Found this on WDW updates/construction permits on another site:

Fort Wilderness – install calliope in draft horse barn; Pioneer Hall electrical work; Settlement Trading Post replace windows

Calliope as in a pipe organ? And is this the barn over by the Mickey's BBQ?

I kinda hope not. Those poor horses deserve a little bit of a break from all their hard work!

"The strongest Tri-Circle-D Ranch ties to Walt's life and interests are in the stables, where you can get to know the horses — by name — that make appearances in the Magic Kingdom, Disney's Wedding Pavilion and other locations. Walt's equestrian fondness is commemorated at a small museum where he and many horses of note can be seen in a display of archival photos.

Across from the display, depending on when you visit, you might even be able to see and hear the famous "Dragon Calliope." This calliope, discovered in disrepair, was included with the nine wagons Walt Disney purchased from the Bradley and Kaye Amusement Park for possible use at Disneyland. According to the article "The Disney Circus Wagons" by John Kenworthy in Paul Anderson's Persistence of Vision magazine, a new wagon was designed to resemble the others in the collection, at a cost of $50,000 in order to house the refurbished steam-powered musical instrument. "

Gonna have to conjecture that it will be for display purposes only and not played, Disney would have to pay someone for that!:rotfl2:
Although I bet it was restored to working condition. So my opinion, no horses will have their hearing hurt.:thumbsup2

I just saw the WDW Circus Calliope Trailer on the New Years Day Parade 2013. I had always wondered why WDW did not have a calliope. The one on the trailer appears to be a steam calliope converted to air as the operating system. My calliope is a 43 note air powered, via high volume fan, that inside my trailer is 138 measured decibles and I must wear ear protection. It can be heard over 1/2 mile, depending on building, etc. I have owned the calliope since 1997 and have done hundreds of parades and events in the Atlanta, GA area. I invite other calliope lovers to register with WDW and send me an email. Also, there is a world of information available at the Mechanical Music Digest website and you can join discussions about no only calliopes but any reproducing musical instruments including band organs and Merry-Go-Round organs.

I had to look up a calliope and found a SWEET one on an auction site- COOL!:cool1:
