HI, I just purchased my soon 2b 10 year so a refurbished 2nd gen. ipod touch - now looking to buy him a cover for it. which is the best u think - hard case? soft?

thanx

My son just got an itouch over the weekend. We went to 5 Below and got 2 cases for 5 bucks. They are the squishey kind. Also came with a screen cover and a little cleaning cloth.

(They were packaged as a black one and a color one - he wanted the black one and I took the color one for me....I am hoping for a 32GB for my bday!!)

Good Luck!

Great thank u...hope u get it

I just got a Speck Candyshell case for my new itouch yesterday based on friends recomendations. I really like it.

really trying to figure out i its better to get a hard case or the softer gel type ones?

I bought the hard one but it doesn't fit my IPOD. I also bought the soft ones and a workout arm band which I love! I bought them off ebay and have different colors. I am going with soft for my vote:thumbsup2

i'd 100% suggest getting pixel skin from speck products. every ipod i've ever owned i've put this durable rubber on and its worked like a charm. do not get a hard case! you want something that will absorb a fall, not add to it.

I have a Tinkerbell hard case that I bought on ebay for under $10. There are other characters. I like it because it's hard so if my son drops it, it's more protected. It also comes with a neck strap which I make my son wear when he uses it. The only problem I have with it is that it's not easy to put on/off and I have to take the case off to charge it on my clock/radio.

I like the soft cases from iSkin. We have had many of them over the years for all our varieties of iPods and iPhones and I really like them.

if you want super protection get an otter box, you can drop them on concreat from 6 feet (personal experience) and keep going... if it is too expensive for you or to "geeky, bulky for your son) (it about doubles the size of the ipod but SO WORTH IT has built in screan protector and full access to all ports yet has plugs to protect all ports.

if you need something hipper the next best thing is the switch easy rebel it is definately cooler looking but not the same level of protection as an otter box... my old ipod was in a sylicone type sleeve, fell about 2feet on some concreet and the screan cracked like a windshiled... that screan is glass you have to protect it! we have 3 ipods and 3 otterboxes... my 3 year old has an ipod and she has dropped that otterbox so many times and it just keeps on going!

SPECK candyshell cases are wonderful. They protect them really well... they are hard so if the ipod gets dropped you have really good protection. We have them on our iphones and my dd has one on her Touch.
Don't go with a cheap cover on the touch...they are expensive gadgets to replace if broken!

I will echo the Otterbox recommendation. I use mine in all sorts of nasty places and have drop kicked it across a concrete floor :scared1: more times than I can count. I cannot say enough good things about the Otterbox. It works! They are a bit expensive, but I bought mine on eBay to save some $$, but versus the cost of a whole new iPod it's money well spent.

We put the Invisible Shield on ours' and love it. We have a store that sells and applies it for you. You can do it on your own, but it's a pain. The downside is that you can't personalize your iPod with clear plastic like you could with a themed cover--like a Sports team or cool design.

I saw these at BestBuy, but they charge $8 to "install" it for you. Uh...no thanks. I bought a regular Otterbox case for now for $20 at Radio Shack, but I thought they Invisible Shields were cool. Do any stores put it on as a customer service courtesy?

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I have this for my iPod classic and have had it for 3+ years. My iPod is the same size, completely protected, and I don't have to remove a bulky or PITA case to charge it or play it on my FM transmitter in my car.

It's not THAT difficult to put it on. Just do it in a well lit area and be patient. Took me maybe 15 minutes tops to do it.

That's about how long it took the girl to put it on for me. I bought it at a store at the mall that just sells this particular brand.

I'd say $8.00 is a good price for someone else to do it; I paid a little more than that because I don't have the patience for it (PP is right about that) and I wanted to make sure it was done really well. Also, if I ever have a problem, they'll fix it. (It was part of my gift to my husband when his mom got him an iPhone for his birthday. He had covered our iPod Touches himself but was never happy with the job he did, so I let someone else cover the phone. He was really happy with the results.)

I don't know of anywhere that does it as a courtesy, but it is certainly worth asking about. And really, it isn't hard to do, just a lot of smoothing out the air bubbles. Also, the girl who put the one on the phone said it was really important not to put it in your pocket for about a day. I don't know why. :confused3 So, we just laid it flat overnight. Hope this helps.
