Going solo - a positive experience!

I don't often post here  as I'd been concentrating on the adult/solo board in the lead up to my May trip (just returned) but wanted to post a quick review for anyone who is thinking about possibly going solo.

It was a choice of going solo or not at all for me (friends/family no longer interested) so I went solo, and loved it!

I'll admit I was apprehensive before I left, what with 'horror stories' of solos being given extra questions, etc., at immigration, flying (I hate it!) and then of course the ash cloud, I really did start to wonder if I was doing the right thing, but the moment that plane landed and I was through immigration in under 2 minutes (no-one in line and no extra questions) the excitement returned as I realised this was it, I was in Orlando :dance3:

I ate a mix of meals with friends (who I'd met through the Dis before) and solo, not once did I feel uncomfortable, wait staff were friendly and chatty, I was given great tables everywhere. Waiting in line for rides people would talk to me (i.e. they made the first move, not me), I had people offer to take my photo, it really was great.

The best thing was doing what I wanted, if I wanted to just spend an hour in DTD then return to the resort I did, I went to MK my first morning for the opening ceremony, rode 3 rides (including it's a small world a few times in a row lol, in my own private boat!) then back over to Epcot for lunch, perfect.

I really can't say enough about my solo trip, it was the best trip I've ever taken and am planning my next one for December 2011. :cool1:

If anyone has any questions ask away :goodvibes

Sounds fab, Happy planning for your next adventure. :goodvibes

:cool1:good for you hun, thats a very brave thing to do:yay:I think disney is such a friendly place, we all go with that one wish- to have a good time, glad you did just that:thumbsup2

Firstly I am so pleased you had a great holiday :thumbsup2

When in the past I have read solo trip reports mixed thoughts have gone through mind. I could never understand why someone would want to go to Disney of all places on their own. Not having anyone to share experiences with etc etc.

However the more I have thought about this recently, I'm starting to realise that you Solo trip guys are obviously extremely comfortable with your own company and probably the nicest of people been able to strike up conversations with total strangers.

I am Mum of 4, DS8, DS7, DS4 and DD3 and already I am growing quite anxious about how things will be once they have all "fled the nest". Hopefully by this time I will be like yourself and eagerly awaiting time on my own :rolleyes1

Good for you :thumbsup2 and I hope you enjoy planning your next trip :)

sounds like you had a great time, after reading some great reviews its got me thinking about doing a solo holiday-not sure i could get away with doing WDW my son and husband would be too jealous. :rotfl2:

thanks for posting!!!
i'm leaving on my first solo trip to the mouse in less than a month!!!

i'm actually going for a conference, but decided to arrive 9 days early so that i can enjoy mickey and company at my own pace...

i've been a bit apprehensive about it - wondering what it would be like not having anyone to 'share' it with...
but on the other hand, the idea of being able to do exactly what i want when i want has a lot of appeal too..

i'm planning on going on at least one backstage tour - hopefully...
i haven't booked any yet, so hopefully they'll be available when i get there...

anyway...
i'm looking forward to the trip even more after reading your post! :)

I really hope you have a good time like I did - I'm already pricing up next year's trip lol

Glad you enjoyed your solo trip! I did a solo trip in 2006 and had a great time! Travelling to the World on your own is so safe and to be able to do what you want to do when you want to do it is fantastic!:thumbsup2
However we bought in to DVC just after my solo trip and I have had no shortage of people wanting to come with me since then. DD came with me last year and hubby is accompanying me on my next trip to celebrate my 50th in January. Then my brother wants to come with me on the next trip - I can't see a solo trip coming up for a while, mores the pity! :sad2:

Hi Clare,
Glad to see that you made it back safely. Nice to meet you at the DisMeet at SAB and I'm not surprised that you're already planning your next vacay :):).
Perhaps you'll think about coming down under for the one after that. We don't have a Disney in Oz...but there are other attractions.

It was a great evening wasn't it :) I'm such a poor flyer I really don't think, unfortunately, I'd last the flight to Oz :(

It sounds like a fantastic trip! I have lost count of how many times I've tried to do a solo trip and I always end up taking someone lol. One day I will do it for sure!

HELLO! :goodvibes

Just wanted to say that hubby and I enjoyed chatting with you at Flying Fish - glad to hear that you made it back through ash......

Did you happen to move over to the Grand later in your trip - we thought we saw you there also in passing while we were walking to the bus stop?

I'm doing my best to curb my "need" to book another trip back already:laughing:

Hello you too - good to 'see' you :goodvibes

I stayed at the BWI CL my whole trip, it was so wonderful but I did vist the Grand too, I had a manicure at the spa followed by lunch at the GF Cafe, absolute bliss.

I've given into my 'need' to book another trip and have already, for December 2011 :rolleyes1

It was good to meet you and your DH at FF, such a great evening - after you guys had left I met another couple and let's just say I was in there a long time lol
