Updating details on ESTA question

I have read previously that if making another trip to the U.S on your approved ESTA, that you should update your new details. I did this with all the fields that they asked of me, but I did not see anything about arrival dates. Is that correct? So they only want to know departure city & flight carrier & flight number?

Yes, from what I recall, I think that that is correct. Mind you, it's been about 9 months since I updated the ESTA for my husband. This last trip, we all got new passports so we had to get new ESTA numbers issued.

They only last 2 years don't they? If you update them before they expire do they last another 2 years?

They either last 2 or 3 years or until 6 months before your passport expiry date.
Updating your travel details will not change the expiry date. Once the ESTA expires or if you get a new passport, you will need to request/obtain a new ESTA number.

My mum got in 'trouble' at immigration...she got a new passport but forgot to get a new ESTA number. They detained her for about an hour before someone in Australia confirmed that the ESTA was linked to the old passport.

Thats a bummer about your mum...
But Thanks for that!!
Sadly we don't have any tickers  but I will have to remind the parental units of this as they just got new passports.
It's about time too as the one my dad got wet on splash mountain was really starting to look suspect :lmao:

This reminds me..... I have to update ours. I may have to just start again as I can't remember any our ESTA numbers

They last 2 or 3 years or to the passport expiry date. It used to be you needed more than 6 months on your passport to travel to USA but that's no longer required now that ESTA are in. (I got an ESTA in Oct09 for a trip in Nov09 on a passport that expired in Feb10, the ESTA expired in Feb10)

I just went to update ours (found our numbers) but it says that updating the info on your current ESTA isn't compulsory. So maybe I won't bother as ours are still current and we haven't got new passports.

I wonder though what address you put in there when you are staying at multiple locations? Do you put the first hotel or the one where you will be spending most of your time?

I put down my first hotel. Don't know if that's the right thing to do or not...

I do the same and always put down my first hotel.

Also didn't really read the instructions so did not relaise they last a few years. I have re-applied every time I travelled just to be sure and have had no problems getting in and out.
