Using DME with late evening arrival

looseends

Thanks to all the people posting on this board, I know that Disney's Magical Express won't pick up your luggage for you if your flight arrives after 10 pm. And I also know that when you use DME your luggage may arrive at your resort hours after you do.

But what would happen for a flight that arrives at 9 pm? Would the luggage not show up until after midnight (i.e., hours after you get to the resort)? Or is it more likely that it would arrive at the resort shortly after 10, because the luggage handlers at the airport will get it onto a bus before they punch out at 10 pm?

Thanks in advance for your help!

A lot depends on the resort you are at. POP, for instance, doesn't automatically take the DME delivered luggage to guest rooms. They do it every few hours or so. So, it is going to take awhile.
You have a good point about the workers going off the clock so the bags should go out well before 10. But, it takes awhile to get the bags sorted and onto the trucks, then the trucks have to head to the various resorts....and then it's up to Luggage Assistence/Bell Services to get the bags to you. It still could be close to midnight when you get your bags.

I stayed at ASM two years ago and the luggage from our evening flight did not arrive at our room until 1am. We learned to pack a carry on with essentials from that point forward.

Wow 1 AM! That wouldn't go over too well with DW & kids

Thanks for the responses. We'll probably end up picking up our luggage ourselves, just to be on the safe side. We may even end up getting a rental car, partly due to our late arriving flight, but also to facilitate getting around Disney property. I've read a lot of comments here and on other sites that while the buses usually do a good job getting people from resorts to the parks and back, it's not quite as easy to get from resort to resort, which we're expecting to need to do for dining purposes.

Thanks again!

You could also pack only what you need for that night in your carry on and ask that when your luggage is delivered, that it be held until the next morning. You can then call luggage services in the morning and ask them to deliver it then.

That's what I would do. I mean, you really should pack everything you need for the first 24 hours in your carry on anyway, so the only extra effort required is making 2 phone calls. Easy Peasy.

We arrived to Caribbean Beach after 11pm and just had our jammies in our carryon luggage. We asked the desk to hold our luggage when it came, and deliver to us at 8:00 am....and that is just what they did. Worked out great!

I agree with this. When we're arriving at night, this is what we do. If it's 7-ish or so when we get to the resort, we wait and see if the luggage arrives by the time we're ready for bed. If it's not, we call Bell Services, tell them we have DME luggage on the way, and to please hold it for the morning. We also put the "Privacy Please" card in the key holder. We'll call in the morning when we're ready to head out to breakfast to ask them to deliver it, and by the time we get back, it's usually there.
