Lava cakes at Cape May?

Just when I think Cape May's dessert selection couldn't get any better with the oreo bon-bons on the menu, I keep seeing mention of the addition of individual-sized chocolate lava cakes at Cape May. One person had a picture in a review - but that's about all I've seen, and I haven't heard much description.

So what's the lowdown? Are they served warm at the table, are they on the dessert bar, served in their own pans, is it a runny chocolate in the middle or a thick fudge ganache...???

Help me out people!!!

I ate there 2 weeks ago, my entire dinner was all crab legs and then I went to the dessert area and there was one table with a small variety and then across from there was a chef and she asked if I would like a warm lava cake. When I said yes she opened the oven, took one out (they are small but ohhhh so rich) and put it on the plate and garnished it with something, maybe a drizzle of sauce, I don't recall. I do know it was delicious and don't think it was a runny middle, it was more like a ganache, I think. Like I said it was small but ohhhh so rich and delicious!

None of the desserts at this buffet appealed to me, and that was fine, I don't need dessert! However, I went to just look and got one of those delicious lava cakes, and I just loved it. Such chocolate, it was heavenly.

i guess im in the minority here but i didnt really enjoy the mini lava cake. it had a little too much "lava" and not enough cake for my liking. the filling was on the thick side, to answer your question. there is someone preparing the lava cakes for you behind the dessert counter and it is garnished individually as you request it.

We were just there last week and had the little lava cakes. One is plenty because they're so rich. Oh baby, they are delish!!! :)

Crab legs! Tiny fresh lava cakes!

We loved the food at CMC last year, and it didn't even have these items. Sounds like we'll be feasting there this August!

They were so good. The middle is like thick melted dark chocolate, and the portion is just right. There is a seperate dessert cart where you ask for these or get flan or cookies across from the other desserts! Enjoy:goodvibes

Pictures, we need pictures! Bobbi, how can you say you don't need dessert? Saying that is a foreign concept to me. For me, dessert is the highlight of the meal. I wanna eat with you all the time so I don't have to share my dessert-like I do with DH.

We've always like Cape May Buffet for both breakfast and dinner.

But now - crab legs and lava cakes - OMG! Sounds like the perfect match to me! Can't wait for July.

Hogwash!!! If they're as good as they sound and look, I'm sure I'll have two - the first to try and the 2nd to really hit home. Of course that will likely take me down to only 2 or 3 oreo bon bons (I think the most bon bons I've had at one sitting was 5 a few years ago).

Can you tell I like chocolate?

I'll be having them in August and then again in October!!!

The lava cake looks wonderful. When did they start serving them? They weren't there during our last trip June '09. We have an ADR for May 26 and I can't wait to try them!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing!
Carla

OK, call me a piggy, but is there ice cream somewhere on the dessert buffet that I can add to that lava cake?

I can't remember if there is any ice cream at the CMB but if there is - I'll be right there oinking with you! Lava cake and vanilla ice cream, a match made in heaven.

No, cape may does not have any ice cream. THey have berry cheesecakes, mini cupcakes, oreo bon bons, lime tarts?, cookies, brownies, lava cakes and flan is what I remember.

I think I can talk dh into sharing a lava cake with me next week. I will give a little report as to how it goes!!:)
