Seeing other than Disney in Japan?

What! See something other than TDL and TDS? Heathen!

Well, I'm planning a trip next year primarily to see TDR, but would also like to see and do other things. Due to work and school schedules we may have as little as one week, or as much as two. What else should we see and do? We'll spend no less than 3 days at TDR.

that is a very loaded question...honestly when I visited last year, I only had about 1.5 days outside of TDR to spend...

I saw Odaiba Island, (Sega Joypolis, Toyota Megaweb and some of the shops), Tokyo Tower, The Imperial Palace, Akihabara and some temples.

But Tokyo is FULL of things to see and do, I felt very bad about spending most of my time only at TDR however it had been my dream for so long and I knew I'd get back to spend a real vacation in Tokyo someday.

Where to even begin? I would say pick up a tour book for some ideas.

If you're going for only a week, and spending 3 days at TDR, I would explore Tokyo and its surrounding cities (Kamakura, maybe Yokohama). A lot to do.

If you're staying in Japan for two weeks, I would say venture out to Kyoto and spend some time there as well.

I totally agree. We spent a week in the Tokyo area, and still didn't do all we wanted to. We spent an additional week exploring other cities, but it really felt like we were just brushing the surface.

Tokyo has a lot to offer - can you give us an idea of what types of activities you are interested in? Are you a foodie? Shopper? Like museums? Computer nerd? (I like nerds, so I mean that in a good way.) Do you like cheesy pop-culture things (like me), or are you more into the culture, nature, etc?
