"I DO...want dessert" Our 10-Day DxDP Honeymoon-FINAL POST

We have to find one more place to eat and use up a credit. CP is now under consideration.

I couldn't agree more with your CP breakfast summary!:goodvibes:
Empty Main Street, great food, beautiful sunny atmosphere.. what's not to love?
And when we were finished ours we made our way to the Fantasy Land rope drop and rode everything with little or no wait for over an hour. It was an awesome day!

Do it! Do it! Do it! Well...unless you can do a lunch or dinner somewhere else instead. Hmmm. The possibilities are endless!

After Space Mountain, we too headed over to Fantasyland. We rode Peter Pan and Snow White with no wait. That wasn't until about 9:20 or so, so we were really surprised.
Oooh I really want to get an 8.05 ADR for our next trip :goodvibes
Really, anything before 8:30 would be good for us. As long as you don't take too long or don't HAVE to see all the characters. Just make sure it's not an EMH morning. ;)

So, we kinda screwed up again...no pictures. :confused3

I think we were so hot, exhausted, and tired of the crowds that we just didn't think about it.

I was excited about The Plaza because I had heard such good things. I thought it was a hidden gem that we had stumbled upon. To start, we were a little surprised at how tiny the place is. We were seated practically WITH another family (more info below).

For appetizers, we both got the side salad with ranch dressing. It was...a side salad. Nothing special.

I got the Plaza Club with fries. It was very yummy and HUGE. I really enjoyed it.

DH got the cheesesteak with no onions or mushrooms (the veggie thing again). In fact, I was surprised that he got the hot peppers. The cheese steak was not too good, and we aren't picky people. First of all, the roll was way too big for the amount of meat. I took a few bites and I think all I got was bread. Also, there were a TON of red peppers. I like any kind of peppers, but this was just too much. DH didn't like it at all. Luckily, the servings were so big that he ate some of my club (and there was still some left!)

We decided to get dessert to go. I got a mint chocolate chip milkshake and DH got a cookies and cream milkshake. They were both good milkshakes.

Would we go back? Nope. Was is terrible? Nope. I think it was just so-so food and we would've been happier at Pecos Bill's or even just using some snack credits.

One of the things I remember about this lunch is that we had a screaming infant right beside us (and I mean their table was about 15 inches away, if that). I know it's D-World, and I love kids and all, but if your baby is continuously screaming for more than 5-7 minutes, maybe you should step outside until things calm down. I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for this, and I know my time is quickly approaching to have my own screaming kid, but seriously. :guilty: A screaming baby almost instantly raises everyone's blood pressure. I felt bad for the parents, but I also felt bad for us. We couldn't get out of there fast enough (hence, the desserts to go).

Next up: Flying Fish dinner

Congratulations on your marriage! We are now convinced next trip we are doing a HBD F! package and we are very excited about it!

No flames from me about the screaming kid. Don't hold everyone else in the restaurant hostage to your kid's screaming, WDW or anywhere else...get the heck out!!! I've been there myself and have been forced to evacuate many a restaurant. It's inconvenient and annoying for the parent to have to leave, but any other choice is just rude. Sorry you were subjected to that.

BTW, loving your reviews!

Sorry to hear about the screaming a baby. I do agree though that the parents should have been considerate of those around them. People sometimes fail to remember that there are others there trying to eat.

Just signing on here, sorry I'm late to the party!

You've already been to one of our faves, JIKO and Flying Fish is our favorite of the signature restaurants so I can't wait to read your upcoming review!

Y'all make a very beautiful couple!!

First, i can barely remember to take pictures of the kids. Can't imagine trying to remember to snap pics of food.

Second, since you are newly wed and kids maybe in the future, remember and learn from these situations. You will be there someday. the reality of eating with kids is to PLAN so that they are in the best situation. GET REST, EAT EARLY, BRING THINGS TO DO. And guess what, even with all that, with all the planning, there will still be an occasional meltdown and someone must leave with the kid. Maybe most important is at home, treat dinner like you would if you were out. Training at home goes a long long way. Also, from the word go, take the kids to restaurants, they will earn proper behavior. OH, ONe more thing, LET THEM EAT SOMETHING GOOD!!!!

No flames here. :thumbsup2 It annoys me to no end when parents allow their kids to scream in restaurants, movies, church... Mine may have started to cry, but DH and I quickly removed them from the situation EVERY time. If we had to, we took turns eating while the other one walked outside with the baby. Sure it wasn't fun, but why should we let our screaming child ruin dinner for an innocent bystander?!?!?!?!? :flower3:

No flames here either.. I left many many meals when my kids were small and we were in restaurants. I did my time, and I expect others to do the same. It's just common courtesy.
I was actually a little disappointed that we cancelled our Plaza ADR.. but it sounds like it was just so so. There will always be another trip to try it.

Lamb is his all-time favorite meat, so he loved it! Since he is a meat and potatoes kinda guy, I don't think he was too enthralled with the cous cous. He probably would've preferred the mac n cheese or mashed potatoes as a side, but that's just him.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned his yet, but on your next trip - you can request mashed potatoes instead of the cous cous at any of the WDW restaurants. :)

Enjoying your trip log! Jumping back in to page 4 to read more. :yay:

Noooooooo.. page 5 is the end of the line for right now. I feel like I was in the middle or reading a good book, and someone yanked it away from me!!! lol

Your post has to be the most exciting for me so far because of several of the ADR's you picked are exactly what we picked. Fantasmic! pkg at the Brown Derby, 8:05 breakfast at CP, and even our 1st lunch at MK (hoping we have a better outcome - and please - no screaming baby!).

We love crab cakes, also. It's nice to know that you live where crabcakes are king - how much you enjoyed the ones at BD.

Looking forward to your next post - I am a subscriber and will be looking for my e-mail notification. :surfweb:

I think sometimes people are trying so hard to enjoy THEMSELVES, that they tend to forget about others.

Welcome! Jiko rocked! Thanks for the compliment, also. I'm so in love. :lovestruc

Joining...Im enjoying! popcorn::

Thanks for all the advice. Between travelling and being a preschool teacher, my list of "dos" and "don't dos" gets longer every day. :) I just hope I remember everyting when the time comes.

Agree totally. The thing that got us was there were 4 adults and 2 kids at the table. Couldn't they have taken turns? :confused3 Hopefully they went back to their hotel for a nap.

Like I say, The Plaza wasn't horrible. I just wouldn't waste my time on it again. Even taking the monorail over to one of the monorail resorts would be better IMHO.

You're so right. I don't know why we didn't think of that. I've learned that when looking at the menu, he only looks at what's in bold (the meat) the ignores all the other writing. (Typical male, probably! :rotfl2:) Later into our trip, I got wise to this and tried to help him out. Thanks for the tip, though!:goodvibes

 I'm glad you're enjoying it! I was addicted to the boards before we left on our trip, and the dining reports were my favorite. Although they take a while to write, I feel like I am returning the favor. :goodvibes They really helped us choose which restaurants to visit and what to order from each. Stay tuned and enjoy!

One of our reasons for trying all these different restaurants was so that we could visit resorts that we would (probably) never be fortunate enough to actually stay at. One of the resorts DH would LOVE to stay at is Boardwalk. Originally, I was not as enthralled with it as he was because: we LIVE at the boardwalk. We have 3 different boardwalks within a 15 mile radius of our house, so why would I shell out a ton of money to stay at...A BOARDWALK?! Well, after visiting I now know that it is a Disney version of a boardwalk...none of the trash, freaks, thugs, pooping seagulls, etc. that you find on our boardwalks. Also, there is: cotton candy in bags (no one actually spinning the cotton candy themselves), no waves crashing on the sand, no smell of french fries and vinnegar... As you can tell, I'm torn. It was a fake boardwalk, but almost too fake for those of us who live at the beach. Would I stay there? Heck yeah! It's beautiful. Is it a true replica of a boardwalk? Maybe so since they are going back a few decades. Also, sometimes a utopian version of something is a good, refreshing change. After all, isn't that why we all visit disney?

Onto Flying Fish...We were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant, which was fine with us. The open kitchen was so cool to watch. Our server welcomed us very warmly and they had made personalized menus for our honeymoon. That was cool. The server really pushed the wine and we caved. Can't remember what we got, but it was yummy.

For an appetizer, I got the wild Gulf shrimp cocktail.
Honeymoon202.jpg

Yum, yum! This was so delicious. The red grapefruit added a sweet and tangy flavor (and I don't even like grapefruit) that made this spectacular. I could've eaten 5 more.

DH got the Jonah crab cake.
Honeymoon203.jpg

He then declared THIS the best crabcake he ever had. It was crab, not filler, and the coating was absolutely delicious.

My entree was the potato-wrapped snapper with leek fondue.
Honeymoon204.jpg

I gotta be honest, after the first bite I was really questioning my selection. It was a completely new taste to me. Then after bite 3, I was sold. This was really different and really tasty. Don't be fooled by the potato part. There are no visable or tastable potatoes. I was expecting it to be coated in hash browns or something, but the potatoes are so fine you don't even know that's what they are. The leek fondue was totally weird, but really good. Would I get it again? Probably not, but only because I would want to try something new.

DH got the surf and surf.
Honeymoon205.jpg

I don't know what type of fish it was, but it also had shrimp (it's not on the menu right now). He loved it. It could be because the dish was basically meat plus meat, but stilll. He could barely spare a bite for me to taste. What I tasted was good. However, the flavors of his dish completely clashed with the flavors of mine, so I stuck with my halibut.

For dessert, I got the sinful flourless chocolate cake.
Honeymoon206.jpg

Let me tell you, sinful is the appropriate word. This was so rich and chocolately, I couldn't stop eating it. Truly delicious if you like chocolate.

DH got the berry tart.
Honeymoon207.jpg

I LOVE blueberries, and this was delicious. However, it didn't hold a stick to my chocolate dish. Go with the chocolate!!:thumbsup2

All in all, this was a great experience. The atmosphere was hectic and loud, the food was good, and the service was pretty attentive. We have noticed that (as a party of 2), once a large group comes in and has the same server, we are basically put on the back burner. Now, I've done plenty of restaurant work in my day, so I totally understand. They will provide a much larger gratuity, so I get it. Even though I get it, it doesn't make the 2-top feel any better to be left in the dust. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves seafood and who wants to check out Boardwalk. BTW, we walked from Epcot, so that was very convenient and very cool!

Next up: Sci-Fi Lunch

You're right, if we wanted the real thing we'd go to the real place, not Disney's version of it! I can definitely get behind any boardwalk where I can eat outside and not be dive bombed by seagulls the entire time!

So glad you reviewed FF, we're eating there one night next month. Everything sounds delicious, and I know that between DH and I, one of us will be ordering that chocolate cake!

We love crab cakes - so it was nice to hear it was especially good at FF. The picture of your flourless cake didn't come up - instead was two pictures of the berry desert. We hadn't considered the FF as one of our ADR's - but may add it to the list after reading your review. Thanks again! :flower3:

Sorry to everyone about the picture problems. I was rushing to get it done before going to work (bad idea:confused:). I think everything is corrected now.

I have got to order that crabcake on December 18th!
Order the crabcake! It was spectacular. The coleslaw was a great accompaniment, too!

I'm sure you will love FF, as we did. Any way you can mail me back a piece of the cake? :lmao:

It was a fun night. Hope you like it if you decide to give it a try. BTW- That was the flourless cake. The berry dessert didn't come up! :rotfl: I think it's fixed now, though!:goodvibes
