I know it was stupid to look at the prices for my Sept flight again but it's kinda hard when they send you an e-mail alert.

Oh well anyone here ever get an Orbitz price assurance check? My flight from MEM to MCO just went down $180! Anyone planning on going from Memphis to Orlando Sept 9 to 18th please book through Orbitz. :lmao:

:rotfl: You're funny, telling people to book the same flights. :) But at least it shows that you know what the Price Assurance does!

But to answer your question, no, I haven't receive a PA check (though I sure would like to have that hovercraft show up, ha ha ha)...guess no one books the same flights I do!

I don't think Orbitz does that on flights. I though it was only for hotels.

I disagree. I booked flights through Orbitz and on "my trips" page I can click to see if I qualified for a refund, Presently it says you have the lowest price-bummer!

what airline are you flying on? Unless its Southwest or JetBlue I wasn't aware that they were offering the price assurance..??

A poster previously asked what would happen if someone booked the same flight on Orbitz but then made a courtesy cancellation within 24 hours. I don't think there was a definitive answer if Orbitz always allows a courtesy cancellation or if the temporary booking would be enough to trigger the price match refund.

Do the research and decide. Another Orbitz customer has to book the exact same flights (both directions) for the guarantee to apply.

Orbitz is trying to give customers a reason to use them. If another Orbitz customer books the exact itinerary at a lower price Orbitz will refund the difference. The chances of them having to actually pay any customers is near zero.

Sorry, couldn't find the poster that asked this (well, I was just a little lazy) so I was using your post to answer..

Even though Orbitz, expedia, travelocity doesn't charge a fee to cancel a flight, I would think you would still be subject to the airline fees.

I'm afraid I agree with this. I booked early with Orbitz not really relying on the price assurance but I can't say it didn't enter my thinking. Next time I'll just wait till 30 days out. I've always gotten the better deal (albeit had to be less choosy on flight times) that way before but just got to anxious.

Many airlines will give you a full (credit card) refund, even on a non-refundable ticket, if you call customer service within 24 hours (maybe less with some carriers).

hmmm.. I've only heard of Southwest & Delta giving you 24hours.

Orbitz has a few different programs:

Orbitz Low Fare Promise

If you book an airline ticket on Orbitz.com and then find a lower airfare for the same flights, dates, airline and travelers on another Web site, you may be entitled to a $50 coupon per ticket toward your next Orbitz booking.

Orbitz Low Price Guarantee

Look for our hotel and car rates backed by our Low Price Guarantee. We're so confident they're the lowest online, we're willing to put money on it.

and

Orbitz Price Assurance

Once your booking is confirmed on Orbitz, we start tracking to see if another Orbitz customer subsequently books the same flight or hotel reservation on Orbitz at a lower price.

If that happens, we'll issue a refund for the difference. Amounts range from $5 to $250 per airline ticket or $5 to $500 per hotel room.

I do believe that most of them, if not all, allow it. I know that Alaska does b/c I just booked with them and, as usual, read through all the "fine" print and clickable links as I booked.

It must be only Southwest & Delta because when I booked a fight with Jetblue and realized I had to cancel about 4 hours later they refused. Big pain in the...

Yeah, SW you can cancel up to 24hrs to get full refund back. After that you get future flight credit.

YES.

Believe it or not.

I thought there was absolutely no chance, because on Orbitz I had booked a one way MCO-IAD flight. Not too many people book one way flights.

But I did notice that the price of the flight went down $20. I had purchased 5tickets. I got an email before we left saying another customer had purchased this flight for less than what we paid. Sure enough, a couple of weeks after we returned, we got a check in the mail for $100 from Orbitz.

They do say that you don't receive the check until after travel is complete.

The problems with third party travel agents and domestic flights outweighs the slim chance of price drop on my flights to ever "buy into" the Orbitz bit.
