Inspired by the popular thread "What psychology of mk do you know about?"

I thought it would be neat to list hidden facts/etc. about the other parks as well, although there may not be as many as Magic Kingdom.

So - post away! Hopefully this can be as popular as the other thread.

EPCOT

there are hidden speakers throughout the park playing noises of large birds, this is to keep other birds from nesting in the park.

In the top of spaceship earth you can find a trap door which was used for a comercial for epcot in which mickey mouse stands on top.

The test tracks road on the outside is built to resist 200mph winds

HS

Fantasmic uses very strong hydrolic lifts to shoot mickey out of the top at the end. Also, the Maleficent dragon uses coffee creamer to create a breathing fire.

Sorry I can't think of anything at AK

Notice as you are walking these parks how they each have different attractions. These are designed to make people want to attend the park and stay on property longer. Not many people know this.

There are concentric circles between the big fountain and the LAND pavillion...
This was supposed to be the CENTER and Spaceship earth was supposed to be there!

They had to move the WHOLE park layout a few hundred feet because they discovered an endangered species breeding. It was the redcocked woodpecker and this little guy even got a street named because of him (service road to epcot...)

Really?? That's so bizarre!!!:rotfl: How does that work???

This is a cool thread, can't wait to see what other fun facts come out.

Epcot:

1. if you notice water does not run off of spaceship earth when it rains, that's because they built a drainage system within the grooves that runs off the sides into the lake.

2. in the world showcase there is actually room for 11 more countries!

3. the big fountain behind space ship earth is called the fountain of nations (i had no idea lol) and it contains water from all different bodies of water around the world, rivers, lakes and oceans.

Animal Kingdom:

1. all the benches are made from recycled milk jugs

2. you will occasionally notice some mythical creatures like a unicorn for example, in the parking lot one section is the unicorn, this is because disney originally had planned for a sort of "lost kingdom" with mythical creatures but decided to switch to dinosaurs.

3. only one of the animal carvings on the tree of life was given a name, that was by JANE GOODALL who was invited to consult during the construction of animal kingdom, she noticed there wasn't a chimp on the tree and got them to add a chimp, who she named David Greybeard. there is also a plaque next to the carving to honor her.

4. in the parking lot you might notice an extremely tall tree (not the tree of life lol), this is apparently some sort of telephone pole or something of that nature made to blend in with the design

:yay:

oh and one more in animal kingdom, the idea behind this park is for you the tourist to take your time in going through the park, they wanted you to slow down and enjoy nature. this is why there are ALOT of animals you won't see if your running around trying to make sure u get on everything and see everything. This is why when you are entering the park, after the turnstiles, you are walking into the "oasis" which is that little section uphill - which slows you down a bit right from the beginning, again this is their way of saying slow down.

also, animal kingdom has ALOT of cultures going on, but you will not see any religious icons or such, like near EE, there are tons of prayer flags everywhere that in the normal culture would have specific icons of their religion, etc, but disney has put on them generic images so they dont offend anyone

Epcot:
The way Future World is laid out is supposed to represent your brain - they grouped each of the pavilions to coincide with that half of your brain - sorry can't remember which side is supposed to be left and which one right - my brain isn't working today - but notice that Imagination, the Land and the Seas are grouped together as the more creative side, and the Energy, Wonders of Life, Space, Motion are all the scientific side!

PP just wanted to add to your post. Its the left side of the brain that does the filing and intellectual things, and the right side of the brain that handles creativity and imagination.

did you know that none of the buildings at any park or resort is painted white so visitors don't suffer from glare.

Right is creative, left is logical.

Here's a few from my DBF, a former HS CM (then MGM):

Why do CMs point with 2 fingers? He was taught it was because some cultures find a single finger point to be offensive.

Ever wonder why you rarely, if ever, get bit by bugs in an area that should otherwise be swarming with them? They spray pesticides (he wasn't sure if they're chemical or organic) when guests aren't around, animals that feed off insects and no standing water for mosquitoes to breed in.

All trash is supposed to be downwind. For example, when you enter HS, trash is on the left.

They string metal wires up in large, open areas to act as lightning rods.

Every CM entrance into the parks has a giant mirror reminding CMs to check their appearance before they leave. There are also guides dictating how long hair should be, how mustaches should look, etc...

Disney itself washes CM laundry to cut down on lazy CMs who forget to wash their clothes, which would otherwise result in smelly, wrinkled CM uniforms.

AK purposely has hilly walkways and lack of A/C to simulate being in the wilderness.

If a CM receives questionable money, they're supposed to make note of the person's appearance (particularly shoes) and radio it in thereby avoiding causing a scene.
