already late in the day, so the FPs were gone and the wait time was ridiculous. So I just never got around to it. I'll do it this time, though :teeth: I plan on snacking around the world, but just in case I'm hungry again late in the evening, I do have that stop at Casey's planned. If I don't use that credit, I can use it in the morning at Pop or something.

It was nice, yeah. Both my parents had come down to get me after my first CP, and we have some funny stories from that. My mom had just had foot surgery, so we were pushing her around in a wheelchair. At one point, we went on Rock N Roller Coaster. My dad and I are huge into music, and so he was pushing her and I was walking ahead. Then I went through the turnstile. Then he did. And my mom was sitting there in the chair going "What the heck?" My dad forgot her! :lmao: But yeah, it was nice, but sad.

:lmao: Wait until I post the update for the third party :teeth: I found some more pictures! I'm really excited about it, too :) I can't wait to get down there!

I'm really kind of picky, but I'm trying to expand my palate a little on this trip. Baby steps :tiptoe: I wonder if they have the pretzel bread at the booth, but if they don't, I can always run back to Germany and get a pretzel. I like pretzels and cheese :teeth:

I really like that picture. Originally, I just got one of him with SM, but then I heard the train coming and was like "Wait a minute". It looks better in a larger size, but it's still nice in the small size.

Awww what a nice update about your weekend with your dad!! Too bad it couldn't be under happier circumstances, but at least he got to see MK with you!

Now he just has to see DAK :lmao: After my first CP, my parents came down and we hit both DHS and Epcot in a day. We had a good weekend, but I do wish it had just been a visit on his part. Such is life, though, right? I'm trying to give myself pixie dust or something :lmao:

I know the waffles from Belgium are new, and I want to say the fondue is as well. I actually only recently tried a churro, and was surprised by how good it was. My best friend and I were at Six Flags and she got one and let me try it. It was filled with chocolate, though, so that may have made a difference :lmao:

I know, I've heard all about that from you :teeth: Your recommendation is the reason the fisherman's pie is on my list!

I love your Day 4 II. Nice to know what I'll be doing on this day with you :teeth:

And it definitely is bittersweet reading about your Dad and you 09 trip. Love the car and it's nice that your dad came all that way to take you home :sad1:.

:lmao: If you notice, I only have a few things listed that I want to do :teeth: If there's something you want to do that I don't want to, I'll wait for you at the exit :)

Well, it was either going to be him or my mom, since one of them wanted to come down and get me instead of me either paying extra baggage fees or leaving half of my stuff in Orlando. But yeah, it was nice that he came down :)

Ahhh! I've missed so many good updates, I'm sorry! I am loving your illustrated itinerary (the food pics had me drooling! :lovestruc) and the mini-TR is great!! :goodvibes

Hey, it happens :) I'm just glad you're still reading :rotfl2: I like doing the illustrated itinerary. It's fun :) It can be annoying trying to find some of the pics, but I usually find what I'm looking for :) The mini-TR was nice, once I finally found the pictures on my dad's computer.

So guess how many days I have left today?

175pxanswertolife.png

If you don't get it, click here and read. :)

I'm three days late on my final payment, but I can make the payment today. I was going to do it online, as my paycheck is already in my bank account (yay direct deposit), but it wouldn't let me, so I'll just wait until the office opens and then call them and do it over the phone.

So onward to Day 5 of my illustrated itinerary!

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

I might sleep in this day, but I'm not sure. Probably not. I'm also not sure if PrincessInOz will be joining me for the morning of this day, but that's up to her :) Either way, I'm going to spend the morning here...

hollywood-studios-picture-002.jpg

The first thing I want to do is go here and either get a FP or go on it, depending on the wait time:

toy-story-midway-mania-picture-014.jpg

I love this ride, it's so much fun :)

After that, the only things I really have on the list are as follows:

rockin-roller-coaster-picture-003.jpg

I did some fiddling on the reservations website a couple weeks ago and managed to get an earlier time for my lunch here:

Sci-Fi_Dine-In_3.jpg

So I'll be heading there for lunch at 11:45. I wanted an earlier time because I was worried that, with my previous 1:10 reservation, I wouldn't be hungry by dinnertime. This is one of the only two TS restaurants I've ever eaten at at WDW. The other one was Crystal Palace :lmao:

I'm hoping to be finished with the five rides I want to go on after lunch :lmao: I'm skipping the shows this time around, and won't be trying to see Fantasmic, as every night it shows is a MNSSHP night. But once I'm done with those rides, I'm going to hop on the bus and head here:

n1217320362_30090070_2427.jpg

I really don't have a plan. Anything I haven't gotten to, I'll do, and I'll probably wind up going on rides I've already been on, like Haunted Mansion. At 4, I'll get my wristband for that night's MNSSHP. Around 5, I'm going to head over here to meet PrincessInOz and LuvChefMic for dinner before MNSSHP:

libertytreetavern.jpg

And by the time we're done with dinner, it'll almost be time for this!

dsc08018.jpg

Not sure what the plan is for the party, so I won't post too much about that. But we'll enjoy it :teeth:

After the party, I'll head back to Pop to go to bed :cloud9:
