Hi all! What brand and type of dog food do you feed your dog? Right now my dog is on Nuetro herring and potato (for a sensitive stomach). I would like to find something alot cheaper than 45.00 a bag for a month. Any ideas on coupons for the brand I am using now or another brand for sensitive stomach.

We buy Nature's Recipe Fish and Potato which has really helped my Great Pyrenees' stomach. Molly got to where the IAMS that she had been eating caused her terrible diarrhea (or at least that seems to be the culprit- it stopped happening when we switched her food two years ago). I think we pay about $37/bag at Petsmart which isn't much cheaper.....

We use Purina One for Sensitive Stomachs. We have a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, and they have been known to have sensitive tummies. The breeder recommended that we feed her Canidae (really awesome brand), which we did until the store that sold it closed. Because Canidae can be a difficult brand to find, and the breeder being aware of this, she recommended the Purina brand. When we made the switch, we had no problems, and she has been eating it just so for two years now. Good luck finding the food for your dog; it can be really frustrating trying brand after brand.

Here's my tip -
Buy a Costco membership. It is only $50 a year, and the Kirkland brand dog food is amazing. No corn or fillers, meat is 1st ingredient. Goes for about $20 per 40 lb bag.
That's what my Toby eats!

i buy a variety. we have used canidae (until they changed their recipe). if you do the canidae try to buy the no grain. it is better for the dog. i have also used wellness and fromm. all of these are great foods but, they aren't inexpensive. the benefits that your dog gets from a better food is hands down a better way to go.

if you go to www.bichonfriseusa.com and look about half way down, under canine nutrition, you will see a link to Whole Dog Journals best dog foods. i like using this when purchasing dog food, it helps take the guess work out of what is a good food.

good luck.

We do Natural Balance sweet potato and fish (dog allergic to everything from human, sheep, and cat skin cells on up to grass), but it's really expensive too.

We use Wellness, my labs don't do well with grain. It isn't cheap, but she hasn't had any ear infections since we switched.

Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison - we pay $55 for a 28 pound bag. But our 70 pound lab eats less than 3 cups a day - it is highly digestible and good for his allergies.

Our boxers ate Canidae until they changed the formula - I don't know what they did to it, but it made my guys so sick!!

We now use "Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul" - another brand with no fillers. My guys love it (they also love it when we accidentally buy the wrong bag and they get to eat the super fatty puppy food!! :lmao:).

Costco's Kirkland brand is very good quality; it's about $21 for 40 pounds or so. I found it to be comparable to Canidae and CA Natural so it'd be a little higher quality than what you are currently feeding. They have a Lamb and Rice we've fed that is good for sensitive tummies, along with a Chicken and Rice.

Costco is also starting to sell a grain free salmon based food called Nature's Domain that is excellent. I have switched to that and it's $28 for about 40 pounds. It's comparable to Wellness CORE or something similar (which are very pricey!).

We more than pay for our Costco membership just in dog food savings.

We feed our Bichon Blue. Its not cheap I think a 5# bag cost $18.00 but he is small (only weighs 8 pounds) and only eats 1/2 cup a day~at the most!!!

You could try Blue Buffalo- Fish and Sweet Potato. My family switched to Blue Buffalo a few years back after our family dog was poisoned by that tainted dog food scandal....we were feeding our dog what we thought was a great dog food. One of the BIG Name Brands...turns out the food was Crap pushed on vets by the pet food industry. :headache:

Now we only feed our pets natural/holistic food...So far Blue has been great!

My 2 Beagles ate Canidae until they changed the formula a little over a year ago.

Now they eat "Taste of the Wild Wetland Formula". They do wonderful on it!

As soon as Canidae changed the formula, it didn't agree with my dogs anymore.

Edited to add : A 30 pound bag costs $46 after tax at the local feed store. My dogs only eat 1 cup each per day (1/3 cup 3x/day).

Hi! I also swithched my dogs from Iams thinking it was a good brand but it really has a lot of fillers. My girls now eat "Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul". My lab does not shake her head anymore from ear infections:banana:

We started our dog on Blue Buffalo about 2-3 weeks ago. She doesn't particularly like it. I may also buy the Costco brand. The cats eat Costco catfood.

My Newf puppy eats the Costco brand-I have to watch the calcium/phosphorus ratio, and very few large breed puppy foods are intended for giant breeds-and there are no giant breed puppy foods that I can find.

Our breeder recommended the Costco brand-like someone else said it has no fillers. She also gets veggies like shredded carrots, grean beans and romaine lettuce, as well as apples and strawberries.

I buy Orijen for my dog, but it isn't cheap. I read through the website that someone listed when we first got our dog and made the decision to go with the Orijen from the time we brought him home. He loves it and actually doesn't really care for any other type of food - including people food! He was on the regular flavor for a long time and just recently I found the all red meat flavor and he has been eating that for a couple of months. It was hard to find for a while because it is from Canada and not many stores were selling it. I ordered it online up until last month when I finally found it at a local pet shop for the same price. I really feel like the price is worth it for him because he is energetic, healthy and has a shiny coat.
