An Aussie's Journey. Our final meal before coming home (food porn)....the last post!

Love the Mickey bag you picked up - so cute!

I don't guess I've ever seen any reviews of the food at B&C, just the ice cream. If I ever get over there I'll have to remember to just get dessert :thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear about your shopping trip!!!

Curious what did DH think of the vegetarian burger? I like them but haven't tried it there, it looks good in the picture...love the perseverance of DS to get that project done..tell him AK is my favorite park so I enjoyed seeing what the kids do...still amazed at all you did :worship:

Everyone remarks about my bag whenever I use it. I need to get into action and string some words together for my next update!

DH didn't think much of the vegie burger. It may be different with a different chef in the kitchen. The food was overcooked; but the salad was fresh.

Great bag! I bought a similar one myself on our trip.

Can you believe in our 8 days at the BC, we did not get to Beaches and Cream once??!!! My MIL did though, and she said her burger was awful. So in retrospect, I am glad we didn't order any food there. Being on the Deluxe Dining Plan, we were also always too full to order ice cream. Next trip for sure I will stop in for dessert!;)

Looking forward to hearing about your shopping trip and your birthday evening!:goodvibes

Thanks Trish. Are you enjoying your bag?

You didn't miss much at Beaches and Cream. The icecream sundaes looked great and I'm now sorry that I didn't sample one. Next trip :rotfl:.

I think you’ve gathered by now that (aside from food) I love to travel and I love to shop! And I have managed to find a way of combining both the shopping and the traveling in a way that the airlines can’t rely on me for any extra baggage revenue.

This is my Printer’s Tray.

Remember a time when we used to have printing presses? Well, every printer would have trays and trays like this one. Each tray would hold complete individual characters of A to Z, and punctuation marks, for the different font types. The compartments are of different sizes depending on how popular a letter was.

0703HobbyJuly02.jpg

I’ve had my tray for more years than I would like to admit and I’ve never yet come back from a trip without something to add to it. I have items from North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia; and because the item has to be small, I invariably don’t end up spending too much money nor needing a lot of bag space to bring it back.

In my last trip to WDW, I acquired these items for my tray.

USA2010shopping009.jpg

This item is particularly near and dear to DH. We had previously traveled to Norway and he saw a troll that he wanted to get. As we were backpacking at that time and we didn’t have a lot of cash to spare, I nixed the idea and spent the next 15 years kicking myself. I’m not sure who was happier when we acquired this piece…me or DH!

This was another item that I acquired 5 years ago. The beer stein complements the Bavarian bear already on the tray and shows landmarks of Berlin. As we have been to Berlin, it also made the sales register last time.

USA2010shopping008.jpg

So, we already had Norway and Germany covered and did not need to purchase anything for the tray.

I didn’t acquire anything in Canada. I tried hard to get something but the only things that were small enough to fit were animal woodcarvings. I already have this moose on the tray; so I didn’t see any point in doubling up.

0703MooseJuly02.jpg

I picked this one up in England. I’ve been wearing it a fair bit back home and at this stage, I don’t think the Celtic cross will make it to the tray. I might have to consider getting something else next time I’m at the World.

USA2010shopping075.jpg

These French acquisitions will never make it to the tray. But DH will enjoy wearing them. I already have a miniature Eiffel Tower on the tray; so I’m covered for the real France.

USA2010shopping088.jpg

There was nothing small enough to fit on the tray in Morocco. I’m still hoping for a miniature magic carpet.

We picked up Bakugan for DS in Japan. He won’t let me put any of it on the tray.
I may have to resort to drastic measures one of these days. Perhaps a skiing trip to Japan might be in order….

I got these Mickey earrings somewhere in Epcot. I’m not entirely sure where – but they have made it to the tray. I’m going to call these American.

USA2010shopping074.jpg

Should I ever find the matching necklace, I already have a substitute for its space. Well, this item already has its own corner and I picked this one up at the Outpost.

USA2010shopping010.jpg

I didn’t see a small enough item in Italy in the price range that I was prepared to spend. We already have Venetian masks and Murano glass on the tray that were priced significantly less than the items at the World. There must be a huge hidden extra for shipping costs somewhere! And for those eagle-eyed amongst you, there is a miniature replica of David on the tray. Feel free to take a look.
So I got this book instead. I think it will come in handy for me to communicate better with my Italian SIL’s extended family.

USA2010shopping015.jpg

I skipped buying the things Made in China. We already have far too many of those on our tray.

Despite already having something from Norway, I did end up picking something up that has a Norway flavour. There was a glass blower craftsman that had a stand along the lake and I got an autographed copy for my Christmas tree. I think he was Norwegian.

USA2010shopping081-1.jpg

I wanted to buy some more silver in Mexico; but as I had already picked up two silver items this trip, I held off. Anyway, we already have a Mexican gentleman in a sombrero having a nap on the tray. Next trip!

These DHS beauties are also going to go on the tray. I particularly like the one with the Hat!

USA2010shopping089-1.jpg

For a momento of all 4 parks, I got these pins. I’m not sure if I’m going to put them up on the tray as it already has a pin from 5 years ago with all the 4 park emblems on it.

USA2010shopping090.jpg

DH also decided that he wanted to get this bear when we were at AK. I was dubious about the bag real estate he was going to take up at the time; but now that we’ve gotten him home, I’m glad that DH put his foot down.

USA2010shopping101.jpg

Off-topic. These items from Miami Beach and the Everglades are also on the tray. I like the colourful mosaic look on the Miami Beach piece.

USA2010shopping012.jpg

And I promised cdotla that I would post a picture of my Pandora bracelet for her to have a look. I will continue to add items to the bracelet and have a target of about 3 - 4 charms per year (preferably of the gold variety). At this rate, it will only take me about 5 years to completely fill it!

For the Aussies following this thread, here are some Dinosaurs that we picked up from Build A Bear and T-Rex. We bought these unstuffed and got them filled in a BAB shop in Melbourne. I could have made tons of money that day if I was of the mind to sell them. I practically had to beat off at least 6 other mums who eyed these cuddly friends as we were filling them up.

This one is for me. Her name is Dolly.

USA2010shopping100.jpg

This one is for DH. His name is Diego (I wonder where DH got the idea from!)

USA2010shopping099.jpg

These two are for DS - Spiny and Velly.

USA2010shopping096.jpg

USA2010shopping095.jpg

Oh – one other thing for the Aussies. If you do get them unstuffed, make sure you get the Birth Certificates in the US. I’m thankful that DS insisted that we named them in America. The dino range is not available in Australia (yet) and as such you cannot scan the barcode to get the correct eye and fur colour on the birth certificates.

Been a bit AWOL lately but loving the latest posts!!!!
I do appreciate the lack of R+C food porn....however...the dole whip was unnecessary!

Anyway,
The bag!!! Awesome! I love the fossil one too :)

Love the knick knacks too!!

I'm in awe at the amazing day you had doing all 4 parks.
It doesn't compute with me being unable to watch Fantasmic? I mean seriously???

Anyway....LOVE the photos and can't wait for the ending...with a bang I assume.... ;)

My stepmom has one of those trays hanging on her wall. She got it when she and my dad lived in Germany, it's full of fun little things from all of their travels as well. I just collect spoons, not quite as interesting

Welcome back! Yes, finishes with a bang ....

I got my tray from my Mother In Law, who also collects. She eyes my collection...and I eye hers! Spoons are interesting too. I have at least one or two spoons and I want to find a spoon cabinet...someday.

My parents have collected spoons during their travels and continued during all our travels growing up. We have a few spoon cabinets :thumbsup2
It isn't really around much any more as a souvenir so we have pretty much stopped collecting.

Your DS love Guitar Hero huh? Haha I wonder how many pictures you have of him playing it!

I love your collection!!!

Oh man the Chinese Theater looks awesome at night time!!!!

I'm glad you enjoy Fantasmic. We loved it. We have so much fun during waiting for the show to start. Haha! I'll have to tell the story in my TR.

Thanks so much for posting your bracelet...it is beautiful! And giving me ideas.

Love the souvenirs. I will have to post mine as well. As I mentioned, we ended up with a very similar bag!;)

Glad you were able to take home some nice reminders of the World. And you are very lucky to do it without any shipping or excess baggage fees!;)

We spent a bit of time just taking it easy today.

USA2010Holiday782.jpg

Afterall, it was time to celebrate my birthday!

P5140237.jpg

In my plans for this trip, I had decided that I wanted to do an Illuminations cruise for my birthday. I had been lucky – when I called to enquire about the cruise 3 months prior to our trip, there were still pontoons available for this night. I’d checked with the extended family and after much discussion, I was given the go-ahead to book for this activity. And I was looking forward to seeing Illuminations from a different angle.

We got to the Pier and waited to find out which pontoon we were going on and to meet our captain.

USA2010Holiday784.jpg

Turned out that Disney had thrown in some extras for the night.

USA2010Holiday783.jpg

I certainly hadn’t ordered the extra decorations and it was a really nice touch.

We headed out towards DHS first and I got a turn at driving….

USA2010Holiday794.jpg

You'll note that I'm wearing a glow stick necklace. Thanks again to the DisBoard, I had found and stopped off at Michael's in Miami. I got 5 packets of 10 glowsticks each for the whopping price of $5!

I also found some light chasers at Michaels with Buzz Lightyear for the boys, and Tinkerbell for my niece. The lightchasers were about $5 each. The kids were all delighted to get them.

We took more pictures on the pontoon but they all involve the extended family; so I won’t be posting any of those.

Then it was time to head back and tie up under the Epcot Chunnel. We got the spot normally reserved for Breathless. Our captain, Todd, normally skippers the Breathless and I almost felt sorry for him having to captain a pontoon.

We broke out the crisps/chips and soft drink. And DH had been very sneaky. He managed to sneak away to order a birthday cake from the Disney.
DS got a vanilla cake with vanilla cream, white chocolate icing with berries.

USA2010Holiday809.jpg

I know that there is some chatter on the boards about the quality of Disney cakes. I have no complaints about this cake. It was delicious and moist.

And then it was time for the fireworks show.
We didn’t have a tripod and so the fireworks shots didn’t come out as I hoped. But here are some of our selection from this night.

USA2010Holiday819b.jpg

USA2010Holiday821b.jpg

USA2010Holiday832b.jpg

The only thing wrong with our position was the smoke factor.

USA2010Holiday833b.jpg

All that smoke from the fireworks had to drift somewhere…..our way!

USA2010Holiday837.jpg

All in all, it was a pretty good way to finish off our trip at WDW.

[Up next – Woo Hoo! Photopass CD arrived!]

What a beautiful way to spend your birthday! That cake looks wonderful how special what DH did :goodvibes My family has had many cakes for birthdays at WDW and I have to agree with you, they were always delish ! Can't wait to see photopass pics !

Wow!!! You really know how to do things with style :)
Love the first pic of DS...
Cake looks AWESOME!!!

Wow! what a great way to spend your day though! That's awesome and I love the cake! Yum!

Oh my gosh, that cake looks so good! How thoughtful of your DH to order that for you, mine would NEVER think to do something like that at Disney.

We did a Wishes cruise in December and loved it, reading about the problem people had with the smoke on the Illuminations cruise is what pushed me over the edge in deciding to do the Wishes one instead.
