Anyway to get your child on adult menu on DDP?

Just wondering if there is anyway to get your 8 or 9 yr old, the ability to order food from the adult menu if you are on a DDP?????

The kid's menu's are FULL of very unhealthy crap, IMHO.

deep fried chicken nuggets and mac and cheese are not what we want our child eating.

So what can I do????

1) Lie about age?

2) Call and pay extra?

Love to hear your suggestions.

If you lie about their age, then you will have to pay for adult park tickets as well.

We planned a lot of buffet meals. Kids can eat off the adult buffet, so it made it much easier to feed them healthy foods.

There's usually a healthier option on the kid's TS menu, often some form of pasta dish and/or a grilled or broiled chicken or fish item.

That said, it's a vacation. They're going to be outside and walking a lot. Food allergies aside, a few chicken nuggets here and there aren't going to do them any harm if they're eating well the rest of the year.

My understanding is kids 10 and over eat off adult menu. Adult menu has MUCH better food choices in my opinion.

I am going to look at the cost of 10yr old wdw park passes....might be worth it.:hippie:

Like the first reply said they can have more choices at a buffet. Also the DP doesn't have difference for the counter services wether it's adult or child. Your balance only knows snacks, QS meals, adult TS and Child TS.

Also like the PP said it's a vacation are you going to let them have a vacation too? If you eat at a buffet and they want chicken nuggegs instead of the roast turkey, are you going to let them?

Checked it out.

It is $30 more for 5 nights to get a 10 yr old vs a 9 year old. What this means: the child can order ANYTHING off the adult menus, rather than the limited kids menus, which as I have said, in my opinion, are very limited and often have very poor food choices.

So, I am going to try to get the age bumped to 10+.

PS: We aren't doing any buffets.

It's probably not 30 more a day. You should check again. As one reply said. Not only do the kids need to be on the adult plan, they will need adult park tickets as well.

I agree with this. We had the concern as well as my DD5 likes to try different foods and my daughter would be happy with the nuggets although we wouldn't want her to have so many either. I did pick restaurants that I saw a helathier choice. I think each place has one, there just isn't a much of a variety. Restaurant Marakesh for example, offers mac and cheese and Moraccan style pasta. You just kind of have to hunt for it. It is one reason why we are not doing the Dining Plan. If free dining comes our way, we will figure it out, but we prefer not to have the nuggets all week if we can help it. I won't really agree with them since they don't eat a lot of that stuff at home and who wants to feel yucky at WDW?

Actually, depending on the length of ticket purchased, the difference between adult and child tickets can be as little as $30.

If not on free dining, one would also need to pay the difference between the child and adult dining plans.

Personally I'd suggest that this family not use a dining plan and order what they wish (if they're not on free dining).

I highly disagree. Since they stated using the dining plan they may still want the snacks and QS which is irrevelant if it is for adults or children.

If the child table service items are not satisfactory then only pay OOP for the children to have an adult item. If they are concerned about eating healthy they will be skipping deserts, soda, juices, and large plates. This will work out to 15-25 a day more per child depending on which meal and how much food.

example adult entrees 50's prime time cafe steak $21 stuffed pepper $12.50
Coral reef pan seared fish $27 blackened catfish $21
San Angel Inn Mahi $19 ConchinitaPibil $17

This is on Free Dining.

The cost is $30.00 TOTAL for the entire stay!

Well, worth it!!!!!!!:teacher:

I just priced mine, 6 nights at POP. One with 9 and 6 years old, one with two 10 year olds. Difference was $500.

It's not even the "low nutritious" food that I was concerned with. It was the fact that my kids don't eat mac n cheese and chicken nuggets. They eat normal food for dinner. They will eat Kraft MnC only and a certain brand of nuggets for lunch, but they wouldn't eat it every day and definitely wouldn't eat it for dinner. They've always eaten "real" food (they both at 9 and 6, and girls to boot, eat me under the table with a thick steak.)

Do what I did. I have all buffets or all-you-can-eat scheduled because the kids menu is crap. They can eat anything they want from the buffet. There is also "family style" like at Liberty Tree where they bring out plates of turkey, roast beef, etc for the whole table. The only place I scheduled that they would have to eat a kids meal is LeCellier because they have steak on the kids menu. Unfortunately, they will probably be eying up my steak because I doubt the kid's steak is very large, hehe.

Wow...$500 is a big difference. I am guessing you do not have free dining plan???????

Any way, it isn't the end of the world to have kids eat off kids menus....just not my favorite situation.:rolleyes1

I changed out DS to the adult plan yesterday. We had the regular free dining bounceback from last year and only needed to upgrade his park ticket to an adult. 14 nights for $35 more. :yay:

And if they were not on free dining and were paying for the dining plan, it might still be better for them to purchase what they want, even with the snacks and QS, especially if they did not do buffets and they want to skip desserts. The dining plan is not always a great deal in all circumstances for every party. According to Disney rules it is relevant if you have child credits for QS, you must order off the child's menu if there is one.

Yeah, I looked it up on the site and posted before I realized you were talking free dining.

Doesn't matter for me. Dining plan is I think $650 for us and we redid our package last night with a discount and it took $600 off my original booking. So, it's only an extra $50 with what discount I ended up with.
