I need some advice from someone whose taken a 16 month old to Florida

Next year i will be taking a 16 month old to Disney. When you book flights does a 16 month old get their own seat? If not did you have to sit with them on your lap for the whole flight?

Did you also find it easy to find food for your baby?

Thanks

We took our DD at 15mths last September. We booked her a seat on the plane but she could have gone as a lap infant. Our DD would not have been happy on our laps!

Others take them until they have to buy them a seat on their laps.

If you don't book them their own seat they will be on your lap as at that age they are too big for the sky cots. Also they are only entitled to a baby meal which is stage one jars.

In Florida we had no trouble feeding DD she shared with us and we bought some kids meals.

DD is now 23 mths and has 3 trips under her belt already!

we are taking ours at 11 months and they will be on our laps but we have 6 adults going so we can share them

next year we will get them seats

A lot depends on the child. Under 2's are considered infants so they don't get their own seat, unless you opt to pay for one for them. I was fine with DD on my lap with VA, but by the time she was approaching 2 it just wasn't going to be a pleasant flight. I did most of my flights alone with her so that would be a partial factor.

Hi

Our DD was 8months old the 1st time she went and then again at 17months. She didnt have her own seat (as we decided not to book her one) and she was more than happy on our lap.:thumbsup2

I took a bag full of new toys/books etc that she hadnt seen before and gave her this once we were on board. Also took her lots of snacks etc to also pass the time away.

Once in the USA food isnt a problem, you will be spoilt for choice:banana:

DD was 22 months when she went on her first flight (Virgin).

I initially didn't book her a seat but did before we flew after so many people
said are you mad or words to that effect!

Glad she had a seat and we used her luggage allowance in full coming back. An infant doesn't get a luggage allowance but they did carry her buggy and car seat free.

Foodwise, my DD snacked alot - fruit, raisins, goldfish crackers, fruit puree in pots, cheese, yoghurt. We were in a villa which made things easier. I occasionally ordered her a meal eg pasta or a side dish eg toast if we were having breakfast. Sharing with adults is fine, they'll give you a spare plate.

All the usual chain type restaurants are very child friendly, highchairs, crayons etc.

Infants DO get a luggage allowance but you can only take either a buggy or a car seat without paying extra. I emailed VA to confirm this for my flight in Sept. This is the response i got -

"When paying 10% of the applicable adult fare, infants are allowed 1 bag weighing up to 23kg of free baggage allowance (regardless of class/route); plus one piece of hand luggage at 6kg; plus one checked or carry-on fully collapsible pushchair or infant car seat. You can either take a buggy or ca seat in addition to the checked in baggage allowance. If you wish to take both, one needs to be carried as a part of checked in baggage allowance. "

hi we took dd at 15 months on our laps and though it was fine, we decided to book her own seat when we went again she was 18 months then but we found it so much better than being on our laps tbh.
The food wasnt a problem on both trips like others have said about fruit and sharing food.
If you can id take the option of her having her own chair, just for the comfort, space and baggage allowence alone.

you get the same allowance if they have a seat or not, this years ours are on our laps yet we still have thier luggage allowance which is handy as they wont need 2x23kg for the two of them

Unless you decide to spoil them rotten! ;) That is quite generous - is it a new policy? Hmm, I have some shopping to do - wonder if anyone wants to lend a baby :rolleyes1

Took my DD on my knee at least 4 times and it was fine! Even now that she has a seat she still spends 90% of the time clambering all over me!

I paid for a seat once but honestly it was used as a changing bag/hand luggage seat :rotfl:

As for the food, we found everything we needed there, often we would order a side of veg or something and just give her a bit of our meat or pasta, it worked out fine. If you can get to a walmart then they have lots of toddler snacks that are handy for taking round the park and toddler juice also.

Yes that's great news about the infants and baggage allowance :goodvibes
Not quite sure how I'm going to cope with a 10 year old, a 1 year old and 3 suitcases! :confused3
